MLM Blog: Is Your Why Big Enough?

People in MLM Network Marketing often refer to your “Why?” when it comes to building your business. This is basically shorthand for the question, “Why are you involved in this business?” When you first start to tell your friends, family and business associates about your MLM opportunity they will probably ask this question straight away. It is not only important to have a solid answer to this question, but it is also important that you believe the answer you give. You have to believe in the “Why?” if you are going to convince other people to join your opportunity. If you want to succeed in MLM then you must be passionate about your “Why?” and also be able to adequately explain it to other people. You must first ask the question, “Is my Why big enough?”

Is Your MLM Why Big Enough

Having a strong “Why?” is very important if you are going to help people in this industry. It is also important for yourself, as it will provide the motivation necessary to keep you going when times are difficult. Here are some reasons why “Why?” is so important:

-When you commit to chasing your dreams in life there will always be people that call you crazy and try to stand in your way. Having a big “Why?” will help you get past the naysayers and other people that think what you are doing is crazy.

-Starting an MLM business from home takes a certain amount of risk. If your reasons for doing it, or your “Why?” aren’t strong enough then you might not be willing or able to take the risks that are necessary to succeed in this business.

-Starting a new business venture can be a scary proposition. The best way to overcome this fear is by constantly reminding yourself of your reasons for doing it. If your reasons are not strong enough, then you might not be able to overcome your fears.

Examples of “Why?” in MLM

Every person has their own reasons for getting involved with MLM, so each person’s “Why?” might be different. However, there are some strong and common reasons why some people get involved with an MLM opportunity. These reasons will help get you through the times of doubt and will also help you convince others that it is a good opportunity:

  1. You can be your own boss
  2. You can achieve financial freedom
  3. You can make a flexible work schedule
  4. You can work from home and spend more time with your loved ones
  5. You won’t have to commute to work
  6. Your success will be dictated by your own work

These are just a few examples of reasons “Why?” you or anyone else might want to get involved with an MLM opportunity.

If you are having a hard time explaining why you wanted to get involved with MLM then you need to rethink your “Why?” By having strong reasons and goals for doing what you do you will be more confident and this confidence will help translate into more success.

Exactly, Gary. Naysayers in business and in life too. Especially when you want a better quality of life, some may not like it but in reality, it’s a direct reflection of their own failures. Thanks Gary!

  2. Hey Nate!

It’s like you read my mind! I have a blog post prepared and ready to be posted tomorrow about our “why”. It seems like such a fundamental principle that everyone should get, but we see so many people quitting the industry because so many cannot figure out their true why.

It might sound simple, but it is far from the truth. Our why is something deep within our hearts that when we do figure it out, it is something that will bring a tear to our eyes.

For example, let’s say someone mentions his why is to earn more money. It is far from even being called a why. EVERYBODY wants to make more money, but few are willing to move their ass to do what it takes to get there.

Even traveling is not a true why in my opinion. There must something that one can gain from the action of traveling, such as FINALLY being able to spend time away with the family or the vacation being a symbol to the family that they are doing well.

There are so many reasons, and it is crucial to find out what our true why is. When we find that one true answer, the why will be big enough and nothing will stand in our way.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this my friend! 🙂

      Hi Darren,

Your “why” should apply to all areas in life not just Network Marketing. You’re absolutely right, people quit in our industry because they don’t have the driving force which is their why.

If they knew their “true why”, obstacles and set backs should not be an issue to keep moving forward.

Thanks for the comments and feedback, Darren!

  3. Hey Nate,

Having a strong why and being aligned with it will keep you going even when obstacles, setbacks, and naysayers get into your way. You will take the necessary steps to build it even if it becomes a big risk. You’ll look for other options just in case things don’t go as plan. Either way it goes, you’re always looking to move forward and your why is the fuel that keeps you going!

  4. Great post and love your info found here for network marketers! Keep up the great blogging!

  5. Think through your why with care. The driver pushes you past any situation. I love being free. I love traveling the world. So I do what it takes to reach my goals and to live my dream.

Love the advice Nate. If you have a BIG enough WHY you never quit. You keep at it until you get it. You push yourself past the point where everybody else quits.

    Thanks dude!

  7. Hi Nate.

Oh it’s so important to know your “why.” We all have different reasons what motivates us to do what we do. When we know the reasons why, it is easier to communicate with others that you want to join your business opportunity.

Telling your “story” is a powerful thing. It opens us up to others in an honest way. My “why” was that I was making money and wanted to help others to do so. I also have been in my own business for years and love the lifestyle.

Once I share that, the conversation becomes more trusted because I’m sharing my why.

      Hi Donna,

Yes, if you don’t have a true purpose to why you’re doing this business or any other business for that matter, why would anyone join you?

As you know, “Facts tell, stories sell”. Stories have a great way of painting a picture and is a great way to get the prospect to understand the opportunity and see it for what it really is.

      Thanks for the comments Donna!

  8. I recently had to renew my “WHY”… It wasn’t big enough and real enough!

  9. Adam Payne says:

W why is key. Folk always talk about the what or the how, but its the why that attracts people. Simon Sinek does a good job of explaining this in his book.

And you do a great job here Nate.

  10. Liz says:

    Hi Nate,

Your why is your motivation, absolutely.

But you also bring up a good point about taking risks, if your why isn’t strong enough you won’t be in the best position to take risks and in business that’s important.

Some good food for thought here. Thanks!

    Liz

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Liz,

Exactly, because there’s no motivation if there isn’t a why to back up your desires. Your why should motivate you enough to go out and take action. Thank you for the comments. Much appreciated. 🙂

  11. Luke Blower says:

You’re so right, the strength of your why will dictate whether you can make it through rough and rocky times or not.

  12. The best way to learning is via learning, sharing real experience can be so wonderful to me.

  13. Lucy says:

My big WHY is to be my own Boss. It my be a risky decision, but I am committed to stay put because I have a reason.

    Thanks for sharing Nate
