How To Cultivate Your Entrepreneur Mindset Into Success

A winning mindset allows you to persist even when defeat looks like a realistic outcome. People with a winning mindset are much clearer about the process to reach their goals. They are not afraid of failure as long as they believe that they’re doing the right thing. That’s the difference between winners and losers.

Allow me to ask you a few questions…

✅ Are you unhappy in life?

✅ Do you need change?

✅ Are you sick of going every day to a job that you hate, with a boss or coworkers who drive you crazy?

✅ Are you tired of being broke and living paycheck to paycheck?

✅ Do you resent being told what to do and when to do it?

✅ Or doing things you might not agree with but have to do anyway?

✅ Would you prefer to invest in yourself rather than give your time to someone else?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are in the position to better your life.

You deserve it, and you can give yourself permission to do so.

Only you can make the change toward freedom from the nine-to-five—toward living a life of abundance—while knowing that you are helping others as you help yourself.

Why mindset is everything and doing the work is only a small part of success.

Consider the Pareto principle, also known as the 80/20 rule.

Have you noticed that 20 percent of your activities account for 80 percent of your results?

How much better could your business be if you centered your focus on that 20 percent?

Owning an online business and running it, is a daily process that you need to be consistent with. There will be ups and downs. You must set your sights on outcomes and results.

Find the methods that produce the best result and keep pushing forward even when you falter, even when you fail.

You decide if you want your business to succeed and keep that answer in front of you at all times.

If your purpose—your ‘Why’—is not big enough, you won’t have the motivation to get over the low points. Your ‘Why’ is your purpose statement. It is the goal that you reach for to succeed. As you keep your eye on the prize and understand that your plan is a long-term strategy, you’ll never be frustrated or disappointed when things aren’t perfect.

Surround yourself with people who will encourage and support you. Having a Positive mindset is a force to be reckoned with.

Find a mentor who truly wants you to succeed and learn from him or her. Most entrepreneurs have street-smarts and they learn by copying people they admire. Even your competition can be a source of inspiration.

One of my early mentors, Jim Rohn, once said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with

So, be sure to surround yourself with people who have the same entrepreneur mindset. There is no prerequisite for becoming an entrepreneur. You just need to take the plunge. You will earn as you learn.

There is no end result. Your business will constantly grow and evolve. It is a never-ending process. You will constantly improve yourself, and as a result, you will improve your business and the lives of your customers.

Rome was not built in a day. Success will not happen overnight. When you visit Rome, it’s easy to get caught up in the masterpiece that it is, but it’s more important to realize that building it was a process.

Business is the same. It takes time to build. You must be willing to continually move forward, to better yourself, and to look for new ways to help others.

You need to know about people in order to help them become better. This is a concept I have learned over the years.

You must be a leader in your marketplace, and to do this, you must serve the people who need your products or services.

Leadership is not about keynote speeches in front of thousands of people. Leadership is about helping the right people and learning how to serve them. You must work on yourself daily in order to help others. Opportunities in life happen when you least expect them.

When one door closes, another one opens. You should be open-minded to new ideas and aware of what is going on around you.

Opportunities will find you. Close-minded people wonder why they never get ahead. They don’t realize that the perfect opportunity has probably been right in front of them the entire time, but they were too blind to see it. Work to improve yourself daily. Consume content that will help you grow.

Surround yourself with people who will lift you up, support you, and cheer you on when you’re down. Constantly give back and serve the people you want to help. Focus on becoming a better version of yourself and look for ways to improve your skill sets.

The employee vs. the entrepreneur

Entrepreneurship boils down to mindset.

If someone tells me, “No,” I figure out a way to make that “Yes.” When most people say, “I can’t,” I say, “I can, and just watch me.” Someone might say, “I can’t live without my stable paycheck and take the risk that investing in myself would need.” I would say, “I’d rather live for myself that work for someone else.”

Other people will tell me that they want to go back to school to get ahead in the job market. They want to get their Master’s degree or their PhD. When I ask them what they expect those degrees to do for them, they are often confused or unsure of the outcome. They are looking for answers in the wrong area.

Someone working for a company might see a problem and say, “This can’t be done.” Within the confines and rules of that company, they may be right. An entrepreneur will look at a problem from all angles to find a solution. Instead of saying. “This can’t be done,” the entrepreneur will ask “how can it be done?” or “What can be done to fix this?”

The entrepreneur won’t stop asking the right questions until he hits on the right question to solve a problem.

He can do this because he’s not limited by the set rules of a company or the opinions of his boss. He is the boss. Finding the answer to a customer’s problem can be a challenge, but it can also be an opportunity.

Perhaps this customer’s problem is a new revenue stream that you haven’t yet explored. At the very least it may be the impetus that gets you to learn a new skill or technology.

An entrepreneur’s first and foremost job should be to solve problems. Finding problems means finding a need to be met. That’s how we make a profit. Being a great entrepreneur means adding value to the solutions we provide.

Someone might find a need in the marketplace and be disappointed that no one is filling it. An entrepreneur will see that void as an opportunity to find a way to fill the need and make money doing it. In this way, you can make a choice to do something you are really passionate about and make a good living doing it.

Here’s an example of an employee versus an entrepreneur. A client wants a website built with specific customizations. An employee of a website coding firm might say, “I’m sorry. This is not something we can do.” An entrepreneur with the same coding capabilities will look at the problem and find a way to have the client’s expectations met.

He may outsource some of the work and leverage off that outside contractor. Or he might purchase new tools or software that directly address the problem. Whatever it takes, the entrepreneur finds a way to solve the problem and satisfy the client’s needs.

