Seven years. That’s how long it took for Amazon to stop losing money. That’s right – one of the world’s most successful modern business enterprises was, for seven years, entirely unprofitable. Business is challenging, even if you have a brilliant idea and excellent execution like the creators of Amazon did. A great business plan is essential. Executing that plan right is necessary for success. But there’s more to it than that. Read on to find out what makes the difference between failure and millions.
People buy people, not the company
The first concept is, your business is you. Who you are – the essential traits of your personality, I mean – are all evident in the way you are able to run your business. Your business reflects you, especially in the long-term. And if you’re not a very confident person, or if you’re too timid to force things to work, that will show in your MLM business. More accurately, it will show in a business failure.
That’s why you have to believe in yourself. And not just believe in yourself – know in yourself. You have to be 100% confident in your ability to succeed. If you doubt it, even a little bit, that doubt will become a self-fulfilling prophecy, and you’ll get nowhere. The easiest way to get over this? Work as hard as you would if you knew you would succeed tomorrow if you did, and act, today as if you’ve succeeded.
Don’t try to be some hotshot by spending money and clothes and fancy cars that you cannot afford. People do not care about that stuff. People only care about what you can do for them. Remember, you need to add value to people’s lives. This isn’t about you, it’s about the people you can help.
Climbing to the Top
As if you’ve succeeded. What do we mean by that? Certainly not that you go out and buy a Lamborghini in celebration – that’s for a little later. Rather, we mean you should beam, smile, and talk as if you’ve made it. The confidence you exude will rub off on those you’re trying to convince to join you in your MLM business, which will, of course, help you sell it to them. And when you successfully share and help others, the fortunes will come to you. Confidence is evident and it shows.
Onwards and Upwards
So what does this mean for you? That millions of dollars and serious success in business are just a few points of confidence away. All it takes is for you to realize that you’ve got to work hard, dedicate yourself, and, be consistent. You don’t have to show off because of any of that stuff matters. Many before you have successfully have done it already. So why wait? Get on it. Financial freedom is waiting. Just click, smile, and work. Then the money, the success, and all the rest will come naturally.
Now it’s your turn!
How do you feel about faking it till you make it? Do you feel it’s a good strategy? Please leave your feedback in the comments section and I look forward to reading them!
What a great point Nate. The Balloon Syndrome; somebody puffs themselves up so much, buying stuff they can’t afford and building a ruse-based self image that the pop is inevitable. You will either be exposed or break down due to a built-ridden conscience. Love the message buddy.
Thanks for the comments Ryan!
Powerful message! And you have said it well. In this business you just have to learn and practise delayed gratification.
Exactly! Thank you for the comments!
Great post as always, Nate! Your posts are always so informative and easy to read. The layout is great with the balance of photos and text.
I’m not sure if we should “fake it” until we make it, but we should never give up. 🙂 Keep on keeping on!
Thanks Stefani! Appreciate the comments! 🙂
Oh my gosh Nate, I use to hate when people would tell me I had to fake it till I made it. What does that even mean! How can anyone really do that because to me that’s just lying.
It’s really funny because I post a lot of inspirational and motivational quotes every weekday on the social media sites and I found one on this topic. It said, “Don’t fake it until you make it, fake it until you become it.” Priceless my friend just priceless.
I think that in anything in life when it’s something you truly want bad enough that you have to exude the confidence. I mean if you join network marketing with every intention of having success then “know it”, “own it” and just “do it”. To me that’s making it because you’re proving to people that you can become what you set out to do. There doesn’t have to be any faking it involved.
That’s my take on it anyway Nate and great topic my friend.

Hey Adrienne!
Love that quote! You’re so right, definitely priceless!
I agree, just like any business, you take the bull by the horns, and make a decision to own your life. Be responsible for your own success!
Appreciate your feedback! Thanks Adrienne!
People buy people….ain’t that the truth.
