How To Brand Yourself – Humanizing Your Business- Part 2

In the previous post of this series, I discussed with you the three primary ways in which you can brand yourself by adopting the approach of humanizing your business. This post is the second part of the series and in this post as well I’ll discuss with you three more tips or methods which you can adopt to progress in branding your business by humanizing it.

Man Photographing Himself

Videos and Podcasts:

Although there is no denying the importance of writing as a means of sharing information and telling the customers about the business, however, people these days are fonder of watching than reading. Therefore, if you wish to tell the human side of your business to the customers, then the best way of doing so these days is by making videos and Podcasts and then sharing it with the customers or target audience. No matter what kind of videos you make, they will always have the human element in them whether in the form of voice over, images, or real-life videos. Therefore, to brand yourself in the most effective way and humanize your business, make sure that making videos and Podcasts in your priority list of marketing the business.

Authorship:

Another great way of branding yourself by humanizing your business is by being an author and writing a book. I know that most of us think that we are incapable of writing, let alone writing a book. But let me tell you one thing if you really know your business and if you really want your customers to know about your business then writing a book is not a problem and you will do it with ease. When you write a book, it gives multiple messages to the customers.

The first message it gives to them is that there is a person behind the business, meaning that the business is not just transactions, productions or the product, rather there is a human on the other side of the product as well. The second message that goes to the customers of the business if you write a book is that they come to realize and believe that you have an understanding of the business you are in, meaning that they will get to know you and would come to the conclusion that you know what you are doing, thus it would increase their trust on the business.

Day To Day Operations:

Another great way of branding yourself by humanizing your business is by sharing your day to day operations with your customers and target audience. What customers are most interested in these days is how things get done and how the people in the business care about do their daily activities and chores. Therefore, in order to provide such information to the concerned people, you can share your day to day activities with them. The best platform you can use in this regard is Twitter, however, you can also use Instagram and Facebook to let your target audience know about how you carry out your day. The need for sharing day to day operations increases if you are offering a service such as being a consultant or a mentor where people look up to you. Therefore, in order to humanize your business, it is imperative that your target audience knows about how you conduct your daily operations.

    Hey Nate,

Another great read… video is a great way to express your true self. People get to see that there is a real person behind the business, humanizing the experience as you mentioned.

I still haven’t done much with video, but I realize that I need to keep up with the times and present it more often than I have.

Thanks again for a great message…

  11. My thoughts: First, day to day operations. I’ve seen local businesses set up a Facebook page, write a post for example a you-pick fruit operation posted “we are picking apples today” but when customers asked questions like “what hours today?” “When will your raspberries be ready? and – no response. No interaction. Twitter – I’ve seen the same thing. The “day to day” operations, if on social media, really need to be interactive, not one way. Otherwise, why utilize social media? Next, writing a book – a motivational speaker visited where I worked and gave us all a copy of one of his books. I overheard a number of comments about how poorly formatted and edited it was. It destroyed the impact of his talk, which was universally praised by all who attended. So, these are all good ideas – but if not executed well, they can do the business a lot more harm than good. I think the businessowner should pick what he/she is most comfortable, not something “just because it’s a good thing to do.”

  12. I love the tip about day to day activities. I know that when you share that, it creates more of a personal connection. Great article as usual Nate. Your blog always has so much value in it.

Great points – I just experienced a great comment with regard to using Audio. Here’s an excerpt: “When I started reading I didn’t realize you would be talking about… The audio was terrific at bringing home the concept, especially through the examples. …. Thanks for the wake-up call!”

Audio and Video work. We can explain ourselves so much better “live” and it help people connect with us.

    Great points Nate.
