Is Enagic A Pyramid Scheme Or Scam? — The Kangen Water Truth (Updated 2024)

Direct selling (or in some cases referred to as network marketing, or MLM which is not the same business model) is an attractive business proposition to many people. It offers the opportunity to become involved in a system for distributing products to consumers.

The home-based business space continues to grow and its member companies multiply. Solicitations to join the movement seem to be everywhere. The impression accordingly grows that it is indeed the “wave of the future”, a business model that is gaining momentum, growing in acceptance and legitimacy and, as its promoters claim, will eventually replace most other forms of marketing and sales. Many are led to believe the assertions that success can be found by anyone who faithfully believes in the system and steadfastly adheres to its methods and that, eventually, all of us will become Enagic distributors.

As the convenience of working from home, having your own schedule, and being your own boss becomes more attractive, so do the opportunities to promote a direct selling company. However, not all opportunities are created equal and some might even be scams or pyramid schemes. To help you make a wise decision when it comes to work-from-home opportunities, I am going to be offering you the difference between a real scam and pyramid schemes.

Yes, you want to run your own small business from home so that you can be with the kids or your pets. Perhaps you’re heading into your senior years and feel you can’t compete with the millennials, yet you must still earn income until you retire. You may even want to have extra income to spend Christmas in the Bahamas or have a fair chance at buying that latest Tesla model.

If you’re reading this then you’re already investigating the Enagic business opportunity. Is it a scam you ask? Perhaps it’s a pyramid scheme? Let’s learn a bit more about the company, and my goal for you is that by the time you are done reading this, you’ll decide if this is a real opportunity to earn income, or if it’s a scam or pyramid scheme that people on the internet are portraying it to be.

Oh, and while you could potentially earn 5-figures or more a month (some of the big players at Enagic do after being with us for several years), we aren’t going to sugar coat it. Sorry, we are honest about it, you won’t be making that much money to start!

What Is Enagic?

Enagic is a company that has been in business for over 40 years. If you take a look at any major city, chances are they have an office near there. You may even discover that your favorite restaurant uses Kangen water.

Enagic also sells other products too, including supplements. But let’s not worry about that for the moment and learn more about Enagic.

Enagic is originated in Japan and they manufacture their own line of products, rather than selling other company’s products. They used to be a division of Sony back in 1974.

Japan was likely one of the first countries to understand the importance of water ionizer systems before they reached the North American market. Around 2000, the first modern medical-grade ionizer system was developed. Enagic began distribution in Torrance, CA.

Enagic has a team of people working together to do good in the world. Their first goal is clean, fresh, and toxin-free, alkalized water for everyone. Their distributors sell a trademarked water ionizer system around the world. The North American market is particularly lucrative, as people have better education and awareness that water nourishes life. Fresh, pure, clean water will benefit the health of you, your family, your pets, everyone.

Enagic helps their teams focus on selling these water ionizer systems to the consumer market. And no, they’re not your cheap Brita water filters you can buy at any store. Those are good for the short-term, but the plastic waste that goes into the landfills isn’t so great. We’ll better explain the water ionizer system ahead.

Who is behind Enagic?

The company is owned and run by President and CEO, Mr. Hironari Oshiro. The Enagic business has a solid foundation that is built in a Japanese market. The company has a proven product that works, and the business is not considered to be MLM, but a true direct sales program with a higher profit earning per sale.

The product is rights reserved as Kangen Water and is a registered trademark of the Enagic Company since 2003, therefore the location checks out.

What is Kangen Water?

Kangen water is made from the Kangen water ionizer system sold by Enagic. Kangen means, “Return to origin”.  The water ionizer involves moving regular tap water through a process of ionization. This creates fresh-tasting and naturally high pH-balanced water that is safe for us to drink.

There are different water ionizer systems in the line. Some are suitable for small apartments for single people, some are bigger for larger families, and some units are larger to handle vaster quantities of purified water, such as in restaurants or factories.

The water has different settings so you can make adjustments. For instance, it does cost more to have pH at a healthy human level, but if you’re just using it for cleaning, you can adjust it just for that. This also makes the water more acidic and better for killing bacteria and microorganisms on surfaces that can make people sick.

