“Bottled water is a drain on the environment: The U.S. public goes through about 50 billion water bottles a year, and most of those plastic containers are not recycled. Transporting the bottles and keeping them cold also burns fossil fuels, which give off greenhouse gases.”
1500 plastic bottles are consumed every second. Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times. And, it will take 1000 years for the plastic to degrade.
It can pose health threats
The plastic in bottled water often contains chemicals BPA and phthalates, which are proven to be hazardous to human health.
It's not proven to be any safer than tap water
The non-profit, non-partisan Environmental Working Group (EWG) says, “The government does not mandate that bottled water be any safer than tap water. In fact, the chemical pollution standards are nearly identical.” Historically, bottled waters have even been recalled for contamination with particulate matter, mold, and bacteria.
Further, as reported by ABC, environmental advocate, Mae Wu, has performed studies which show bottled water is no safer or cleaner: There is actually more testing federally mandated on tap water than bottled. 100 compounds of tap water must be tested every day and the results posted online.
It doesn't necessarily taste better
In this video by ABC, in a blind taste test, many even preferred the taste of tap water over bottled.
What is Enagic Kangen Water?
Kangen Water® (aka electrolyzed reduced water (ERW), or hydrogen water) begins as tap water. The Enagic® machine filters out chlorine and other impurities from the tap water, then separates the hydrogen and oxygen with a process known as electrolysis. This process adds an electron to the hydrogen creating a new molecule called diatomic molecular hydrogen gas. When this is added to your drinking water, it produces antioxidant-rich Kangen Water®.
Oxidant, by definition, is an oxidizing agent, while antioxidant is any substance that acts to slow or prevent the oxidation of another chemical. In a scientific study by the National Institute of Health, it was discovered:
“The consumption of hydrogen-rich water for 8 weeks resulted in a 39% increase (p<0.05) in antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and a 43% decrease (p< 0.05) in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in urine. Further, subjects demonstrated an 8% increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and a 13% decrease in total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol from baseline to 4 weeks.”
What does this mean?
According to this study, those who drank hydrogen-rich water showed a substantial increase in their antioxidant enzymes and a massive decrease in acid in their urine. Further, participants showed a significant increase in HDL, the “good cholesterol,” and a significant decrease in the “bad cholesterol.”

Dangers of Tap Water
Safe and readily available water is a basic human necessity in order to meet health and sanitation needs. However, tap water around the world has consistently been found to be subpar, “first-world” countries not excluded.
According to the WHO (World Health Organization) some pretty astonishing facts about drinking global water are:

The easy to use LCD display, plus the audio guidance, make this machine a treat to use! Electrolysis is the process that separates water into alkaline and acidic water. The pH level decides which water type that's being produced.

Strong Kangen Water // pH: 11.0 and up
Not suitable for drinking. Strong Kangen Water preserves hygiene in your daily life due to its strong cleaning effect. It has dissolving and heat conducting benefits.
Clean vegetables and fish. Can enhance the flavor of broccoli, onions, bamboo, etc. by pre-boiling them in Strong Kangen water.
Clean cutting boards and dishcloths. Good for cleaning oil and tough grime from vents, as well as for general cleaning in the kitchen.
The extra strength will remove coffee, soy sauce, and oil stains. Also great for getting out stubborn toilet bowl stains.
Use less detergent when washing your dishes. Save on water bills, as only one-third to one-fourth of the usual amount of water is adequate for rinsing off detergent.
Kangen Water® // pH: 8.5 – 9.5
Suitable for drinking. With a pH of 8.5-9.5, this type of water is perfect for drinking and healthy cooking. It works to restore your body to a more alkaline state, which optimizes overall health.
Drink 2-3 cups of water first thing in the morning. Compared to tap water, Kangen Water® has no unpleasant odor, tastes lighter, and has a pleasantly sweet flavor.
It is important to include vegetables in your diet when eating substantial amounts of acidic foods such as egg yolk, white rice, chicken, pork, and beef, drinking alkaline Kangen Water® is equally important because it balances the acidic and alkaline effects of these foods.
Use Kangen Water® to remove the harsh taste of onions, bamboo shoots, or the like. Leave liver and other meats which have a bad odor to soak in Kangen Water® for 20-30 minutes to reduce strong smells.
Use it for washing and cooking, the result is delicious and fluffy rice.

It's a good idea to use this water when taking medication.

Acidic Water // pH: 6.0 – 4.0
Not suitable for drinking. This slightly acidic water is recognized for its astringent effects. It's terrific to use for gentle cleaning and beauty care.

Use instead of rinse after shampooing. Reduces annoying tangles and brings out a radiant shine.

Strong Acidic Water // pH 2.7 and down
Not suitable for drinking. This water has disinfecting properties. Use strong acidic water to sanitize kitchen utensils, countertops, and more to keep areas safe and clean.

Cleaning and sanitizing
Sanitize knives, cutting boards, dish towels, kitchen cloths, etc. with this water. For a more powerful cleaning effect, clean with strong Kangen water before using strong acidic water. Because of the strong acidity, metal that rusts easily should be wiped with a dry cloth.
Use strong acidic water to wash hands, and clean and sanitize bathroom surfaces.
