One of the common questions I get asked often is if Legal Shield a scam or not.

We’re going to take the next few minutes to take a look and get some answers.

The main concern I have for people who are researching this opportunity is that I don’t want them to get burned. In the profession of network marketing, anything could happen.

A company ends up shutting down in a few months due to bad business decisions for being non-compliant, compensation plan change, or the company not paying it’s distributors.

Even worst, your direct sponsor or upline leaves the company. Leaving you hanging to dry.

I understand that many of you are new. Sometimes we are not in a position to make a solid business assessment due to inexperience.

Additionally, I am going to offer you a way for you to escape the ‘9 to 5’ if you decide that this company is not for you.

You landed on this blog because you are thinking about joining Legal Shield because someone approached you about it or you just want to try out their products.

Unlike all the other Legal Shield reviews on the internet, this is completely third party unbiased. I have no relationship with this company what so ever so when you read this blog post all the way through and pay attention, I can assure you that I am not going to ask you to join or buy.

By the time you have read this unbiased review, you will be able to decide if Legal Shield is a fit or not. I do not promote, nor I am affiliated with Legal Shield. I stand neutral in the current development of the Legal Shield business.

With that said, let’s dive in!

What is Legal Shield?

Legal Shield is an MLM that provides legal services, such as trial defense, legal advice, and document preparation.  

Prior to becoming Legal Shield in 2011, founder Harland Stonecipher, as far back as 1969, began thinking of ways to bring affordable legal care to the masses.

The company’s business model is similar to Ambit Energy, ACN, and 5Linx.

In 1972 what is now known as Legal Shield, began as a sportsman’s club until it was bought out by Prepaid Legal Services in 1976.

In 1983 Prepaid Legal Services adopted the MLM (or pyramid style marketing) approach that it’s known for today.

What does Legal Shield sell?

Legal Shield’s premise is that more than 57 million Americans are facing some kind of legal issue every year, and nearly 60% of businesses have faced significant “legal events” in the past 3 years.

Thus, their main goal is to provide their clients, both individuals and small businesses, with prepaid legal services from their network of attorneys.

For a small monthly membership fee, LegalShield provides you with legal assistance in relation to:

1. Landlord / Tenant
2. Consumer Finance
3. Traffic
4. Estate Planning
5. Real Estate
6. Employment
7. Collection
8. Family Law
9. Civil Litigation
10. Criminal

Legal Shield has three plans provided for its customers:

1. Personal Plans (individuals)
2. Small Business Plans
3. Identity Theft Plans

Personal Plan

Covers the following:

1. Consultation – through letters, phone calls, document review, and trial defense
2. Document preparation – Wills, loan documents, Powers of Attorney, etc.
3. Auto – Traffic violations, vehicular accidents, insurance claims, etc.
4. Family Matters – Divorce, annulment, and adoption representation, name change assistance, etc.
5. IRS – Tax and auditing services

Identity Theft Plans

1. ID Plan – Covers you and your spouse for single credit monitoring and restoration services on top of unlimited consultations
2. ID Premium – Includes everything from the ID Plan, only with triple credit monitoring, web watch, SS number skip trace, and more.

Small Business Plan

Small Business Plan provides legal consultation for various legal issues including:

1. Debt collection
2. Contract review and renewal
3. Trial defense services
4. Landlord/tenant disputes

For each plan, you can choose from different add-ons with different ranges of prices, which you can view on their website or on one of their presentations.

Each month, you will be automatically charged from your credit card or bank account according to your plan.

Regardless of what plan you choose, keep in mind that there’s an additional $10 “enrolment fee” to be charged on your first month.

The Legal Shield compensation plan

The amount that you can earn depends on your product or service that you’re selling, and for this example, I’ll be using a $39.90 per month sale as an example.

There are 7 base levels which include:

1. Associate
2. Senior Associate
3. Manager
4. Senior Manager
5. Director
6. Senior Director
7. Executive Director

The compensation works on an “advance” system, so if an associate earns $39.90 per month on membership sale, they will be paid an advance of $100.00.

Now, note that all associates and upwards are charged back for membership cancellations.

As you progress from one level to another, like Associate to Senior Associate, your advances get larger.

A Senior Associate earns $120 per membership sale, a Director Earns $140, and so on.

Like most MLM’s, their compensation plan is complex and full of advancements and bonuses.

How to join Legal Shield

Here are the costs to get started:

Option #1 – $99.00 (plus $20.00/month for Legal Shield Advantage)

This option includes,

• Associate Portal
• Online Training
• Weekly Newsletter
• Support Center
• Associate Perks
• Help From Sponsor, Team and Local Leaders

Option #2 – $249.00

Option two includes everything from option one, plus 12 months of Legal Shield Advantage (a $240.00 value). Basically, with option two you are paying your monthly fee upfront (for one year) and foregoing the $99.00 start-up cost.

What are the pros and cons of Legal Shield?

Here are the pros:

• Great value legal packages
• It’s like an insurance for legal services
• Selling these services is easier than other MLM product lines
• The commissions are quite reasonable
• Performance bonuses

Here are the cons:

• As you are generally paid a year’s worth of commissions upfront for each sale, if someone wants to cancel their membership, you might suddenly find your account in debt
• It’s MLM, and many MLM systems have developed a reputation for being illegal pyramid schemes
• You risk losing your entire down line if you fail to remain a qualified associate
• 95% of Legal Shield affiliates do not make money

My final thoughts

Before you decide to join Legel Shield. I would recommend that you try out the products first. See if it’s a fit for what you’re looking for.

If you don’t believe in the products that you are selling, chances are others wouldn’t. Makes sense, right?

If you’ve decided that you want to join Legel Shield, you must have the following if you want to succeed:

• A support team and system that will help build your business.
• A mentor that will take you by the hand and help you reach your dreams and goals.
• A constant flow of new leads and prospects that want to join your business.

It is not easy to be successful in the Legel Shield business and which is why more than 95% fail.
