Why You Need to Be Open to Change in Business

The world of business is constantly changing from the inside out many different times throughout the year, regardless of the size or type of business.  Change is definitely something that the average business owner should get used to right away technically, especially since positive change can lead directly to positive growth for their company.  This is especially the case when discussing the emerging market and expanding world of multilevel marketing (MLM) businesses.

However, as almost any business owner or even employee would tell you, change is definitely not as easy to deal with as it may seem at first.  There are many people that strive to actually avoid change as much as possible just so that they would never have to cross that particular bridge.  There are several reasons, though, why you need to remain open when it comes to change in your MLM business.

Why You Need To Be Open to Change

Increase the Double E’s

One of the biggest benefits of change comes in the form of increasing the double E’s – effectiveness and efficiency – by embracing change.  Regardless of how long you may have had your MLM business or how much success you may have been able to achieve up to this point in your MLM career, it is important to remember that you can always get better and grow bigger.  By being open to change, you will continuously search for opportunities to become more efficient and more effective which will directly lead your MLM organization towards an upwards change in your success level.

Think About the Butterfly
Regardless of the type of business that you have, it is always important to reflect on the case of the butterfly when it comes to change overall.  Think about what happens to the caterpillar when it is naturally forced to change into a butterfly.  It goes through a complete metamorphosis which allow this tiny creature to become bigger, better and much more beautiful in every single way within a matter of time.  Even though visually it may appear as if the caterpillar has rolled up into a ball and died, once they emerge from that cocoon of change the possibilities are endless.

The same principle can easily be applied to your MLM business.  Once your MLM organization is forced into a cocoon of change, it may seem to be the end of the line for you.  It may appear that your MLM business is just going to roll up into a ball and die off.  However, as long as you embrace and accept this natural modification, you can emerge from it bigger and better than ever before.

Hey_Stop_Fighting

Do Not Fight Against the Current

If you want your MLM business to survive, you need to keep in mind that fighting against the current is not going to help you achieve that goal whatsoever.  You will actually be making it much easier to kill your MLM organization by refusing to embrace and accept change than keep it alive.  Do yourself a favor and do not place that monumental burden on the shoulders of your MLM company.

It’s your turn!

    Great points Nate,

Change is necessary in business, in 2013 we are living in the most rapidly changing times ever. You cannot control external forces but you can learn to adapt to them. Personally when it comes to business I tend to embrace change even if there is a learning process involved. If you enjoy learning new things it makes change easier to accept.

      Hi Jason,

Absolutely, you can’t control what’s outside of your reach. Thanks for the comments!

I say that I’m open to change but if something different happens, I panic! I try to adapt quickly though.

    • Nate Leung says:

As long as you’re adapting, big or small, it doesn’t matter. The fact that you’re heading in that direction. Thanks Krystal!

‘Fighting against the current’ is an amazing phrase that fits perfectly into the topic of discussion.
Nate, on a personal note, I discovered that people are afraid of change and they are failing to realize that techniques that worked five and ten years ago will not work in the present jet age of technology that we are.
Adapting to positive change though comes with pain, sacrifice and challenges; but it should be worth enduring.

    Thanks for sharing.

  5. I actually love change, for the most part. Must be the nomad blood in me. Thanks for another interesting post, Nate!

  6. Thanks Nate!! Being open to change in your business is important so you can stay in tune with the every changing world of marketing….awesome tips here, fantastic value!!!

  7. Nate! Here again a wonderful post, Thanks for the information given.

  8. Yes, you said it! You gotta be able to embrace change. We are constantly changing, as is the world around us.

  9. Hey Nate,

I remember the wise words of a coworker that went something like this “Everything that is real is subject to change”…. I took it as, if you want to be real with yourself, then allow change to happen or get left behind! So change helps you move forward so that you’re not stagnant, especially with your business. Stagnation leads to constant failure. So as Bruce Lee put it, be light water because water can take the form of anything!

