Mary Kay Review – Another MLM Beauty Scam?

You are doing research on Mary Kay because someone approached you about it and you want to know if this company is legit or a scam. That’s what we’re about to find out.

If you have been here before, welcome back!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my Mary Kay review!

One of the common questions I get asked often is if Mary Kay is a scam or not.

We’re going to take the next few minutes to take a look and get some answers.

The main concern I have for people who are researching this opportunity is that I don’t want them to get burned. In the profession of network marketing, anything could happen.

A company ends up shutting down in a few months due to bad business decisions for being non-compliant, compensation plan change, or the company not paying it’s distributors.

Even worst, your direct sponsor or upline leaves the company. Leaving you hanging to dry.

I understand that many of you are new. Sometimes we are not in a position to make a solid business assessment due to inexperience.

Additionally, I am going to offer you a way for you to escape the ‘9 to 5’ if you decide that this company is not for you.

More information about this program will be at the end of this post.

You landed on this blog because you are thinking about joining Mary Kay because someone approached you about it or you just want to try out their products.

Unlike all the other Mary Kay reviews on the internet, this is completely third party unbiased. I have no relationship with this company what so ever so when you read this blog post all the way through and pay attention, I can assure you that I am not going to ask you to join or buy.

By the time you have read this unbiased review, you will be able to decide if Mary Kay is a fit or not. I do not promote, nor I am affiliated with Mary Kay. I stand neutral in the current development of the Mary Kay business.

With that said, let’s dive in!

What is Mary Kay?

Mary Kay is an MLM company in the cosmetics and skincare industry. The company is named after its founder Mary Kay Ash, who created the company in 1963.

The company is similar to Avon, Amway, Nu Skin, and Beautycounter.

Mary Kay Ash

Mary Kay created the company when she was passed over for a promotion while working at Stanley Home Products. She wrote a book to help assist women in business and that book became the business plan for Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Mary Kay is based out of Addison, Texas. Its main manufacturing plant is located in Dallas, Texas. The company also has a manufacturing plant in China.

She was an entrepreneurial legend in the industry.

With only $5,000 in their pockets, Mary Kay built a business that would create a means of income not just for her but for other women with the same entrepreneurial ambitions as her.

And I must say that’s worked out pretty well for them.

55 years later, Mary Kay is now one of the most recognized premier cosmetic companies in the market.

Mary Kay Ash passed away in 2001, but her legacy of entrepreneurial empowerment lives on.

Mary Kay’s son, Richard Rogers is the chairman.

How to join Mary Kay

The cost of the Mary Kay starter kit is $100.

Included in the starter kit are a carry bag, assorted product samples, brochures, and a 50% discount for your website which comes to $30 for the year.

Consultants will also have to pay for shipping and taxes.

So the minimum total start-up cost will be about $140 to $160 after everything is added up.

The starter kit is very limited in cosmetic products, which means that a consultant will need to invest more money in getting inventory for samples and stock.

What are the pros and cons of Mary Kay?

Here are the pros:

  • A+ ranking in BBB
  • Established company
  • Low start-up cost
  • Large selection of cosmetics
  • Good profit margin

Here are the cons:

  • 95% of Mary Kay members do not make money.
  • High priced cosmetics
  • Unrealistic income
  • Stuck with inventory

My Final Thoughts

Before you decide to join Mary Kay. I would recommend that you try out the products first. See if it’s a fit for what you’re looking for.

If you don’t believe in the products that you are selling, chances are others wouldn’t. Makes sense, right?

If you’ve decided that you want to join Mary Kay, you must have the following if you want to succeed:

A support team and system that will help build your business.
A mentor that will take you by the hand and help you reach your dreams and goals.
A constant flow of new leads and prospects that want to join your business.

It is not easy to be successful in the Mary Kay business and which is why more than 95% fail.

If you feel the person you are going to sign up with is not going to be able to give you the necessary tools to help you succeed…
