Out of various ways through which the information gets shared on the internet, the basic and prime platform for information sharing is a blog.
I blog, you blog, people blog, corporations blog, small businesses blog, every one of us who uses the internet and wants to be heard uses a blog for transmission of information. However, the transmission of information is one part of the sharing of information, whereas the spread of information is the other better half. A piece of quality information is of no use if there is no one to read it or no one to benefit from it. Therefore, it is imperative that you promote your blog effectively so that you get more traffic and make your name in the target audience.
Being a successful blogger myself, I would like to tell you about 5 simple ways that have worked for me and that can also help you promote your blog to get more traffic and increase your outreach.
Use Social Media:
Blogging without sharing your content on social media platforms these days is like utilizing half the potential of your content. Although people would like to read your content, before reading your content they are more curious and concerned about your personality and what you do. Therefore, most of the traffic that will come to your blog will originate from social media platforms; hence it is imperative that you have a good social media presence. Once you have a good social media presence, then the blog content that you will share on social media will attract your fans to visit your blog and read more of your content and check what you have to say. When sharing content just make sure that your sharing does not become annoying for the audience, and depending upon the kind of audience you have, share content after some time.
Use Social Bookmarking Sites:
Another great way of promoting your blog and increasing the traffic coming to it is by using social bookmarking sites. You can post on sites such as Delicious, Digg, and StumbleUpon, which can bring you great traffic as well as backlinks. If you are able to utilize these bookmarking sites properly, then the chain of continuous blog traffic starts and you keep on receiving consistent traffic to your blog. Although the majority of social bookmarking sites are free, however, you can utilize Facebook advertising and Google AdWords for paid traffic as well.
Content Syndication:
The other way you can promote your blog effectively and increase the traffic to your website is by syndicating your content. There are numerous websites and the majority of which surely will be related to your niche, which you can find and have your content published on them. The benefit of using such websites for publication is that they already have an established and regular audience base, which you can easily draw towards your blog by sharing quality content.
Guest Blogging:
Like content syndication, guest blogging is also an effective way of promoting your blog and bringing the target audience from an established community to your blog. In guest blogging, you will have to do a little research and find other reputed blogs related to your niche that accept guest posts. Thus, then all you need to do is write a good post and publish it on the guest blog, from where the already present audience of that blog will move towards your blog and you will have the name of your blog spread in no time.
Discussion Forums:
Forums and discussions are also two excellent platforms, which you can utilize to promote your blog and increase the amount of traffic coming to your website. In this regard, first you have to find the popular forums and discussion platforms related to your niche; secondly, you have to start participating in the discussions and forums in a meaningful way. Once your participation and contribution to such platforms are meaningful, the audience at these platforms will find your content valuable and hence will start visiting your blog for more information.

Awesome post. I’m torn between Facebook and Google+ right now. I am using both but at this point, I believe Facebook still has the monopoly on social media.
But that doesn’t mean G+ won’t be a big contender. Post something on G+ and check your keywords, you get on 1st page very quickly. Staying there is the key.

These are traditionally proven avenues for the traffic and backlinks. Apart from these sources, I found a couple of others working great to drive in more traffic such as slideShare, YouTube, and PDF distribution.

Guest blogging is something I intend considering from now onwards. Getting traffic is every blogger’s dream but the ‘how’ is what are looking for.
Writing content worth sharing and then promoting it using FB ppc is still my favorite way to get massive traffic on demand and you can do it on any budget.

I use my mailing list. I talk to my followers as I do the rest of my friends and gently nudge them to reply via email, or go to the blog and share their thoughts there.
It works most of the time, unless they’re busy!

I like your second point and this is really new to me content syndication.Gust blogging is only ysefull for driving traffis and not to increase ranking in 2014
I think you can get more traffic from youtube. Since Its easy to submit a video to YouTube. Add your website’s URL to the video itself, and add a link to your site in the description of the video, too. This will help generate traffic, especially if you target keywords with your video titles.

Nate, very cool staples for traffic generation listed here. One thing I would highly recommend you add are the places where content syndication can best be pursued. (IE: DocStoc, YouTube, SoundCloud, MetaCafe etc.) There are so many places on the web that you can manually submit articles, video and audio to to slowly but surely scale up your visitor count.