  10. I find myself changing a little more each day. There are days that I get frustrated, but I know that the reason I am frustrated is because I am learning something new. And when I finally conquer that quest I get excited that I have learned something new and have changed a little bit more. Thanks for sharing

    • Nate Leung says:

Little change is better than no change. The fact that you’re changing a little each day, is more than most people do in a year. Thanks Irene!

  11. This is so true! We have to be open to change or else nothing will be accomplished!

When looking at the possibility of making a change, I believe it’s important to ask two questions:
    1) Are you getting value from your current company’s products and services?
    2) Are your company’s leaders grooming you for success?
If you answered no to either one of these questions, then it may be time for a change.

Before jumping ship, you need to reflect on your experience with your current business opportunity. Have you been plugging into the system? Are you attending trainings? Are you exposing people to your opportunity every day? If you answered no to any or all of these questions, then it may be more prudent to beef up your work in your current business before considering something different. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and if it is, either the water bill is higher or someone has done a lot of watering.

Change can be beneficial in many cases. I had experience in three companies prior to my involvement in my current business opportunity. While I am confident I could have been successful in any of those businesses by applying the right principles, I made the switch because when I saw it, I thought to myself, “I’ve finally found what I have been looking for.”

Many have asked, “What sold you on your current business?”

My response has been the same over and over again.
    1) I love and use the product. It was a natural fit for me because it was a product that was already in my budget. I didn’t have to change my buying habits.
    2) The product is easy to share via social media. You can’t build a business by spamming people and sending out mass messages, but because my company is in the travel space, sharing our experiences via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is natural. I was doing that before I got involved in network marketing.

Having been involved in the same company for over three years, I get asked this question a lot too. “What’s kept you faithful to this one company?” My response has been simple. I love the product and the services. The friendships that I have made have enhanced my life beyond anything I could have ever asked for or imagined. The personal development has sharpened me in all phases of my life. Finally, I am a happier and more fulfilled person because of my experience in my company.

The network marketing skeptics might ask, “Well what about the money?” Let me say this. The money is wonderful, and I am working hard to reach the highest rank in my company. But studies have shown that money is not number one on a list of what motivates people to achieve. People are looking for high quality relationships with people who will enhance their lives. Relationships are what matter most.

So if you are thinking it’s time for a change, think long and hard before jumping. You don’t want to develop a reputation as one of those guys who jumps from one opportunity to the next. Find a company that offers products that you love and want to use. Get involved in every aspect of the company: the trainings, the local meetings, the regional events, and the national and international events. Finally, expose, expose, and expose. Go get 20 no’s a day and watch your business explode.

    To your success!

      Hi Bill,

I like what you’ve shared. Most network marketers do not make it past the first year with the company they started with. One of two things will happen. Either they will quit or they will move on to another company. The fact that you’re focused and still with the same company shows a lot about your character as a networker. It’s almost sad to say that it’s a rarity these days. Stay true to yourself and keep moving towards that journey. I appreciate you taking the time to share this with me. Thank you Bill. 🙂

Embracing change is really not a natural thing for most of us to accept. But by seeing there will be growth in the process, we can be excited to handle change. I love the metamorphosis analogy…it truly reaches into my kindergarten world!

Nice example with the caterpillar and butterfly there Nate!

    Hey Nate,

I actually been in 2 different MLM companies and I worked my ass off for long months and I failed miserably. (I take full responsibility for it.)
Then the change came in the cloth of a completely different niche . Day trading. That’s what I do and haven’t look back ever since.

Some don’t like change but I say with change comes opportunity.

    cool post

The “stop fighting” dog picture made me smile. And I totally agree with the message of this post, although it’s hard for me to implement in real life. Change is necessary for growth & progress! You can’t improve if you don’t change!

    • Nate Leung says:

Exactly. That is “insanity”. Something has to change if what you’re doing isn’t working. Thank you for the comments!

Great reminder about change! When I was younger, I was all about finding about the latest and greatest. The older I get, the more overwhelming it gets. I think it is because how rapid tech changes are now. Just when you finally learn something, it’s changed!

I’ll have to try to remember to keep an open mind about possibility of change bringing growth. Thanks!