An entrepreneur becomes the conductor of a vast orchestra, who leads all the instruments in order to solve problems and find opportunities for new business.

And there will always be problems. Regardless of how streamlined you make your business, problems will show up. Some will get resolved. Some will get patched.

Entrepreneurs don’t stress over these day-to-day issues. They look at the big picture, not the one small slot that their job falls into.

Why now is the perfect time to become an entrepreneur

Let’s be honest. There will never be the perfect time to supplement your job by starting an online business. Investment implies risk and uncertainty. No one likes uncertainty. But there are convincing reasons why now is the time to make that leap, no matter what your circumstances.

Sixty years ago, the world ran on the skill and labor of workers. We were taught that to get ahead in life, we needed skills. We went to school to learn these skills. We specialized, we got degrees, racked up tons in student debts, and went into the workforce to work off those debts and take our rightful place in the economy.

T his economic model can only last for so long. And what happens when it fails? We’re already seeing those results. This model is not sustainable.

Gone are the days when you were hired by a big company right out of college and worked your way up the corporate ladder of that same company to come out with a gold watch after forty years of hard work.

The modern job market is tough for college graduates. Many of them start their new careers deep in debt for their studies. Job stability is a thing of the past too. With the volatile economy that has become the norm, jobs come and go.

People who lose their jobs must leave or sell their house to possibly move to another city or state find comparable work after a layoff. Nobody’s job is secure anymore. Jobs are no longer meaningful and do not serve a higher purpose.

People are tired of living from paycheck to paycheck, but they are fearful of leaving the perceived stability of their jobs. How do you combat all these forces that create an environment that keeps you in a 9-5 job? You become an entrepreneur. Now is the perfect time.

Along with these societal reasons to look into entrepreneurship, technology is also a driving force. Modern technology facilitates business with everything from robots to bookkeeping software.

Unfortunately, this facilitation also means lost jobs—another reason why people need to look for alternative ways to survive and make a living.

In this increasingly automated workplace, the need for skills is diminishing and creative thinking is the new requirement to be a success. The millennials will be the first generation to make the shift back to what life was like in the ’20s and ’30s where entrepreneurism was more common. They won’t have a choice.

But technology can also facilitate this shift toward entrepreneurism. It is now easier than ever to set up a business online with nothing but a laptop, a cellphone, and a wi-fi connection.

These trends impact potential entrepreneurs. They begin moving their minds in the right direction. Someone who is not entrepreneurial-minded will see a layoff as a setback.

He will look to the next best solution in his mind. This may be finding a similar job in another city or going back to school. An entrepreneur will look for a new way to make a living, something not recognized by the established norm. He will make his own opportunities.

As another example, a recent graduate may find the job market in her chosen field has dried up. What does she do now? Does she take any 9-5 job she can find, probably something out of her field and below her salary expectations? Or does she become an entrepreneur and lead the way forward, rather than following the crowd?

Societal changes, such as instability of jobs or the difficult job market, are all bits and pieces that wear away at the established mindset and pave the way for potential entrepreneurs.

A disappointment turns into an opportunity

In 2005, I finally decided I wanted to be an entrepreneur. This was when I truly realized what entrepreneurship meant. Before that, I worked at mundane jobs, made one failed attempt to start my own business, and invested in real estate for three years.

As a real estate investor, I fell in love with scheduling my own hours. I loved the steady monthly income I received from rents and the net profits I made from flipping properties. It was my experience in leveraging an asset to make money and it hooked me into the entrepreneurial mindset.

Investment property is an asset and has many other benefits. It appreciates overtime, is insured, and provides tax benefits. You can leverage it to build wealth. Rental income—which pays all costs, mortgages, tax, maintenance, insurance—can increase over time. You can invest in real-estate using the OPM (other people’s money) method. In other words, you can get a loan or a mortgage to start your initial investment.

When the real estate market crashed in 2008, I knew that it was time for me to move on. I was disappointed. I truly believed that real estate investing was going to be my profession. As an entrepreneur, you have to be ready for that disappointment. You have to be willing to chalk it up to a learning experience and face the wide-open future as full of possibilities.

In those early years, I struggle without a mentor. I dabbled in network marketing earlier and failed at it. Back then, I didn’t understand the importance of finding a good mentor, someone who could help me, step-by-step, to achieve my goals. When I returned to network marketing in 2011, I had such a mentor and was able to create the working environment and lifestyle I desired.

I also realized that I had found my niche within my niche. Traditionally, network marketing is an offline business opportunity. It’s about connecting in the real world and networking face-to-face.

I found that I had trouble finding opportunities to talk to people. My local market was saturated in a sense. So, I turned to social media and internet marketing to establish my business. Building online means building globally. Suddenly, my potential network became much larger.

All these prior experiences led me to the online marketing space that I have today.

In 2011, I decided to use my experience to help others. Helping people needs to be a movement. It is a symbiotic relationship. Everyone wants to make money and everyone needs help in some area or many areas of life. The real foundation of being an entrepreneur comes from helping others. I help people get what they want, and they help me get what I want. This is a very sustainable model because you put others before yourself. You take yourself out of the picture and serve the needs of others first.

Money isn’t the currency, people are the currency. To make this model work, you must develop relationships. The Internet and social media is the perfect place to make these connections. Build up your network. Get involved in the conversation and find ways that you can help others. Money is a by-product of how many people you can help, but it shouldn’t be your motivating factor.
