How To Reach Success While Battling Frustration

One of the greatest hurdles a person can face while on course to success, whether in personal or professional life is frustration. It is one of the major menaces that the world faces today. It slowly takes the toll on you and brings down your happiness, eliminates the joy form your life, makes it gloomy and decreases your potential for success.

The fact cannot be denied that frustration has become a part of our lives. There is no one in this world who isn’t depressed about something, therefore, all we can do is find ways to deal with it and cope with it in such a way that we manage to achieve success in our venture despite being frustrated.

Below, I will discuss with you the 7 steps you can take to reach success whilst battling frustration.

How To Reach Success While Battling Frustration

1. Avoid Feeding It:

One of the best things you can do to minimize the impact of frustration is to stop feeding it. Frustration is like a snowball effect that gathers more snow as it rolls down, therefore, the more you feed it with negative thoughts and feelings it will grow more on you till you have nothing but frustration in your life. Therefore, instead of feeding negative thoughts, fear and doubts to it, counter it with positive thoughts that minimize its impact. For instance, if you are a business owner, then instead of being frustrated about how you are going to manage the thing, you must focus on what bounties will the management of things properly will bring to you, it will keep you motivated to the task.

2. Focus:

The reason why frustration stands as a hurdle in you achieving success is the fact that it makes you lose focus, thus, the more you lose focus, the more will you get frustrated and the destination of success would seem even farther. Therefore, it is imperative that you keep focus and one way of doing so is by living in the moment. If the management of the business depresses you, then the countermeasure you can take is to focus on the activity you are doing and finding ways by which the activity can be performed in the best way possible. Focusing on the present moment will help you move forward to your destination of success whilst combating frustration on the way.

3. Exercise:

It seems odd that you are frustrated and you go out to run in the park or hit the gym, but the amazing fact is that exercise actually helps you fight frustration. Endorphins are the happy hormones that are produced as a result of exercise, and it also suppresses the production of stress-inducing hormones as well. As far as the relation of exercise with success is concerned, if your body is healthy you are better able to exert maximum efforts while managing your business, which ultimately takes you to the destination of success.

4. Enjoy Small Successes:

Another great and effective way of battling frustration whilst staying motivated towards the goal of success is enjoying small successes. When you are able to enjoy small successes, you take your mind off from whatever is depressing you in addition to keeping yourself motivated towards the bigger and ultimate goal. Therefore, enjoy every small sale your business makes, or any new client, who knows that a single sale or new client can be the silver lining that you need to step it up and achieve success.

5. Don’t Just Sit:

When we feel frustrated most of us go in isolation and sit or lie down like forever. It is one of the major contributors to the increase in frustration. When you just sit and do nothing else, then your mind has only one direction and it only moves in that direction of frustration. On the other hand, if you take on some task as simple as taking a walk or going out to eat something, it helps take your mind off from whatever is haunting you.

6. Be Social:

Further to the common strategy adopted by most of us when we are frustrated is that we go into isolation and shut all other people out. This is wrong and this works as fuel on the fire and increases the frustration exponentially. Therefore, the right way of dealing with it is by being social and sharing quality time with people that help you take your mind away from depressive thoughts. For instance, when successful entrepreneurs touch on frustration align yourself with others who understand what you’re going through and share your thoughts and feelings about what is bothering you. This is a good way of keeping yourself motivated and your mind off from frustrating thoughts.

7. Don’t Be Perfect:

The major reason why people get frustrated is that they try to do everything perfectly, and when don’t achieve the level of perfection, which they expect them to achieve, they get frustrated. Therefore, the best way of dealing with frustration is to accept the fact that there will be mistakes and their existence is but natural.

Now It’s Your Turn!

Is frustration a problem with you as well? How do you combat it? What are the things you do to avoid it and what are the ones that help you minimize its intensity? I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

As for me, being social and not just lying down is the most important weapon in battling frustration. Many times i get frustrated at work. Some times i am like “what the hell am i doing here”. On such days, i take a short break and have a light chat with my friend or my mum. It helps me relax and not to get frustrated. 🙂

    • Nate Leung says:

What it boils down to is sometimes you do need to decompress and take a short break. Anything that will help to get your energy level back.

  6. Hi Nate,

The worst thing about frustration is that it leads to inaction. Once you stop moving forward, you’re pretty much done. I have to agree with the previous commenter that #5 is the most important one. Keep moving. Don’t worry about making mistakes, as we all make them. You can correct them as you go. Good luck!

These are great tips. Exercise and choosing to focus on the things that are going right are the ways I deal with frustration. I’ve found the cure for frustration, fear, and disappointment is the same- taking action towards the outcome you want! Baby steps.

