How To Break The Shackles And Escape the Rat Race

Anyone around you who is pursuing some endless objective and that to any same person seems futile is definitely a contender in the rat race. The mere analogy must be a wakeup call for all those who are a part of it, however, people turn from the facts, and like rats in a race are ignorant of the fact that all their efforts are pointless and lead to no escape route.

All your fellow colleagues and friends who have been doing their jobs for years, despite the fact that they hate their jobs are a perfect example of people being a part of the rat race. They despite all their displeasure find themselves compelled to compete and work tirelessly without any hope at the end of the tunnel. The lines below explain how you can break all the barriers and get out of the rat race.

MLM Rat Race

Don’t Procrastinate:

The first and pivotal tip for breaking the shackles and getting out of the miserable rat race is to take the initiative and quit procrastination. it is our procrastination that makes us ignore the amazing idea we have, and due to this ignorance, that idea is cashed by any other individual for whom the idea lays eggs of gold. For instance, instead of being a part of the rat race, is what you need to do to come up with your amazing or unique business. Hence, whenever you hit some idea, especially if it’s digital in nature, then pursue it or else you will be rat-like other working the same standard job.

Take The Initiative:

The second thing required after letting go of procrastination is to take the initiative. The reason why most people aren’t able to take the initiative and pursue their dream is that they have fears. Although being fearful is an integral part of pursuing a dream, however, if you succeed in your dream it will be worth it, and if not then you can add another page to your experience book and go back to some old same job, which you did before the initiative. As is said, “It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.” Therefore, escaping the rat race requires taking the initiative by going out of the comfort zone.

Go Slow:

The biggest reason why people fear trying to escape from the rat race is the failure of other people who tried to do so. You must realize that the biggest mistake, which people make, is that they go all out instead of going slow and taking one thing on at a time. For instance, if for breaking rat race is your choice, and then instead of quitting your job and setting up your online business without any planning, the right way is to start your business in part-time. This way, you will have a job that will support your finances, whilst you pursue your dream in the later hours of the day. Once, your dream has grown into a full tree, and then you can quit your job. Thus, approaching things slowly and wisely reduces the chances of failure.

Limit Yourself:

Pursuing a dream comes with great limitations that you have to impose on yourself. Again considering the example of a person for whom to escape rat race is the only resort, then for such a person finances are of great importance. An online business can be digital but it still requires money to run. Therefore, spending extra money on lunch and coffee, or going out with friends on weekends won’t cut it for such an entrepreneur; rather, he or she will have to sacrifice these small things for the greater glory. Hence, to escape the rat race you will have to practice limitations in certain areas and aspects of your life.

MLM Time Management

Time Management:

Perhaps the only requisite in pursuing dreams and objectives of all types is time management. The reason why most of the people working in their dream jobs are also considered a part of the rat race is that they are immersed with work only and have no or limited social life. There is no point in having a dream job when the only thing you do is work and there is no one around you to share your success. Therefore, the most important thing you need to learn in order to escape the rat race is to manage time. The better you manage time, the better will you be able to pursue your dream and then enjoy its bounties.

  1. Nate, I think people have a hard time practicing delayed gratification. Early on in my career, I did not appreciate delayed gratification or seeing the big picture in what I am pursuing. You were right on in stating taking the initiative. There is a saying out there that the grave yard has a lot of people with their song still with them. That the grave yard is one of the wealthiest place on earth. It is full of so many people that never took initiative. Nate, you did a great job in giving people a gentle push in pursing their dreams.

  2. Although I am part of an MLM company I don’t follow any MLM rules – I just hate to recruit new people bla bla bla. Surely I chose one where I am not pushed to do these things and I’m happy. i like the products and if friends join or buy from me that’s great as well 🙂

      Hi Erzsebet,

If you plan on being successful in your MLM business, recruiting is part of the business model. You have to focus on getting better at recruiting if you plan on staying in the MLM game. Just like anything else in life, you have to learn and implement. Once you do that, you will see that recruiting gets easier. Thank you for the comments!

Being caught in the rat race is exhausting and depressing. Working hard every day and not being where you want to be or doing what you wish you could be doing, makes you feel like you need a magic genie to help you escape your real life.

    Nate,

I guess in my own words this article means that the time is now to make change for what you want specifically in life. The idea of the rat race is the things that stop us from ever getting there.

