MLM Tips: Is Integrity in MLM Network Marketing Important?

Companies that use multi-level marketing (MLM) haven’t always been the most popular and have been known to garner some negative comments over the years. With that in mind, MLM can also be a tried and true method that is when it uses integrity in the process. Let’s take a look at how important integrity is in MLM Network Marketing.

What is MLM and Network Marketing

What is Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)

In order to understand why integrity is important in MLM network marketing, we need to first look at what MLM is. The definition of MLM is actually the definition of how the compensation works as well as the distribution system. Another way to describe MLM is as referral marketing, meaning it is a marketing plan that uses word of mouth. This recommendation may be to get the word out about a store, restaurant, service, etc. Often word of mouth recommendations carry more weight among consumers than an ad they have heard on the radio or seen in a magazine as it is coming from a real person, or a “trusted source”.

Network Marketing Defined: Network Marketing is the distribution of products and services through a network of independent representatives.  Each representative is responsible to consume  a small amount of products.  And recruit others to do the same. Sales volume is generated through a lot of people each month buying and selling a small amount of products. Commissions are paid based on training new distributors and consumption of the products and services within the network.  A company offering a product or service can eliminate the need for expensive advertising campaigns. By deploying a network of distributors and also get paid for sharing products they love with others through word of mouth. Network Marketing is getting paid over and over for working one time.  Passive income and royalty income that comes in month after month

Where the negative comments come in is that people can end up making a huge amount of money through MLM or on the flip side they can lose a huge amount of money. There are stories of people losing their investments, their house, their savings, and other assets. This is why integrity in MLM network marketing is so very important.

Is Integrity in MLM Network Marketing Important

What is Integrity in MLM?

So it’s one thing to just say integrity is MLM is important but what exactly does that mean and how do you go about it? The quick answer is that integrity in MLM is simply telling the truth and being honest. This is the truth about the product, the business, the time frame, and the commitment. This truth needs to be shared with the network marketing community so that everyone is on the same page and fully aware of the facts.

It’s hard not to be swayed by the opportunity to make large amounts of money fast and all too often people end up sacrificing integrity for a fast reward. What many don’t realize is that you can have both, you can tell the truth and be upfront and still have incredible success with MLM. How can you spot the companies that don’t believe in integrity? That’s not always easy to do. Companies that boast about their product in an exaggerated way and lie about what the product will achieve for you are those who aren’t showing integrity. Weeding these companies out can be tedious but it is well worth the time if you can save yourself from getting involved with them.

A great way to go about finding those companies who don’t believe in integrity is to do your research first. Talk to others who have dealt with the company, do some online research, and find out as much as you can so you can make an informed decision. The key is to look for those who believe in integrity and practice it.

Now it’s your turn!

Do you operate your business with integrity?  Have you worked with any uplines or downlines who do not operate with integrity?  How did you deal with it?  Please feel free to share your feedback in the comments section and I look forward to reading them.

  2. Hi Nate,

Yes indeed, integrity in any business is SO important. I don’t know much about marketing or MLM network marketing or any such kind of business being a writer as such, but without integrity, I really wonder how any business can really run!

I think when you are true, honest, and portray your own-real-self to the people, they can make that out, just as you can make out a genuine one from a fake one, isn’t it? Similar is the case with any business or company that you run – this base of truth is SO important.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead πŸ™‚

  3. Integrity is key to having a long term business. Another way to look at a MLM Companies integrity is the BBB, to see how they handle complaints. Also to observe the person who should you the business opportunity. In most cases, people who have integrity will not be in business with a company that does not practice integrity.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Karl,

Yes you do bring up a good point about the BBB. You are very right my friend, most businesses will fail if integrity is not practiced! Appreciate the feedback!

I agree that integrity, regardless of your type of business, is perhaps one of, if not THE most important things to make a business successful. Integrity means that you can stand behind your work, your product, and your word. Customers will know that when you say something, you mean it. Can’t get more reliable in business than that.

  5. Julie says:

Nate, I completely agree with you. I think integrity is a key ingredient in running a business – any business. Thank you for reminding us about one of the most important character traits we can have. Great post.

  6. Hi Nate,

I remember starting cash gifting 5 years ago.

I ran into some um…real bastards lol….nasty, greedy people who were just 1 moment away from getting in real trouble.

From that moment forward I decided to put gifting in a positive light by being the high energy face of the activity.

I always wanted to act with the utmost integrity.

    Great reminder buddy!

      Hey Ryan!

It’s always good to operate from a place of integrity so that you don’t have to deal with the ‘said’ people you have mentioned. Thanks for sharing your story!

Under promise and over deliver. This is my customer service motto and how I model integrity to my clients during each interaction. In a MLM, it’s “easy” to share the success stories of the 1%. But, when acting with integrity – you can also share the averages.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Lisa,

Yes, I agree with you. There is nothing wrong with sharing small success stories. Thanks for stopping by with your comments!

I am blessed to have worked only with people with integrity. How about your past experiences, Nate?

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hey Pam,

That’s great! My past experiences in terms of integrity was one of the things I put a focus on when I decided to venture into this space. I had to be honest with myself and when people saw that it made all the difference in the world. Thanks Pam!

  9. Nomusa says:

Integrity is the backbone of all business, more so for MLM because of some dishonest people who have put a fly into the ointment. The truth about your product should be enough. If you have to lie about it then it may not be the right product.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Nomusa,

Yes, I agree. If you truly believe in the product or the opportunity, you do not have to lie about anything! Everything you say will be said with conviction. Great feedback!

  10. Arthur says:

If you don’t have integrity in your biz then you’re just fooling yourself because most likely you’re in it for a quick fix of $$ and if you want to make anything last long term you have to build trust with others in the industry!

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Arthur,

Always nice to see a new visitor. Thank you for the comments! πŸ™‚

  11. Hi,

Very good article! I do agree that without integrity, you are nothing. Well, maybe a used car salesman. You might be able to “trick” someone into joining your business but, will they ever grow a business of their own? Probably not. Who wants to duplicate sliminess? It would be a house of cards. Your integrity should be your foundation and build everything on that.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Richard,

It’s great to see a new visitor! Yes, you are very right my friend. Do not try to lie or bend the rules with your prospects because in the end you’re hurting yourself. Thank you for the comments!