Great stuff as always my man. Wish more folk would do what you say 🙂
Absolutely! Thanks Adam!
Hi Nate!
Each time I hear that phrase “Fake it till you make it.” I get all riled up! If we fake ANYTHING in business, it is transparent. People are pretty intuitive and will pick up on those who act this way.
Success varies to each and every person. If you are out there trying to impress people by big toys and all that bling, it won’t do you any good.
On the other hand, If you are there for people, leading, teaching, and truly caring, that will impress them more than the car you are driving!
That’s my take on it!
-Donna
Hi Donna!
Yes, people will pick up on it if you’re being real or being honest and up front. No one likes to be around a “faker”.
Buying the fancy cars and clothes doesn’t do anyone any good.
What I always say is be yourself, be authentic. Help others get what they want, and you’ll be success beyond your wildest dreams.
Thank you for the feedback!
You did it again, Nate! You gave me the day’s inspiration! I’ve been hearing this message from numerous mentors recently. So it is the message I am taking action upon!
Awesome Pam! Keep at it and keep taking action! 😉
Hi Nate
I am like the others here no we should not fake it as people know. It is by being authentic we win people.
There are enough success stories new people can use until they get their own results. As you said people want to know how you can help them not about how good you can look.
Love the post
Sue
Hi Sue!
Yes, if you’re brand new or never made money in Network Marketing That is perfectly fine. Leverage your upline and the success stories. People don’t care if you made money or not, people only care about what you can do for them! Love your feedback!
Faking it till you make it is never a good choice because in the end is someone finds that you are a fake you end up looking like an @$$… haha… What you said about the “business is you” is the truth especially in the online industry where people have so many choices in which to receive information from.
Yes, I completely agree with you, Lol.
Thanks for the comments!
I’m surprised by the things you have written here. I agree, MLM is very hard to succeed at, especially since most people do not know what it is.
MLM can be hard, but for the most part it’s challenging. It’s a new type of skill set people need to learn. Most people are not educated about MLM so that’s why it can be challenging. Appreciate your feedback!
Hi Nate,
Loving your writing style and “serious success in business are just a few points of confidence away” idea!
Almost without exception, new team members do not realize that they have all the quality that needed to be successful. Even after mastering the basic skills, some aspiring leaders still have trouble believing that they can be hugely successful.
Smaller successes are the best way to motivate potential leaders to be more confident in themselves. Faking does not work. Getting real results does!
Thanks, Nate!
Viola Tam – The Business Mum
Hello Viola,
Thank you for the kind words! 🙂
Yes, all team members have what it takes to be successful. It’s just a matter of going through the process to reach that point.
As human beings, whether we are a hundredaire, thousandaire or millionaire, we all have skill sets that we can always improve on.
The only thing that separates the ones who are successful from the ones who have not made it is that, they managed to stay consistent and focused on a particular skill set or task and managed to do the same things day in and day out.
I agree with you when it comes to having smaller successes.
Break them down, make small daily progress and overtime it will compound and success will find you sooner than expected!
Appreciate the comments!
Hey Nate great article you have have here!
You definitely have to lead with value in this industry or you will be left for dead.
You also have to stay educated to lead with value as you had said in the post.
Keep up the great work, can’t wait to see what you post next!
Hey Craig,
It’s always nice to see a new visitor!
I agree, value for value must be exchanged in our industry. Keep growing, stay inspired and give value!
Appreciate you stopping by! Hope to see you again soon. Have a great week ahead!
It can be so difficult finding a decent Network Marketing company that resonates, have started seriously thinking about trying it myself again after I tried a few years ago. Shared this on my FB wall, very useful.
Did not fake it, still made it. Did it by being honest, genuine, straightforward, and ethical. Sometimes it’s not about just confidence about your product–it’s also willing to admit to faults and CHANGE to become more efficient, provide better customer service, and sell a superior product. This (in part) is why Amazon is so successful. If confidence was all it took, any cocky old bloke can make it.
