Shaklee Review – Another Wellness MLM Weight Loss Supplement Scam?

You are doing research on Shaklee because someone approached you about it and you want to know if this company is legit or a scam. That’s what we’re about to find out.

If you have been here before, welcome back!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my Shaklee review!

One of the common questions I get asked often is if Shaklee is a scam or not.

We’re going to take the next few minutes to take a look and get some answers.

The main concern I have for people who are researching this opportunity is that I don’t want them to get burned. In the profession of network marketing, anything could happen.

A company ends up shutting down in a few months due to bad business decisions for being non-compliant, compensation plan change, or the company not paying it’s distributors.

Even worst, your direct sponsor or upline leaves the company. Leaving you hanging to dry.

I understand that many of you are new. Sometimes we are not in a position to make a solid business assessment due to inexperience.

Additionally, I am going to offer you a way for you to escape the ‘9 to 5’ if you decide that this company is not for you.

More information about this program will be at the end of this post.

You landed on this blog because you are thinking about joining Shaklee because someone approached you about it or you just want to try out their products.

Unlike all the other Shaklee reviews on the internet, this is completely third party unbiased. I have no relationship with this company what so ever so when you read this blog post all the way through and pay attention, I can assure you that I am not going to ask you to join or buy.

By the time you have read this unbiased review, you will be able to decide if Shaklee is a fit or not. I do not promote, nor I am affiliated with Shaklee. I stand neutral in the current development of the Shaklee business.

With that said, let’s dive in!

What is Shaklee?

Shaklee is an MLM company that was started by Forrest Clell Shaklee in 1956. He founded the Shaklee Corporation with his sons. Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee is credited with creating the first vitamin in the United States.

The company focuses on over 200 nutritional and skincare products, dietary supplements, multivitamin-mineral supplements, and home care products. The company is similar to Amway, Melaleuca, Herbalife, and Forever Living.

Forrest Clell Shaklee

The current CEO of Shaklee is Roger Barnett. He began his career at the investment banking firm Lazard Freres & Co. He then organized an investment group to acquire control of Arcade, Inc., which he transformed into the largest sampling company in the world, expanding from a solely U.S. operation into a global business. He was also the founder and Chairman and CEO of Beauty.com, which continues to be one of the leading internet retailers in the cosmetics industry.

Over the past 60+ years, they’ve expanded to 7 other countries including:

  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • Mexico
  • Taiwan
  • China
  • Indonesia

Shaklee started with nutrition and weight-management products. Now, it has expanded to beauty and home products as well.

In total, there are more than 200 products being sold by this company. It ranges from nutritional supplements, vitamins, protein to anti-aging solutions to shakes & bars for losing weight, to household, kitchen, and laundry products.

What does Shaklee sell?

Shaklee has been around since 1956 and their product line has grown over the years. They started with just wellness products but have grown to over 200+ products now.

Here are the different categories of goods they offer:

Nutrition

There’s a ton of different nutrition products including supplements for aging, bone, and joints, eyes, energy, sleep, women’s health and more.

The products are pretty pricey, however.

Weight Loss

There are various weight loss products as well including weight loss kits, shakes, meals, snacks, teas and more.

Beauty

Beauty is also popular in the MLM world and Shaklee offers beauty products as well. Some include anti-aging, hydrating and products for your eyes, skin and more.

Sports

They also have health products for sports and athletes which include performance packs, products for hydration, recovery and more.

Green Home

Shaklee also sells products for cleaning that are all-natural.

Shaklee seems to get pretty good reviews but their products are pricey and you are in a crowded market – it’s going to be hard to gain traction because of this and make money.

The Shaklee compensation plan

There are 3 ways for you to make money with Shaklee:

  1. Acquire customers and sell Shaklee products to earn retail commission
  2. Recruit members as your downline (You make money wither when their downline purchases any products or purchase the GOLD Ambassador Membership)
  3. Earn various BONUSES by advancing in ranks or helping your downlines to advance in ranks

Please check out their compensation plan PDF.

How to join Shaklee

But the only difference is that Shaklee has 4 different levels of membership. And the amount of money you can earn depends on which membership you’re in.

Level 1: Customer (FREE)

This is just like a normal customer.

  • No membership fees required
  • Buy Shaklee products at retail price
  • Cannot promote products to make money

Level 2: Member ($19.95)

This can also be known as a “Premium Customer”

  • You pay a one-time fee of $19.95 to enjoy 15%~25% discount on your purchases
  • No autoship or monthly order requirement
  • Cannot promote products to make money as well

Level 3: Distributor ($49.95)

This is the membership level in which you can start promoting Shaklee’s products and earn a commission.

But here’s the requirement:

  • You need to pay $49.95 up-front just to become their distributor
  • You MUST have at least 100PV of product purchase every month in order for you to qualify for commission (This is like a monthly autoship or order requirement)

Level 4: GOLD Ambassador ($299~$599)

Most MLM stop at the distributor level but Shaklee is a little bit different.

There’s one more GOLD Ambassador level which has 2 products:

  1. Gold pak ($299)
  2. Gold plus pak ($599)

The benefit of these two PAKs is that you are eligible for higher commission levels.

So, GOLD PLUS PAK membership definitely allows you to earn more commission than the GOLD PAK.

However, no matter which one you’re paying for, you still need to pay the $49.95 and meet the monthly order requirement.

What are the pros and cons of Shaklee?

Here are the pros:

  • Long history
  • It encourages a healthy lifestyle
  • Good BBB rating
  • Great tools and support

Here are the cons:

  • Expensive startup costs
  • Expensive to stay active in the business
  • Too many products
  • The compensation plan is hard to understand
  • 95% of Shaklee members does not make money

My Final Thoughts

Before you decide to join Shaklee. I would recommend that you try out the products first. See if it’s a fit for what you’re looking for.

If you don’t believe in the products that you are selling, chances are others wouldn’t. Makes sense, right?

If you’ve decided that you want to join Shaklee, you must have the following if you want to succeed:

  • A support team and system that will help build your business.
  • A mentor that will take you by the hand and help you reach your dreams and goals.
  • A constant flow of new leads and prospects that want to join your business.

It is not easy to be successful in the Shaklee business and which is why more than 95% fail.

If you feel the person you are going to sign up with is not going to be able to give you the necessary tools to help you succeed…
