Avon Review – Another MLM Beauty Scam?

You are doing research on Avon because someone approached you about it and you want to know if this company is legit or a scam. That’s what we’re about to find out.

If you have been here before, welcome back!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my Avon review!

One of the common questions I get asked often is if Avon a scam or not.

We’re going to take the next few minutes to take a look and get some answers.

The main concern I have for people who are researching this opportunity is that I don’t want them to get burned. In the profession of network marketing, anything could happen.

A company ends up shutting down in a few months due to bad business decisions for being non-compliant, compensation plan change, or the company not paying it’s distributors.

Even worst, your direct sponsor or upline leaves the company. Leaving you hanging to dry.

I understand that many of you are new. Sometimes we are not in a position to make a solid business assessment due to inexperience.

Additionally, I am going to offer you a way for you to escape the ‘9 to 5’ if you decide that this company is not for you.

More information about this program will be at the end of this post.

You landed on this blog because you are thinking about joining Avon because someone approached you about it or you just want to try out their products.

Unlike all the other Avon reviews on the internet, this is completely third party unbiased. I have no relationship with this company what so ever so when you read this blog post all the way through and pay attention, I can assure you that I am not going to ask you to join or buy.

By the time you have read this unbiased review, you will be able to decide if Avon is a fit or not. I do not promote, nor I am affiliated with Avon. I stand neutral in the current development of the Avon business.

With that said, let’s dive in!

What is Avon?

Avon Products Inc. is an MLM company that specializes in beauty products, personal care, and household products.

Avon was founded by David McConnell in 1886. David was a door to door salesman in New York City. He started the company by selling perfumes. In 1894, he joined with Alexander Henderson and called the company the California Perfume Company. In 1932, they patented the name, Avon.

The company’s business model is similar to Mary Kay, Arbonne International, Melaleuca, and Shaklee.

David McConnell

Unlike Mary Kay, its competitor, Avon was founded by an American man named David McConnell, a traveling book salesman.

He stumbled upon the idea while going about his usual door-to-door business activities.

David used to give out free perfume samples as a bonus during his sales pitches and it worked.

At that time, he was mostly selling to stay-at-home housewives.

He began to see that these free perfume samples were getting more attention than books.

He headed back to his New York City office and started experimenting with diverse fragrance mixtures to come out with a signature product.

Next, he recruited a team of enthusiastic saleswomen to bring his enterprise to life.

Sherilyn McCoy

Today, women who like Avon products are still spreading about the products by mouth-to-mouth, an effective business model.

Today, the company is Avon Products Inc. and the CEO is Sherilyn McCoy. The company headquarters is now based in London.

Their market size and sales make them the second-largest MLM company in the world, with the first being Amway.

  5. Jewelry
  6. Fashion

The Avon compensation plan

Avon’s compensation is quite similar to other MLM’s. There are several ranks you need to reach in order to obtain a certain amount of commission.

Qualified New Recruit Bonus

To receive the qualified new recruit bonus you will earn a $20 one time payout for each qualified new recruit you personally add to your team (first generation). To clarify, this new team member must submit a paid minimum order of $150 within their first two campaigns.

Sponsoring Bonus

When your new recruit places an order of any size and you place an order of at least $50 you will receive a 3% sponsoring bonus. This bonus is continual and paid out each campaign while your new representative is active.

Promotion Bonus

The promotion bonus is earned for first-time personal title advancement. It is paid out in equal parts over 4 campaigns. Keep in mind that you need to maintain this achieved title to get the full payout. If you do not maintain the title for the full 4 campaigns you will receive a part bonus for the campaigns you do maintain the title.

Mentor Bonus

The mentor bonus is similar to the promotion bonus but is earned for first-time title advancement for a representative in your first generation. It too is paid out in equal parts over 4 campaigns and the representative needs to maintain this achieved title for them and you to get the full payout. Identical to the promotion bonus, if they do not maintain the title for the full 4 campaigns they and you will receive a partial bonus for the campaigns in which they do maintain the title.

Generation Bonus

The generation bonuses are calculated based on your team’s sales. You have the potential to receive a percentage of these sales for generations 1-5. You need to meet the minimum requirements for the specific title to earn this bonus. For Example Bronze Leader, if they met their goal of $200 in personal sales, 10 first-generation orders, and team sales of $8, 000 they would receive 6.5% for Generation 1, 3% for Generation 2, 2% for Generation 3, and 1% for Generation 4.

How to join Avon

To start with the Avon business, you will first have to invest $10 just to join as a simple affiliate. Actually, this is not that expensive compared to many other MLM businesses. Like another MLM business called Forever Living, the start cost may be the lowest!

But then, you will have to purchase brochures and other marketing materials in order to make your presentations.

And last but not least, you will need to buy your start kits:

  1. The Quick Starter Kit at $25: including products valued at $80
  2. The Advanced Starter Kit at $50: including products valued at $140
  3. The Premium Starter Kit at $100: including products valued at $400

What are the pros and cons of Avon?

Here are the pros:

  • Long history
  • Learn Entrepreneurial Skills
  • Cheap Starting Cost

Here are the cons:

  • Products are not included in the Kits
  • Business is not for Everyone
  • Need to Maintain Monthly Quota
  • 95% of Avon members does not make money

My final thoughts

Before you decide to join Avon. I would recommend that you try out the products first. See if it’s a fit for what you’re looking for.

If you don’t believe in the products that you are selling, chances are others wouldn’t. Makes sense, right?

If you’ve decided that you want to join Avon, you must have the following if you want to succeed:

  • A support team and system that will help build your business.
  • A mentor that will take you by the hand and help you reach your dreams and goals.
  • A constant flow of new leads and prospects that want to join your business.

It is not easy to be successful in the Avon business and which is why more than 95% fail.

If you feel the person you are going to sign up with is not going to be able to give you the necessary tools to help you succeed…
