How To Use Ionized Water For Disinfecting (Updated 2020)

If you’re just using your water ionizer to produce alkaline water for drinking you are missing out on the “household cleaning” benefits you have available right at your tap.

Both alkaline and acidic ionized water can be used for cleaning and sanitizing.

Most people are aware of the benefits of drinking alkaline water.

Many others know that the acidic water produced by most water ionizers can be used for treating a variety of skin conditions, including emergency first aid for burns and cuts.

Many people are still unaware that a water ionizer can also produce water suitable for many household cleaning purposes.

Uses for Alkaline Water

Alkaline water produced in the highest settings is a powerful cleaner. The same properties that draw toxins from the body can also draw dirt, oils, and stains from fabrics. Carpets, clothing, furniture – when applied, alkaline water can draw out the stain.

On carpets, saturate the stained area with alkaline water then use a clean cloth to dry the area. Pressing firmly or ‘dabbing’ the area will draw the alkaline water and the stain into the cloth. Traditional carpet cleaning solutions leave chemical residues in the carpet fibers which continue to pick up dirt. If you’ve ever used this type of product to treat a carpet stain you know that often that treated area actually gets dirty faster than the surrounding areas. This is because the chemical residue continues to attract dirt to that one area.

Alkaline water is just water. No chemicals – any dampness left after you have cleaned a stain will evaporate leaving no residue. Once the area has been cleaned it stays as clean as the rest of your carpet. No chemical residue worries for your pets or children.

The same method can be used for removing stains from furniture and clothing. Dampen the soiled area with strong alkaline water and soak up the stain with a clean cloth. For clothing, rinsing the area with strong alkaline water will help rinse away the stain.

Disinfecting

There are two accepted methods for disinfecting surfaces. One is “removal” which involves removing any germs or bacteria from the surface. The other is “killing” which involves killing bacteria.

For “removal” disinfecting, spray the area with strong alkaline water. Again, just as the water absorbs toxins from your body, its low surface tension also absorbs contaminants on household surfaces. Wiping the area dry with a clean cloth after spraying with strong alkaline water can remove 99% of germs and bacteria.

If you have a water ionizer powerful enough to produce acidic water at a 2.5 or lower pH, this water can kill most germs and bacteria on contact. Spray the area with strong acidic water then wipe clean. If your water ionizer doesn’t quite reach the 2.5 pH level, you can still use acidic water for disinfecting. The milder acidic water won’t kill on contact. You’ll need to allow it to sit for a couple of minutes to kill the germs and bacteria before wiping the area dry.

Topical uses for acidic ionized water

The antioxidant and healthful benefits of alkaline ionized water have been widely known for decades. You may have even heard from a friend or acquaintance how beneficial the water ionizer has been in their life. An often overlooked aspect of water ionizers is the use of acidic ionized water for topical sterilization and its antibacterial properties.

The potential for water ionizers to reach strong acidity levels enables them to provide beneficial uses on a range of surfaces to kill bacteria and viruses. Below represents a list of popular applications you can use the acidic water from your ionizer for.  These are often overlooked because people are mostly concerned with alkaline water health benefits as opposed to the applications of acidic water from ionizers.

Dentistry and disinfecting the mouth with acidic water

Water ionizers are great for sterilizing objects that represent an area of high bacterial growth. The main job of a toothbrush is to cleanse the teeth and mouth of bacteria and plaque. Even though some people switch out their toothbrushes frequently, bacteria are still harvested on the bristles of a toothbrush after every use! Ionizers are great for a quick stream of acidic water on the toothbrush to kill the bacteria off before use. Much like a mouthwash, the acidic water can be gargled for similar effects on bacteria already in the mouth.

Washing and rinsing dishes and the sponge with acidic ionized water

It has become fairly widely known that the kitchen sponge harvests the most bacteria out of any object in the house. Considering it is the object that is supposed to clean the objects you eat and drink out of, this can be a worrying dilemma. Rinsing the sponge with acidic ionized water will effectively kill the bacteria growing on your sponge.

Sometimes the dishes do not have to go through the dishwasher. If you are looking for a quick hand rinse, your water ionizer is far more capable of providing a green natural antibacterial cleanser since you can rinse them with acidic water and ensure they are clean and bacteria-free for another use.

Watering Plants with acidic ionized water

Giving your plants slight acidic ionized water of a PH around 5.0 to 5.5 will greatly improve the speed of their growth as well as their fruitfulness.  Check out the benefits of acidic ionized water for plants.

Hands

Bacteria and viruses live on the skin and we are increasingly coming into contact with more objects and more people. Cellphones, door handles, and many other seemingly innocuous objects are potential sites for infection. You can ensure a more sanitary rinse if you use to wash your hands with acidic water in combination with hand sanitizer or hand soap.

Face

Depending on your skincare regimen, you may be interested to try the benefits of ionized water for cosmetic reasons. Acidic water is a great astringent for keeping a youthful appearance and shedding dead skin cells. Besides exfoliating, you can be more assured your face is cleaner.

Killing bacteria and removing pesticides from fruit and vegetables with 11.5 strong ionized water

Besides cleaning and removing pesticide residue, you will know with certainty that your fruits and vegetables do not have bacteria on them if you wash them with this water. You can use acidic ionized water to disinfect fruits and vegetables naturally without chemical soaps or other chemicals.

If you are rinsing your fruits and vegetables with tap water you are still drinking chlorine and other chemicals in the water, in addition, tap water is not a good antibacterial agent. Acidic ionized water is a natural disinfectant, it kills bacteria with its strong acidic pH.

Washing fruits and vegetables are something most people already do. Whether the fruits and vegetables are organic and pesticide-free or not, you cannot always guarantee the microbial conditions on the surface of your food. Washing food with low 3.3 pH acidic water kills bacteria on the surfaces of the fruits and vegetables you eat.
