Personal Development Tips: The Power of a Mastermind Group

In maybe the most legendary business book ever, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, the concept of a mastermind was first introduced to the general population. Sure, the mastermind group has always existed – ever since a handful of cavemen get together to plan and plot the next hunting trip – but this was the first real “concrete” example of the power that is able to be accessed the moment that you join one of these groups.

However, most people simply ignore the almost too obvious benefits a mastermind group provides – instead of trying to become the next “renegade business leader”, some kind of lone wolf and it’s going to turn the world on its head without any help. Deep down I think we all understand that all of the leaps and bounds we been able to generate in business have come thanks to teams and teams of people working with one another towards a common goal – but somehow we forget that and feed our hero complex.

Here are just a handful of reasons why you’ll want to join a mastermind group – or even create one – to change your business and life entirely.

Perspective change is everything when you use a mastermind group

Even though our brains are widely regarded as the most powerful computing systems that we are aware of, the only thing better than a single superpowered computer tucked up into our skulls is a team of superpowered computers that we have instant access to.

Not only are you going to be able to tap into the collective skills, knowledge, and information of all the people in your mastermind – you’re also going to be able to look at your specific situation through new perspectives. There may not be anything more valuable than this specific benefit, as exposing yourself to new perspectives from people who have different life experiences – as well as different values, morals, and skill sets – will help to almost “force you to grow” as far as your business is concerned.

There are safety and security in numbers

Being an entrepreneur and business leader you are doing business for yourself even though you may not be by yourself. At every corner we feel as though we have the weight of our world crashing down upon our shoulders (not unlike at less), wondering what’s going to be the straw that finally brings the whole thing tumbling down.

However, when we are able to link up with a mastermind group of people just like us – all in the same boat, so to speak – we’re able to tap into the collective confidence of that group. This allows us to move forward with more and riskier situations without feeling the nerves, stress, and pressure, really forcing our businesses to become better and better almost by proxy.

Mastermind groups have an amazing amount of power and leverage, but it’s up to you to take advantage of all they have to offer. There’s absolutely no reason whatsoever to “go it alone” in our modern world – and in fact, if you try to do so the odds are fantastic that you’ll get crushed by competitors who are using a mastermind to full effect.

Now it’s your turn!

Hey, Nate. I completely agree! I have been a member of several mastermind groups and have always seen a tremendous boost in my productivity and results. Creativity flows, income goes up, birds start singing, etc. LOL

I have personally found that I had a much better experience and results from mastermind groups I paid to become a member of vs ones that people joined for free. Much higher level of commitment, focus, and clarity. Thanks for a great post.

The connections I have made, the ideas they have helped me to cultivate, and the comfort of knowing I’m not going it alone, has made my experience all the more valuable.

I enjoy being in the group and treasure the fact that I can go to this group of like-minded business women with the challenges I face and know that at the end of the session I will have what I need to move forward. Great share!

I am a big fan of the mastermind! Even before I knew that phrase, it has been the approach I’ve worked with in my teaching career. I really love to bounce ideas off some other people’s brains!

  21. Hey Nate,

I had both good and bad experiences with mastermind groups. One thing to focus on, which is common sense, is to make sure that everyone in the group is on the same page. If one person is focused on blogging and the other is focused on just going to BNI meetings, then there’s going to be some conflict.

But once you find a group of people that’s on the same page, the synergy among the group becomes ridiculously insane. It’s unfathomable the power that’s within the group! The support as well as getting different perspectives will take each person a long way. Thanks for sharing!

  22. Hi Nate,

The immense power in building a MM group cannot be understated.

You touched on key points;so much safety and security in having a massive group of friends surrounding you.

    Thanks for sharing buddy!

  23. I am part of a mastermind and we meet virtually most Thursdays. It has lead to joint ventures, and incredible ideas that are inspired because of this connection with others who are just as powerful in their own way. For me, the mastermind is like taking a lamp, plugging it in, and VOILA! Light! The lamp by itself cannot deliver light, the plug by itself cannot deliver light, but the two together brought the light to shine.

  24. Zina Solomon says:

The world hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to say
how they believe. All the time follow your heart.