Let’s be honest. The water ionizer systems are the best, and they aren’t cheap. But they will lessen the impact of plastics on the environment. You may enjoy using your Brita filters, but don’t you feel guilty at having to toss a large chunk of plastic into the bin every month, because they aren’t even suitable for recycling?

What Types of Opportunities Does Enagic Offer?

The Enagic company has many opportunities to help people get started. The investment is minimal, so unless you want to go work for Mary Kay and buy their kit for $600, likely you’ll have a better opportunity here. Everyone drinks water, right?

The goal is to promote and share Kangen water with people who are looking for safer drinking water. There are other products you can sell, including supplements. Depending on which water ionizer system you promote to your prospect, and what level you’re at, you could potentially earn an income of $300 to $2700 per sale.

But don’t worry, as, besides commissions, there are also other opportunities with Enagic, which involve building up your team, and earning commissions on what they sell, too.

Enagic will enable you to gain leverage over time. The more team members you have, the more commissions you can earn.

Why Do People Say It’s a Scam or Pyramid Scheme?

If you’ve been doing your research (we hope you have!) you may have seen articles on the net that make Enagic out to be a bad thing. There are many Youtube videos that give Enagic a bad rap. The two main concerns are that it’s a scam or that it’s a pyramid scheme.

For one thing, Enagic is an actual company that originated in Japan. If you aren’t familiar with the country, they have a strict group of regulations in place. Trust me, you can’t build a company based on scams in Japan. Also, groups that scam are usually run by gangsters and triads, and after a few months, they take the money and run if you catch my drift!  Enagic has been around since the 70s.

As for the pyramid scheme, Enagic is not one either. That usually involves the guy at the bottom getting nothing, while the guy at the top gets everything.

Take a look at this diagram and you’ll notice that this is a corporate structure.  The CEO is on the top, doing the least amount of work, while the people on the bottom are making the least amount.  If that isn’t a pyramid scheme, I don’t know what is.  If you are in Enagic, it doesn’t matter if you are on the top of the bottom.  The Enagic compensation plan allows for everyone to win.

Let’s take a look at the differences between the two.

What’s the Definition of a Scam – Is Enagic Kangen Water Real or Scam?

The definition of scam is usually an act done by an individual or a group to defraud a person or customer out of their money. It’s done by a technique to gain their confidence first.

If you check your local city police site, they’ll likely have warnings on the latest scams. These often involve telephone calls. You may be told you owe taxes, or that your computer is failing. The tax scam involves sending money or gift cards to some guy in Nigeria. The computer scam involves them gaining remote access to your computer, then forcing you to turn over your credit card information, otherwise you’ll never get into your computer again.

A scam doesn’t involve the legitimate purchase of a product in exchange for cash. Have you ever bought an electronic item directly from China and it turned out to be a piece of crap? Well, that’s not really a scam either. Cheap junk, yes, but often a complaint to the company will net you a refund. Still not a scam.

Enagic is a legitimate company that sells high-quality water ionizer systems. These systems are guaranteed from defects for the first 30 days. At that point, it’s a no-questions-asked return/exchange for free. Each system is also backed up by a warranty and the length of the warranty depends on the machine you decided to purchase.

Last time we checked, no scam offered any guarantees or warranties!

How do you identify an ILLEGAL Pyramid scheme?

Have you ever been to college or university? This is usually one of the first places you’ll be exposed to a pyramid scheme. This involves one guy at the top. He’ll recruit a member of his team. She’ll have to fork over $100 to him. They don’t get anything in return. These partners will then recruit their own members to their team. They’ll collect $100 from each. She’ll then keep their $50 and send $50 to the guy at the top. The pyramid grows. The lower on the rung you are, the less money you get to keep when you recruit your guys. If you’re last at the base of the pyramid, unless you recruit anyone, you’ll get nothing.

As you can see, pyramid schemes are unsustainable and they are usually illegal in most countries. After a while, the guys at the top will disappear. The scheme will fall apart. Recruiting will soon become impossible and people at the bottom won’t be able to profit. Some people won’t get their initial $100 investment back.

The official definition of a pyramid scheme is a specific business model that will recruit members to their cause with the promise of cash (could be services or products too), in exchange for enrolling others into the scheme. This is in direct contrast to supplying investments or interest or providing products or services.

