Usana Health Sciences MLM Review – Another Dietary Supplement Scam?

If you have been here before, welcome back!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my Usana Health Sciences review!

One of the common questions I get asked often is if Usana a scam or not.

We’re going to take the next few minutes to take a look and get some answers.

The main concern I have for people who are researching this opportunity is that I don’t want them to get burned. In the profession of network marketing, anything could happen.

A company ends up shutting down in a few months due to bad business decisions for being non-compliant, compensation plan change, or the company not paying it’s distributors.

Even worst, your direct sponsor or upline leaves the company. Leaving you hanging to dry.

I understand that many of you are new. Sometimes we are not in a position to make a solid business assessment due to inexperience.

Additionally, I am going to offer you a way for you to escape the ‘9 to 5’ if you decide that this company is not for you.

More information about this program will be at the end of this post.

You landed on this blog because you are thinking about joining Usana Health Sciences because someone approached you about it or you just want to try out their products.

Unlike all the other Usana reviews on the internet, this is completely third party unbiased.  I have no relationship with this company what so ever so when you read this blog post all the way through and pay attention, I can assure you that I am not going to ask you to join or buy.

By the time you have read this unbiased review, you will be able to decide if Usana is a fit or not. I do not promote, nor I am affiliated with Usana.  I stand neutral in the current development of the Usana business.

With that said, let’s dive in!

What is Usana Health Sciences?

Usana is an MLM company that sells nutritional, food and energy, and skincare products. The company stock is traded on Nasdaq. They are similar to Herbalife.

The word “USANA” came from Greek and Latin words meaning “True Health” – EU means “true,” and SANA means “health.”

The products are manufactured at the West Valley City facility and sold in twenty different global markets. Usana associates sell the products through an MLM distribution network. Usana is the 20th largest MLM company in the world. They provide several products and sponsorships to various athletic organizations.

The company is similar to ARIIX, Xyngular, and Essante Organics.

The company’s athletic partnerships include the WTA tour, where $1 is donated towards a charitable organization every time a point is scored. Also, Usana has a notable agreement with United Concerts towards a concert and music naming rights agreement.

How do you get paid with Usana?

This is one of the most important elements of this USANA review. It provides important information to help you to determine if there is a USANA scam or USANA pyramid scheme.

The following figures are from 2016 for the United States:

  • $0: 58.01 percent of independent distributors
  • $1 to $500: 26.17 percent of independent distributors
  • $501 to $2,000: 9.34 percent of independent distributors
  • $2,001 to $5,000: 3.30 percent of independent distributors
  • $5,001 to $20,000: 2.23 percent of independent distributors
  • $20,001 to $50,000: 0.55 percent of independent distributors
  • $50,001 to $100,000: 0.21 percent of independent distributors
  • $100,001 to $200,000: 0.12 percent of independent distributors
  • $200,001 to $1 million: 0.08 percent of independent distributors

These figures show the percentage of distributors who earned specific amounts of money during 2016. It shows that the majority of distributors made nothing. Of those who did have earnings, the majority earned less than $500 for the year 2016.

You can read all of these figures here.

USANA states that in 2016 in the United States, there were 42,549 active independent distributors. The website further states that most people join the company to get the products at a discount and not to earn compensation or build a sales organization.

The USANA website offers an example of potential profits per product. They use the USANA CellSentials in their example. They state:

  • $58.25 is their suggested retail price
  • $52.95 is their preferred price
  • $47.65 is their auto order price

They state that the potential profit for this specific product is $10.60. They say that this is after the independent distributor passes along the tax and shipping fees to the consumer.

The above example is based on an 18 percent profit. USANA recommends that independent distributors mark up their products by 10 percent when they sell them to consumers. So, this would theoretically provide a 10 percent profit if the consumer pays shipping and taxes.

The 18 percent profit is based on the independent distributor paying the auto-ship price. Should they not use this option, the profits would be less. These numbers are based on a single bottle of USANA CellSentials.

The Usana Health Sciences compensation plan

The USANA Compensation Plan document states that independent distributors are paid weekly. They state that there are 6 ways to get paid:

  • Retail sales
  • Lifetime matching bonus
  • Leadership bonus
  • Weekly commissions
  • Incentives
  • Elite bonus

Compensation is based on a point system. Once someone gets to a predetermined number, they are eligible for payment. If they do not meet this number for the week, the points roll over into the next week.

It states that to be eligible for compensation, independent distributors must buy at least a 100-minimum volume of products every four weeks. In US dollars, this is the equivalent of approximately $110 to $130 every four weeks.

If an independent distributor does not meet the minimum purchase requirements, they can lose points that they have earned if these points have not yet paid out. This equals a loss in compensation.

How do you join Usana?

There are 2 ways you can be a part of USANA, as a Preferred Customer or as an Associate.

USANA Preferred Customer

A preferred customer allows you to purchase USANA’s products at a 10% discount. It’s kind of like your own wholesale account.

If you set your purchase as “Auto Order”, you can get an additional 10% discount. So you’ll get a total of 20% off for each purchase, that USANA 20% off is the cheapest possible price.

USANA auto-order means that you’re purchasing the products every month and for your convenience, they’ll process the purchase automatically for you. Bonus is that you can push back the dates at any time so you don’t “have to” purchase every month.

USANA Associate

A USANA Associate allows you to do the following:

  • Purchase USANA products at the cheapest possible discounted price
  • Sell USANA products and make retail profits
  • Help Others to become USANA Associates (your downline) and earn a commission from their sales and consumption.

How do you join Usana?

To become an Associate, you’ll need to buy a welcome kit for $29.95. No product purchase is required.

This fee covers the cost of the welcome kit that the company provides to independent distributors. This does not include products. Only business information. To earn money on sales, you have to actually purchase the products first and then sell them.

The investment made into the products varies greatly. Ultimately, it depends on the products you buy and the overall quantity.

What are the pros and cons of Usana Health Sciences?

Let’s start with the pros:

  • Low start-up costs
  • Products are being promoted by brand ambassadors
  • Usana is available in 24 countries
  • 24 years in business

Here are the cons:

  • The products are expensive
  • Only vague information about the science behind the products
  • Low earning potential
  • To be eligible for commission payments, a monthly product purchase of at least $100 is required

My Final Thoughts

Before you decide to join Usana Health Sciences. I would recommend that you try out the products first. See if it’s a fit for what you’re looking for.

If you don’t believe in the products that you are selling, chances are others wouldn’t. Makes sense, right?

If you’ve decided that you want to join Usana, you must have the following if you want to succeed:

  • A support team and system that will help build your business.
  • A mentor that will take you by the hand and help you reach your dreams and goals.
  • A constant flow of new leads and prospects that want to join your business.

It is not easy to be successful in the Usana business and which is why more than 95% fail.

If you feel the person you are going to sign up with is not going to be able to give you the necessary tools to help you succeed…
