How To Use Content Marketing For Your Business

The expanding world of multilevel marketing has basically followed the same blueprint over the years, regardless of what you are selling or for which company you are working.  The formula for success is the same across the board, which is why there are so many people that try to get involved but relatively few (in comparison) are able to pave their way towards long-term success making a substantial living.  Advanced technology and the increasing popularity of the Internet, though, have allowed more people that work within the MLM system to achieve monumental levels of success simply by focusing on content marketing online.  How can you use content marketing to take your MLM business to the next level?

How to Use Content Marketing for Your Business

The Tale of Two Elements

Keep in mind that MLM has two key elements that play significant roles in an individual’s overall success – direct sales and recruitment.  In most cases, direct sales are what generate the majority of the commissions that are paid out.  On the other hand, the recruitment side of this equation allows you to build your organization, creating a consistent flow of residual income based on overrides and bonuses from your team and truly focus on leveraging the efforts of your organization into a long-term business opportunity.  Therefore, if you want to use content marketing for your MLM business, it is imperative that you focus on addressing both of these elements effectively.

The Element of Direct Sales

In order to boost your number of direct sales in your MLM business, focus on developing quality content that will captivate the attention of your key demographic.  The goal should be to have articles that connect indirectly to the product but directly to the consumer.  If your consumers get the idea that you just have a bunch of sales articles and promotional content, they will stay as far away from your website and your e-mails as possible.  However, if you choose a catchy topic that is related to your niche overall, then you cleverly promote your products and services from within the actual content.  For example, if you are selling cosmetic products you can write an article on the top five ways to enhance your natural beauty.  Do NOT write an article about why consumers should buy specific products.

The Element of Recruitment

When focusing on the recruitment side of the MLM business, you need to develop content marketing that hones in on the overall employment crisis.  Discuss the overwhelming statistics of people that currently do not have a job at all, but primarily focus on the people that are not happy with the jobs that they already have. You need to heavily promote the idea of being able to work your own flexible schedule from home while having unlimited income potential because those are two biggest selling points used to recruit people into the world of multilevel marketing.  Use the same principle as discussed above when it comes to indirectly address your specific company because you want to be able to effectively lure the fish in with the bait before they are able to see the hook.

We use a bit of content marketing, yes, but it’s not always successful, as we have a specialized insurance product. However, successful in obtaining new business or not, we are increasing our “cyber footprint”, so that’s good!

  4. Nate –
Really sound advice on creating content. I agree that a site that is all sales copy is off-putting. Your suggestion of writing content that relates to needs of the audience is right on target. I’ll be sure to share this with my friends that are in direct sales.

  5. Great tips. Great content is so important for any business, big or small. I use it to help mine and write it for many other businesses. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Nate,

I would say that I’m getting better at content marketing. While I’m not in an MLM business, I am a writer, coach, and soon to be speaker. Same principles apply.

    thanks,
    Peggy

Some really good advice here! Athough, I don’t run a business…

  8. Content marketing is a great avenue for Network Marketers to get exposure. So many companies have been successful at it, e.g. Coca-Cola, John Deere, Lego. Content marketing has been around for a very long time. It is about providing value to your audience. I learning more about content marketing each day. Great job Nate, on how to execute content marketing within the MLM Industry.

      Hi Karl,

Content marketing is another great way to build your network marketing business like you said. If all of the big major companies use it, why not use it for network marketing? I agree with you there. Thanks for the comments!

    Hi Nate,

I really need to learn how to do this better. The content is not the problem, it’s my marketing. Thanks for this.

  10. Nate, you are the king of content marketing!

  11. Hey Nate,

You touched upon some great points when it comes to content marketing. Coming from an indirect approach works wonders.

I liked that you mentioned about promoting within the content and the example of using cosmetics and writing an article on 5 ways to enhance your beauty. This is classic and a great way to draw your audience in.

Also promoting the idea of working a very flexible schedule producing an unlimited amount of income is very attractive. Its one of the top reasons why people would ever be interested in opportunities like this! Another great one Nate!

Good stuff as always, Nate. I think – especially in MLM – attracting a following that connects with you is key, and the right content – honest, from the heart content – is the way to do it. I’m saddened by how many blogs I’ve seen lately that are simply cut/pasted from somewhere else.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Kelly,

Yes, indeed. The lazy bloggers who copy and paste content onto their blog. They also wonder why they are not getting the results they desire. I always believed in doing things the honest and good ol’ fashion way. Thank you for the comments!

  13. Nate,

You have explained so well how content marketing works. If your articles are all promotional, people will click and run. On the other hand, if you are giving good content and helping people BINGO! You have your followers.

From there a relationship is born. Then we get to know one another and the recruitment begins. That old Know Like And Trust You never fails.

Besides, I rather have people come to me than me chasing them. It works out just fine.

      Hi Donna,

Yes, it’s the value that you give to people that will get them to come back for more. I wholeheartedly believe in this philosophy of giving value. Like you, having people chase you and want what you have is always the best option. Thank you for the comments!

  14. Cindy Eidahl says:

Great article Nate, I like the idea of choosing a catchy topic within my niche and then promoting my product/service within that. Maybe doing an artilce on how to do this would be helpful. Thanks again Nate!

  15. Ryan Biddulph says:

Nate, indirectly to your product but directly to the customer, and their needs. Brilliant man, brilliant. Attract. Include clear calls, let people know what you are selling by please appeal to their hopes, their dreams, their pain points, to use content marketing effectively.

    Thanks dude!

Great ideas for connecting and presenting in a way that people will be interested in seeing versus driven away.

  17. Hi Nate. This is an informative post post. Just don’t get it exactly how to build a MLM company over the internet. I have been in this industry app. 15 years ago, but it only worked for me when doing one on one presentations. Through internet marketing, I would like to know how MLM can be successful.
