What is the 10x rule?

After a quick scan of the content within the book, you will inevitably begin to see, that this not just another book of dry motivational drivel, but it is, in fact, a complete philosophy to reaching your life goals. The main point of this book that overrides all the other smaller lessons is that success is not a reward, success is a duty.

Success is the minimum that you should achieve and in order to achieve it you need to set really big goals. Therefore the basic 10x rule is this; whatever goal you have, multiply it by 10 and that is your true goal. This is the easy bit, next comes the real work. In order to reach this seemingly unattainable goal, you are going to need to work harder than you ever thought possible. Here is where that little 10x phrase comes into play again. The rule states that in order to reach your 10x goal, you are going to need to take 10x more action.

However, there is a slight underlying message to this book that is meant to motivate you not just for the next few months but for the rest of your life. If you are setting goals that you actually reach, then you are not setting them high enough. If you reach your goal then that essentially means that you could have done better and could have tried harder.

The goals that you set should be the ultimate mark of perfection, and we all know that perfection does not exist. This may sound strange, but the technique is sneaky and clever, to say the least. By setting goals so incredibly high, you will work not just 10x but 20x and 30x harder to try and reach them, and in the process, you will find that success was just around the corner all along. The goal you set should be nothing more than a tool to motivate you to reach your full potential and expertly navigate the murky waters between success and failure. To use an old cliché ‘it’s not the destination that matters, it’s the journey’, and the journey that this book refers to is the journey of life. The point is that you should be constantly moving forward, your journey should not end until your life does.

How can you 10x your life?

To learn how to effectively 10x your life, you definitely need to read this book. However, if you want a little preview then Grant provides a comprehensive list of actions that successful people will regularly take. These actions taken regularly will help you to put the 10x rule into practice every single day of your life.

1. Have a ‘Can Do’ Attitude

Always be positive! Even if a task seems so difficult that you couldn’t even imagine how you could complete it, tell yourself you can. ‘Believing is achieving’.

2. Focus on opportunity

You should always be looking for new avenues and new pathways to better yourself and your business. Take every opportunity that comes to you. Even if it doesn’t work out, you will learn something valuable that you can take forward into your next venture.

3. Seek to solve problems

Never give up! There is always a way around a problem. If you are doing it right, then each problem you solve will bring up two new ones. This should be the pattern of your life. Problems mean progression and progression is the only route to success.

4. Commit First – Figure Out Later

Instead of meticulously forming a plan of action before you commit to a goal. Don’t think about it. Form the goal first and figure out the route there later.

5. Be Uncomfortable

If you feel completely calm and relaxed, then you are failing. Being fully comfortable in your business life means you are not pushing yourself, you’re not taking risks and you’re not progressing.

6. Love Challenges

Embrace every challenge that comes your way. Put every effort into meeting that challenge head-on and always hit the ground running.

7. Persist Until Successful

Never settle for anything less than a complete success. The only person can ensure your success is you, and you are going to need to be persistent to get there. Once you do reach success, keep going. There is always room for improvement.

8. Focus on ‘Now’.

Sometimes you just need to stop and think about what you can do right now that is going to benefit you tomorrow. Every minute of every day, you should be thinking; can I do more? And the answer should always be yes!

9. Embrace Change

Change does not mean failure. Maybe your business took an unexpected turn and you’re not quite sure how to deal with it. But it doesn’t matter, just run with it. If you are committed to being successful then you will be.

10. Have Big Goals and Dreams

The core proposition of the 10x rule. Always dream big and set your goals even bigger.

Why do you need this book?

Even if you are not quite ready to fully take on all the advice that this book offers, it is still a tool that you desperately need. The knowledge you gain from just this one book will give you a foundation to build on for the rest of your life. As previously stated, this book is a philosophy, not an instruction manual.

It will enable you to change your mindset and the way you approach the terrifying prospect of achieving your dreams. Throughout the book, Grant expresses that the core qualities every successful human being should have are boldness and bravery, and the techniques offered in the book are meant to open up these qualities within you. Boldness and bravery are not just qualities that will help you in business, they will be beneficial to all aspects of your life, and help you to become a well-rounded person.

The 10x Rule is a whole new take on success and failure and this is immediately apparent. The standard marketing strategies in other publications tell businesses to work just hard enough to make some money and then sit back and enjoy it.

Every other motivational book out there is focused completely on the outcome, and essentially this doesn’t work. If you only care about getting to a certain point so you can stop trying then what’s the point of trying to get to that point in the first place. This book will teach you that there is far more to be gained from working hard than just something else ticked off your to-do list. If you are any of the following three things then this book will definitely be the perfect tool for you.

1. You work hard, but you don’t have a clear path in mind. You don’t regularly set goals and tend to just take each day as it comes.

2. You’re a little bit lazy and are too focused on the financial outcome of a business venture.

3. You are absolutely full to the brim of a competitive drive but are unsure of how to channel this energy.

Commit first! I love that advice. One committed person really can change the world. It really is that simple. We live in a society today where most people can’t commit to anything. That’s one of the biggest challenges in our industry. Nothing worth accomplishing is fast, free or easy. You have to stay the course and persist until successful.
