Scentsy Review – Legit or Scam MLM Opportunity?

You are doing research on Scentsy because someone approached you about it and you want to know if this company is legit or a scam. That’s what we’re about to find out.

If you have been here before, welcome back!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my Scentsy review!

One of the common questions I get asked often is if Scentsy a scam or not.

We’re going to take the next few minutes to take a look and get some answers.

The main concern I have for people who are researching this opportunity is that I don’t want them to get burned. In the profession of network marketing, anything could happen.

A company ends up shutting down in a few months due to bad business decisions for being non-compliant, compensation plan change, or the company not paying it’s distributors.

Even worst, your direct sponsor or upline leaves the company. Leaving you hanging to dry.

I understand that many of you are new. Sometimes we are not in a position to make a solid business assessment due to inexperience.

Additionally, I am going to offer you a way for you to escape the ‘9 to 5’ if you decide that this company is not for you.

More information about this program will be at the end of this post.

You landed on this blog because you are thinking about joining Scentsy because someone approached you about it or you just want to try out their products.

Unlike all the other Scentsy reviews on the internet, this is completely third party unbiased. I have no relationship with this company what so ever so when you read this blog post all the way through and pay attention, I can assure you that I am not going to ask you to join or buy.

By the time you have read this unbiased review, you will be able to decide if Scentsy is a fit or not. I do not promote, nor I am affiliated with Scentsy. I stand neutral in the current development of the Scentsy business.

With that said, let’s dive in!

What is Scentsy?

Scentsy is an MLM company that plays in the home and fragrance industry. The company was founded in 2003 and they are based out of Gunnell in Salt Lake City, Utah. Scentsy manufactures its products in Meridian, Idaho.

The company is similar to LuLaRoe, Younique, Perfectly Posh, Plexus, and Color Street.

Kara Egan and Colette Gunnel, two sisters, started this company in 2003. They say that they started the company because fragrance can make people feel better and connect with others.

The sisters started selling their products at home shows and other local establishments and events In Idaho, Utah and surrounding areas. In 2004, they were at a home show in Utah when they met Orville Thompson. He believed that the sister’s wickless candle idea had merit and could turn into something big.

The current CEO’s of the company are Heidi & Orville Thompson.

The company’s ceramic warmers are made by a partner manufacturing company located in China. The company’s flagship products are scented and wickless candles housed in decorative ceramic warmers and sold by independent consultants online and through in-home parties. What does Scentsy sell?

Scentsy is definitely unique in terms of what they offer and most MLM’s are in the health and wellness field.

Not Scentsy, though. This is a company that’s based around candles and different fragrance products.

Let’s take a look at their different categories of products now:

Scent

This is definitely the most popular of the categories (which you’d expect from a company called Scentsy).

In this section you’ll find:

  • Warmers and wax
  • Diffusers and oils
  • Scentsy Go and pods
  • Various warmers
  • Essential oils
  • Various accessories

On the go

These products are all based around scents that are good on the go.

Here you’ll find:

  • Car bars
  • Room sprays

Laundry and Cleaning

Most MLM’s have a main product and then various other products that make less money – that’s what their laundry and cleaning products are.

You’ll find dish soaps, detergents, and other cleaning products here.

Body and Skin

This section is much like the last section – not really the focus of Scentsy and is more for upsells.

Here’s you’ll find:

  • Bath bombs
  • Body cream
  • Body wash
  • Fragrance roller
  • Hand cream
  • Hand soap
  • Lotion
  • Scentsy soak

Kids:

This section is mostly stuffed animals that come with a different fragrance pack. You’ll even see Mickey and Minnie Mouse stuffed animals and other Disney characters.

The Scentsy compensation plan

Scentsy has a compensation structure that they follow. How much a consultant earns is associated with how many points they have. There are different consultant levels. As someone gets to a higher level, they have the potential to earn more money.

To maintain your level, you have to consistently meet the point minimum. Consultants can be promoted or demoted based on the points that they earn during a month.

The consultant levels include:

  • Escential Consultant: They earn 20 percent commission
  • Certified Consultant: they earn a 25 percent commission.
  • Lead Consultant: They earn a 25 percent commission.
  • Star Consultant: They earn a 25 percent commission.
  • Superstar Consultant: They earn a 25 percent commission.
  • Director: They earn a 25 percent commission.
  • Star Director: They earn a 25 percent commission.
  • Superstar Director: They earn a 25 percent commission.

You also earn based on the downline of people you recruit to sell the products. The commissions for this start at the Lead Consultant Level and range from two to nine percent, depending on your consultant level during the month.

There are minimum requirements to remain a consultant. During any consecutive four-month period, you have to sell enough product to earn at least 200 points during at least one month of that period.

How to join Scentsy

For $99, you’ll get everything you need to get started as a Scentsy consultant: a warmer, 80+ scent testers, 3 months of your personal website free ($10/month after that), product samples, business tools, and a gift for joining.

What are the pros and cons of Scentsy?

Here are the pros:

  • Long history
  • Unique products
  • Learn how to become a business owner
  • No major lawsuits

Here are the cons:

  • Expensive products
  • Business is not for Everyone
  • Need to maintain a monthly quota
  • 95% of Scentsy members does not make money

My Final thoughts

Before you decide to join Scentsy. I would recommend that you try out the products first. See if it’s a fit for what you’re looking for.

If you don’t believe in the products that you are selling, chances are others wouldn’t. Makes sense, right?

If you’ve decided that you want to join Scentsy, you must have the following if you want to succeed:

  • A support team and system that will help build your business.
  • A mentor that will take you by the hand and help you reach your dreams and goals.
  • A constant flow of new leads and prospects that want to join your business.

It is not easy to be successful in the Scentsy business and which is why more than 95% fail.

If you feel the person you are going to sign up with is not going to be able to give you the necessary tools to help you succeed…
