I am sure that like me you might have also at some point in life heard the comment “don’t be such a child”. In general, understanding, being a child means being naïve or immature or innocent. Thus, as age progresses and we grow from being a child to being an adult, we are supposed to be more sophisticated, more mature and sharper.
Although the general notion about being a kid is right and it is also a fact that we all have to grow up eventually and take on different responsibilities and see the world from a different perspective. However, still, there are good things in children, which adults need to learn from them. In the lines below I shall discuss with you what adults can and must learn for children in order to make their life better and more successful.
The other great thing about kids is that they always think and dream perfectly. To them, the world is like a utopia where everything is possible. Besides the fact that a utopian world of kids is not applicable or adaptable in real life, but their perfection has another lesson for adults, which is that if you aim for something perfect eventually you end up with something good. This is a true fact of life that if you have to reach the roof you have to set the aim for the sky. Thus, adults can learn the idea of dreaming something perfect, which when implemented in the real world would give something of good use. For instance, if you dream like a child to eliminate poverty from the world, then you might succeed in eliminating it from your country, state, city or if nothing works then at least you will be able to make your neighborhood poverty-free. Hence, the sense of having everything perfect and of ideal quality is another thing that adults need to learn from kids.
Have you ever had the feeling where you wanted to do something, which others would call, stupid? Children always do that because they don’t have the kind of constraints and limitations that we have. On the basis of that kids are able to sometimes say the wisest of things or do the funniest of things that elate your heart and mind. So as an adult we must also try to be irrational sometimes because being irrational frees your mind from all the constraints and limitations and for a while, everything seems possible. Moreover, it also helps relieve whatever burden you are carrying in your mind or heart. Therefore, whether it’s playing with your kids, sitting with friends or just alone in the park try doing things the irrational way, you won’t do them right but you’ll definitely know one way of not doing particular things.
Perhaps the greatest thing that we the adults of today can learn from children is sincerity. In their thought and action children are sincere and they always wish good and happiness for everyone. The reason why we are losing connection with people has no one to share our sorrows with and have very limited people to celebrate our happiness is the fact that we are not sincere with each other. On the other hand, children are sincere in the first place and they reciprocate sincerity with sincerity. Therefore, the essence of childhood is sincerity which we all lose with exposure to the world and bad experiences, hence the need is to learn sincerity and reciprocating it with sincerity from children so that we could value each other and help each other build a cooperative and caring society.