Pyramid schemes and scams have been around for at least a century. They may have many different forms.

Sadly, some multi-level marketing plans have been called pyramid schemes.

Why Enagic Not a Scam or Pyramid Scheme

As you can see, there is a big difference between a scam and Enagic, and even a pyramid scheme and Enagic.

For one, the governments of Japan and the USA would shut our company down pretty fast if we were either. And they keep a close eye on multi-level marketing companies too.

Enagic focuses on the sales of its products in exchange for money, therefore are a legitimate company. Yes, distributors are able to leverage and profit from each of their organization’s sales, but that is a direct sales business model such as Mary Kay, Avon, Scentsy, and many others ‘work from home’ businesses.

Closing Thoughts

In closing, I wanted you to be aware that I’m an independent Enagic distributor. I bought my first Enagic machine back in 2006, so I can assure you that Enagic isn’t running a scam or pyramid scheme here.

This post was not designed to lure you to sign up with me.  I wanted to help people understand what scams and pyramid schemes are.  10 out of 10 people have no clear idea of what either of them is.  Most of the assumptions that they make are dead wrong.

Despite what you may have read on Google or watched on Youtube, Enagic is a real company. They are a legitimate direct selling company that provides a lucrative compensation plan for its distributors.

Why the negativity in our marketplace? Because our competition chooses to waste their time bringing us down while they sell their own products or financial gain. It’s as simple as that. It’s a lot like politics! The good guys are the ones who support everyone. We hope that our ideal prospects who are looking to join Enagic can make a more informed choice.

    Hi,
I’d like to inquire about online distributor digital marketing. I’ve been trying to become a distributor.I’ve been told to buy trifecta of K8 and two other products and as I find new members, I’d earn huge commissions.

Please respond to me so that I can decide on whether to buy the products and become a distributor through their channel.

    Thank u!

  6. Frank Eramo says:

I have a friend who has been a distributor since October. He MAY have sold one.
Then I see a guy who earned $39,000 in one month. Not sure
how many one would have to sell to earn that much.
I thought about becoming a distributor, but I don’t have
    $2,500 to pay for one.
That is a lot of money to invest in HOPES of making a return.

    • Nate Leung says:

It’s not when you think about how much the average person pays for bottled water over a lifetime, not to mention that it’s not exactly safe to drink.

Making a return is one way to look at it but the true investment in your health.

When you factor in $2,500 versus the longevity of your health, you cannot debate that it’s expensive.

The business of Enagic is a bonus.

  7. Purna says:

Wonderful clear information. Thank you very much. I would like to know more to be distributor.

Hi I’ve been doing lots of research into this company and the merits of whether it is legitimate or not. Could you give a breakdown of how making money with this company works? Also is it true that I can recruit people to work under me and that would therefore increase my own profits? Additionally will I have to figure out how to set up my yearly taxes as a private contractor or will I be considered an employee of Enagic. Great article i can’t wait for your response!

  11. Ernesto A. Ayudan, Sr. says:

It will be my way of knowing and deepening the credibility of a KANGEN machine. I might as well opening a little Alkaline Kangen Source in my place not just to profit but to help also.
The price is big, yet it can be a good investment for my family’s health.

    Hi Nate,

Thank you so much for this information. I just have a question though, is there any way to reach 2A other than getting 2 direct sales? I’m really working on getting the trifecta but my financial situation at the moment makes it impossible to do so. If I will only get the Ukon, will I get stuck there until I get the sales?

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Tine,

It’s either you get the trifecta to be 2A on your next direct sale or three direct sales to become 2A.

  22. Thery Ann Lowton says:

Thank you Nate Leung for your blog that explains enagic. I am a new enagic distributor but my husband, family and friends are not happy that I join since they believed that enagic is a pyramid scheme and a scam company. Even though I explained to them that this is legitimate company and as soon as I have a commission or earnings, I will be paying my taxes for this. It’s hard to convince the people that there brain is already brainwashed by all the bad news or blogs from other companies or people online. They did a research just I did, but all are bad reviews. Your blog is the only one of the information that explains all of this. Through your blog, I will be able to show to them that this is different. Thank you.