    If not now, then when?

    Good stuff,

    Jason

Nate: Since you are such a social networking pro. Love what you said about the rat race. Completely agree with you here!

  6. Cindy says:

Great post Nate, these 5 tips are pivotal to moving forward in any aspect of life, especially breaking free from the rat race… We get stuck and having direction is always so helpful.

    • Nate Leung says:

Yes, having direction, a clear idea of what it is that you want and taking action. Thanks Cindy!

  7. Nope! I’m not in that rat race…but I WAS. YUCKY! When people want out and look to MLM for an alternative, they forget that growing a business will take time. When it doesn’t work in 90 days or less, they give up. So I like your tip about “Going slow” and pacing yourself. It took years to get to a decent paying JOB, and it just might take years to break through in MLM. BUT IT IS WORTH IT! Totally worth it!

      Hi Stefani,

Yes, and it also applies to all areas in life. Any thing that you want, it is a process. Once people realize this, then things will start to happen in their life. Thanks for the comments!

  8. Katrina says:

I love the term “rat race”… it’s so perfect! It’s easy to make the decision, not so much to make the commitment. Great post!!!

  9. Hey Nate,

You made some excellent points here. People do want to get out of the rat race but don’t make the initiative to do so. When it all comes down to it, it starts with the mindset. When you have a strong mindset geared towards getting out of the rat race, you will look for anything possible to do so!

    Great post!

  10. PJ Moore says:

Great advice Nate. Taking it slow and being realistic about the time it will take to build a sustainable MLM business is right on. Lack of realistic expectations can discourage and bring a new entrepreneur to the point of quitting on their dream life. Consistence and persistence are absolutely necessary along with having fun on their journey.

Great article. I had to get out of the rat race a year ago due to health reasons and I am glad I did. It was scary at the time to make the change and I still struggle at times but I keep moving forward and don’t look back. Thank you for sharing

    • Nate Leung says:

That’s awesome that you’re moving forward Cindy. The sad reality is that too many people hold onto their past and stay stuck in the past versus moving forward. Thank you for the comments!

  13. Love this post Nate! Fantastic value! Thank you for sharing!!! Some important key points here…..

  14. Nomusa says:

Procrastination is the thief of time. When people procrastinate they tell themselves they can not do what will bring about their dream because they do not have the time. When you really look at it most of their time is wasted on trivial pursuits. Thanks for the reminder Nate.

  15. Kris says:

Thanks for the information Nate. Procrastination can drain all the life out of ya. I really appreciate all your reminders to take action in the face of it.

  16. This is an important message when so many hate the jobs they have and hate the paycheck of the job they hate. Good job Nate!

  17. Somer Nelson says:

So many people hate their jobs and complain everyday but do not do anything about it. This is a great article

    • Nate Leung says:

They stay stuck and don’t go after what it is that they truly want. Thanks Somer!

  18. Interesting article with plenty of good points to consider. I think all of us would love to break free from the rat race. The staying in a job you hate rings a bell.

    Thanks for sharing.

  19. Ron says:

Another great post. Now if folks would take the advice to heart, embrace it and take massive action.

I left the rat race of a job over 13 years ago and it was one of the best days of my life. Walking out that door for the last time was an incredible feeling.

One thing I would like to add is that mindset is also SO very important. As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”

When I started online, I built up the belief that I would do it and it would work. 100%. It worked for me. Though I didn’t go slow, but every one has their comfort zone.

    Thanks again for the post.

    • Nate Leung says:

That’s awesome Ron. I’m sure that was an empowering moment for you. Most people want it but their not willing to go after it. Thanks for sharing that Ron!

  20. Shanelle says:

Great Advice as Always Nate Leung!

  21. Arleen says:

I broke away from the rat race and started my own business. With that said you can still be guilty of procrastination. There is an old saying. You snooze you lose. To help with procrastination I am finding taking breaks from what I am doing helps to kick start the juices again. If you want to start getting ROI you need to work on gaining control of social media. This is where I struggle and procrastinate. I know the importance for SEO purposes. The best advice you gave it to take it slow. This way you do not get overwelmed.

    • Nate Leung says:

Exactly, take it slow, take action every day and get results. Being overwhelmed is when people want to do everything at once. But the reality is that everything in life is a process. There’s a famous saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. This applies to that. Thanks for the comments!
