Why Entrepreneurship Needs To Be Encouraged In Today’s Society

The general trend in our society, in our schools and in our homes is that we encourage our children to choose professions that are reputed, dignified and above all offer a lot of money. We want them to be doctors, engineers, lawyers and so on. However, very few of us want our children to be an entrepreneur, and even if they do, they don’t know how to assist and train the children in this regard.

To me it is one of the greatest ills of our society that we do not encourage our kids to become entrepreneurs and if someone succeeds in becoming an entrepreneur we always indulge in the debate of I am better than him because I have a law degree, I am better than him because I went to a university and earned a Ph.D. and notions like that. All these are things that discourage those who want to be entrepreneurs and those who are entrepreneurs.

On the other side of the general stereotype, entrepreneurs are actually the most contributing members of society. Although they don’t contribute to society in a well-dressed manner, their contribution is much more than what the lawyers contribute in courts and doctors contribute in hospitals. In the lines below, I give you a few major reasons why entrepreneurs need to be encouraged in today’s society.

Why Entrepreneurship Needs To Be Encouraged In Today’s Society

Create Jobs:

The first and foremost important thing that entrepreneurs are able to do which lawyers and doctors cannot do is create jobs. Entrepreneurs come with ideas and these ideas take the shape of a venture, and when the venture gets materialized, it creates jobs and positions for others. Thus, as a result of the efforts of the entrepreneurs more jobs are created, hence more entrepreneurs in society mean more jobs. Therefore, if they present entrepreneurs are encouraged, the aspiring entrepreneurs will surface and create more jobs for ordinary people who wish to live an ordinary life with ordinary means.

Change Lives:

Another thing that entrepreneurs are able to do is slightly on the emotional level, they change the lives of the people. Any idea of the entrepreneur that becomes a success changes the lives of people. Al Gore inventing the internet, Zuckerberg coming up with the idea of FaceBook are but a few examples of how entrepreneurs change the lives of people. Therefore, another reason why entrepreneurs need to be encouraged is to bring the necessary change in our lives without which life becomes monotonous and ceases to progress. Hence, in order to keep life-changing for the better it is imperative to plant and water the seeds of entrepreneurship in our children.

Why Entrepreneurship Needs To Be Encouraged In Today’s Society

Innovation:

The other obvious reason why entrepreneurs are necessary for the contemporary world is the innovation they bring in our lives. The advancement in technology is primarily due to the different brainchild of different IT geniuses coming to surface. Therefore, if they had gone the conventional way of doing some job in a corporate, then they would not have come up with a different idea that changed the whole IT world. Therefore, to bring innovation in our lives whether it’s technological or non-technological, it is important that those entrepreneurs be encouraged so that with the innovation they could transform the way we do things and the way we live.

Economic Growth:

Above all, if nothing else, then the only thing why society needs to encourage entrepreneurs is that they bring economic growth. Entrepreneurs bring new ideas, on the basis of these ideas, they take the risk of starting a business no matter what the odds are, and when the business runs it automatically helps the economy grow. Therefore, imagine that if a society has entrepreneurs all around, then economic depression would harm such a society to a minimal extent.  Therefore, having entrepreneurs around means, the economic depression has the possibility and chances of converting into an economic boom anytime.

Hi Nate. I’ve read your bio and you are very interesting. So maybe you have suggestions for my dilemma. I very much want to succeed in mlm/networking. I have the zest and zeal. However I have been laid off and do not have any extra money to pay into all these different programs. I can not afford memberships, lists and so on. I don’t know what to do or where to look. I was hoping you might have some ideas or suggestions. It would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

      Hi Donna,

    Hi Nate,
Awesome post! I couldn’t agree more. Society has been successful in conditioning us to believe certain falsehoods. Formal education is great, but the true free spirit cannot be underestimated!

    Ben

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Ben,

Exactly. One we are condition to believe. Go to school, then get good grades and try to find a good job that will pay you until you retire. It’s what I like to call the 40/40/40 plan.

      40 – Work 40 hours a week
      40 – For the next 40 years
40 – Living off 40% that Uncle Sam takes for your retirement

entrepreneurship also allows us to live in a life that we choose such as pursuing our interests through entrepreneurship. for example, if we love cooking, then we may pursue a business that focuses on food preparation.

job market does not always offer jobs related to food preparation and even if there is, some qualifications must be met (e.g. culinary course). if you are not qualified, then you cannot be accepted for such position

    • Nate Leung says:

You bring up some great points Marilyn! Thank you for the comments!

  4. Dave says:

Yes Nate here i am asking you a question. How to generate a lead from Social media and tell me best way to represent my business?

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Dave,

  5. Ryan Biddulph says:

    I side with you Nate!

Be an entrepreneur. Create good things for others. Your product or service and jobs created benefit so many people, it is quite amazing.

    Thanks!

  6. phil says:

I agree I like this entry. People these days need to look into business for themselves.. there arent enough jobs and creating your own is a great learning experience . great read!

  7. Julie Kemeny says:

Entrepreneurs should stand tall and proud. Nowadays, a degree doesn’t mean much. Most of the entrepreneurs I know make waaaay more money than anyone that went down the college path. Sky is the limit when you are an entrepreneur!

    • Nate Leung says:

Yes, a degree doesn’t hold much weight or value that it once did. Even with a job, it’s capped and there’s a ceiling. Being an entrepreneur, you’re not capped at all. Thanks for the comment!