    • Nate Leung says:

Baby steps is the best way to go. Be consistent and take daily action. Make it happen Nicole. 🙂

    Hello Nate,

Frustration seems to be something that is self fueling or a self sustained feeling. It seems to get worse before it gets better. The key to reversing the process is recognizing that it is fueling itself and take away the things that spark it. Start thinking more positively rather than negative is a great tip here. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Great post. I can relate to the snowball effect. Sometimes just getting up and walking away from the problem for a while and come back and you will almost instantly see a way to solve the problem.

Just try to remember to get up and walk away before the frustration gets too bad.

    Have a great day.

  10. Yet again a wonderful post.. i think i must confess that i love this article, because it teaches so many things. on a more serious note, frustration is a serious issue to tackle because it’s no respecter of anybody.

i strongly support you when you mention exercise, i see it as a way to free ones mind and let go of the bad things or happenings.

  11. Awesome value here Nate! Thank you for sharing!!! Love reading your posts!!

  12. When I’m frustrated I try to take a break or just walk away and do something else for awhile. When I come back to the project I am able to view it in a new way, oftentimes. Thanks, Nate~

    • Nate Leung says:

Breaking up the routine by walking is a great way to relieve frustration and stress. Thank you for the comments!

  13. Love it Nate! I am learning more and more to just let go and take a walk or meditate to get recharged! Wendy

  14. Hey Nate,

Many of times I have felt frustrated. It even gotten to the point to where I felt trapped. I couldn’t even think positive. But there are three things that really get me over. 1, I go for a while listening to good music. 2, I go work out which even opens me for 3., to look at other options that I can look into to get me out of this hole and 4, I do have to say that listening to Abraham Hicks really helped me out quite a bit. Thanks for sharing!

  15. This is really helpful. It gives me some ideas on how to eliminate frustration. Overthinking gives me frustration sometimes and also pressure at the same time. Thanks for sharing this

  16. Hello Nate. Thank you for the positive, uplifting article. “Don’t be perfect” is the perfect advice! Also what you say about just doing something and not falling into the trap of isolating or sitting still – losing momentum.

You’ve definitely hit the nail on the head, whether it’s marketing or writing a book!

  17. Nate, thanks for your article. One of the biggest areas of frustration for me in business is wanting to have everything ‘just so’. The website updated, the forms done, the yada yada yada and the list goes on. I mistakenly think sometimes that I have to have everything perfect. In reality, it’s okay to fly the plane while building it:-) I’ve made significant strides in this thinking, yet, every now and then the perfection bug wants to come out and play.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Tandy,

Trying to be perfect can be our biggest downfall. Sometimes it can paralyze us from taking action. Great comment Tandy!

  18. agree with all the points here

  19. Excellent list… the one that stands out for me is – not “feeding” the frustration. This is easy to do yet the hardest because one thing can go wrong and the next thing everything goes wrong. So approach one thing at a time. But changing your activity like exercising, doing something different, even listening to some upbeat music can shift a state of mind … nice post

  20. Greg Mock says:

I like the idea of exercising to get rid of the frustrated or stuck feeling. Sometime just that blood flow putting more oxygen into your brain changes everything.

  21. Alanna says:

Exercise helps me a lot get rid of frustration!! Another awesome post, Nate! Thank you!!

    Very well written!

  23. Sagar Desai says:

    Hey Nate,

One more excellent article from you. Being social with friend really gives me strength to battle with any kind of frustration. Many mistakes done by us any we are feeling sad about it. I like to convince myself as I am not the God to do everything perfectly.
This way we can be happy and reduce the frustrations.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Sagar,

One of the biggest ways to become frustrated is try to be ‘perfect’. We can never be perfect nor will we ever be. Appreciate the comments!

    Hi Nate,

I like the point you raised with respect to enjoying small successes.

Many tend to undermine small successes and always want those big mega successes but that of course shouldn’t be the case.

    • Nate Leung says:

Yes that is very true. Small success are often over looked. That is where it starts. Everyone focuses on the end result and the glory but never the story. Thanks for the comments!

  26. Mike Marryat says:

Great tips Nate! It’s all about what you focus on. I find if I tell myself I am going to go through struggles or know everything is not going to be perfect….it makes going through the tough times easier!

    • Nate Leung says:

Keep it moving, and keep taking action. There will be obstacles ahead but it’s how you deal with the obstacles that count. Appreciate you sharing!

  27. Yes, exercise and connecting to other people, I like you mentioned this. It is powerful against frustration, it works for me 🙂 Thank you, Nate!

  28. Hey Nate,

It’s all about the small successes! Mini break-throughs and small success is what helps you achieve bigger goals!