  8. Rick Koobs says:

Nate, I am in full agreement with you. I’ve wondered for years why our schools, from early grades one, don’t instill in young people a yearning for entrepreneurship. Kids need to be taught the importance of striking out into the deep, of trying to change the status quo, and of doing all they can do to make a difference in society and the world.

What’s more, they need to be taught that it is most natural to do this… that the power is within them to do this. And they need to be shown how to unleash that power, all through their educational years, and beyond.

    Great post!

  10. Barbara says:

I wholeheartedly agree. In our family, grandparent’s and parents were entrepreneurs and we’re raising our kids to think towards that goal. Even though it is not always an easy road, the rewards as you have laid them out so well here are numerous. One is an artist, one techie, one a writer and one is not sure yet, but exposing them to all the possibilities available and encouraging innovation is where the excitement begins.
    Great post. Thanks

I was introduced to the entrepreneur world in 2000 and have been an entrepreneur since. I love seeing the entrepreneur spirit in my son too. He’s always had it in him since he was little and it has blossomed even more over the past 3 years since we started homeshooling. I totally agree that entrepreneurship should be taught to children.

  12. Sophie Bowns says:

Thanks for sharing this! I completely agree! 🙂

  13. Charmie says:

Well, no doubt in that these days the entrepreneurship’s rate is booming in the markets but simultaneously the efforts to entertain any big idea by a small entrepreneur is decreasing. And yes there are parents who still do not diagonize what their child really wants to be because they are scared of the risks required to be taken in this field.
Thanks a lot for sharing this. 🙂

  14. Mosam says:

I am still a student yet I am doing one of the small business and I am thankful to my parents for being so supportive to me.

    Regards

  15. Nate: I agree, although I hope it is changing. Society still see security and status in a “job”. Like many other entrepreneurs I’m different, my father has an entrepreneur spirit and worked for himself in different businesses until his was in his 80’s. I was brought up in that world. I actually avoided it at first because I knew the stress that I can bring to your life.

I’ve been an entrepreneur since 2004 and I still get a thrill when I receive a cheque for something that I did from finding the lead, to closing the sales and delivery the service/product. Had it the other day, that feeling never gets old.

    • Nate Leung says:

Exactly. It doesn’t. It’s very fulfilling. Glad to see you feel that way!

  16. Fabi says:

I think I have always known. Never wanted to “work” for anyone.

  17. Totally agree Nate!
Entrepreneurship should be encouraged much more to our youth!
I have always done this for my children, and because of it, my 18 year old son has always made more money than kids his age.
While other kids are complaining, my son is our finding opportunities to earn income.

    • Nate Leung says:

That’s awesome Samantha! Make mommy and daddy very proud! I appreciate you sharing that!

  18. This article is compelling and I totally agree with you. I am not an entrepreneur but I’d like to be when I can get some capital built up. Both my parents were entrepreneurs. My dad is an independent, general contractor and my mother runs her own real-estate business. My grandparents want me to have a normal job that offers good healthcare and retirement and security.

  19. Krystle says:

I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur when I found out how much I could do for others and myself at the same time. There were hurdles as I am still overcoming some, but they will not stop me in determining where I am going and where I want to be.

  20. Maggie Owens says:

I so agree that being an entrepreneur should be more encouraged. I saw how my daughter struggles after getting her degree in finding a job on completion of college.

    • Nate Leung says:

That should be an eye opener for your daughter. It’s sad to see that new grads are struggling to find jobs in the same field that they studied in.

  21. Liz says:

Yes, I totally agree. Being an entrepreneur gives you time and financial freedom…if you set it up the right away 🙂

  22. Samir says:

    Hello,

Entreprenership is really important to create jobs and also be the boss to our business. I’ve always preferred to the job or business on my own.

    Thanks

  23. Amira Muhammad says:

More people need to look into being their own boss, if they work hard at it God Willing they will benefit! 🙂

    • Nate Leung says:

I agree with you there! More people should take hold of their own destiny by being their own boss! 🙂

  24. alexran says:

    Hi Nate –

Very good article. It is very informative so it is very and will be useful for my business. Thanks for sharing this post. Hope to read more helpful information from you. Have a nice day!

  25. Hi Nate,

Awesome post today. I guess for me it was about ten years ago but I had so many telling me I couldn’t do it, I was crazy for trying it and of course the many false attempts due to “shiny objects” always popping up.

I’m on course now and ignore those who tell me I can’t, because I WILL.

    Have a great day. Monna

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Monna,

You’re a prime example of “never giving up”. It just shows from your perseverance, that you’re willing to try something new, step outside of your comfort zone and be willing to fail forward. It looks like your confidence and beliefs have grown as well! So proud of you! 🙂

  26. Zina Solomon says:

    Hi Nate,

I absolutely love your posts! I agree that society should encourage more people to become entrepreneurs. I decided that I was going to embark on that journey in 2013. I will tell you that I’m learning a lot about myself in the journey and it’s exciting.

    • Nate Leung says:

That is what it’s all about, Zina! Learning about yourself, grow within and then going out there and helping the world! Thank you Zina!

  27. Vicky says:

    Hello Nate,

First reason to encourage entrepreneurship is we can expect lot of new jobs for young people who are struggling to choose their career.

Secondly it”s a great journey with lot of adventures.

  28. Luke Blower says:

    Hi Nate,

I live in Japan and the spirit of entrepreneurship is completely discouraged, and I think this is the case in so many education systems. The teacher is always seen as the central point and the students should just input the info that the teacher gives them into their brains.

This is completely wrong in my mind.

    Great post.
