Contributing Factors To A Broke Mindset

No matter how hard it is, it is a valid fact that there are people who live at or below the poverty line. The thing that is most amazing and shocking pertaining to such people is that there is a vast majority within such people who do not wish to change their life and consequently stay within the same limits and problems their whole life.

The reason why people aren’t able to break free and live a wealthy life emotionally and materialistically is the fact that people have a broke mindset. This mindset of theirs does not allow them to think about the ways in which they can break through and pave their way to success. The lines below discuss the biggest factor that causes a broke mindset and the countermeasures to reach prosperity.

Contributing Factors To A Broke Mindset

Poor Choices

It cannot be said any plainer than this that the biggest reason why people aren’t able to make good use of their life and live in abundance is the poor choices they make. We all are humans and it is in our nature to commit mistakes, however, if we keep on repeating those mistakes, then we won’t reach anywhere and as a result, we will have a mindset that won’t allow us to think of other possibilities. For instance, people who live hand to mouth will fight on a Black Friday sale over a few bucks cheaper Xbox, however, such people won’t spend a few dollars to attend a seminar or read a book that can lead to their personal development. Thus, by far and above all it is the poor choices made by people that cause a poor mindset and does not allow them to live and enjoy a life of prosperity.

Make Right Choices

Obviously the countermeasure to poor choices is making the right choices. Thus, if you are able to make the right choices, then chances are that you will be able to break the broke mindset and make your way to prosperity. There are certain choices that are the right ones and that differentiate prosperous people from broke people. The 3 major right choices that you should make in order to do away with the broke mindset are discussed below:

Focus on Personal Development- The first thing that will help you become successful and prosperous is your own self. Thus, the more skilled and more talented you are the more the chances of your success and prosperity. Therefore, if you wish to be prosperous in any way you want to, then the best thing you can do in this regard is to invest in personal development, whether it is by buying a book about personal growth or attending a seminar where you learn something new or meet knowledgeable people.

Contributing Factors To A Broke Mindset

Abundance over Scarcity- There are two prime approaches pertaining to the resources available in life. Some people think that the resources are abundant, therefore, they try their best to utilize what they have and aim for a greater share in that abundance. On the other hand, there is the other school of thought that thinks that the resources in the world are scarce, thus they have to make the best out of every little thing they have and stay within their limit else they would lose whatever they have as well. Out of the two approaches, the abundance approach is what prosperous people have while the meek ones who merely survive life are the ones who live by the scarcity approach. Thus, the second choice you have to make is having the right approach to life.

Don’t Argue- The biggest factor that you will find common in all those people who live check to check is that they always argue about their poor condition and find ways to justify their circumstances. They always have some excuse or have someone to blame for their poor condition. This is the wrong approach and it encourages a broke mindset. On the other hand, if poor people would keep their minds open and always be in search of opportunities instead of lamenting about their condition, then chances are that they would get an opportunity that would change their life. Thus, instead of arguing make the chance of being on the lookout for an opportunity, and eventually you will be able to reach the destination of prosperity by defeating broke mindset.

Doubt any one can say they have not hit rock bottom at some point in their life.

Guess for me it was when my business took a big hit several years ago. What I was doing stopped working (mostly SEO), then traffic and sales dropped quickly. Was a low time.

The way I got out, was to take a JOB again. This brought in some cash and it quickly reminded me why I loved working for myself. It gave me the motivation to get fired up again.

Before that, I’d have to say it was when I was still working for some one else, before I started my online business. It wasn’t a real low point, but it was a point of being tired of not having money and living paycheck to paycheck. The motivation there was the drive to get out of the job once and for all. It was the “I SO hate working for some one else” that pushed me to start online and to make it work.

It’s tough to get out of the rat race! I know that I personally have too many student loans than one should have… certainly paying for it now!

Nate the argument point is so accurate and it might be the most freeing moment in your life when you stop defending your broke-ness and start owning your failure financially. Excellent!

  8. I like this post, Nate. It is true that mindset can be as huge a problem as it can be a great asset. I really had to struggle when I first went into business for myself because I had a broke mindset and I always approached things with negativity and doubt. It took quite a bit of time, practice, and wisdom to finally break through and start to finally realize my full potential and accept that I had abundance at my fingertips after all. Awesome post. Thanks

      Hi Jeanne,

Sometimes as entrepreneurs we have to struggle in order to fail forward and get the things we want. Failing is nothing more than an experience that you know does not work. So, if you tried something, it doesn’t work. Do you stop? Absolutely not. You keep moving and try something different. Appreciate the comments!

  9. Having a broke mindset can be daunting because there is a reason why so many people are broke and it starts with their mind!

I agree 100% with focusing on personal development. When I began focusing on myself and bettering myself, everything else seemed to fall into place.

Great post Nate.. I think that if you can avoid the bad choices then that is good unfortunately we all are human and I believe have to go through them and those choices that didn’t work out actually make us stronger and put us on the path to the choices that do. Mindset is key and not to let something that didn’t pan out influence you to quit or not take a chance again. Total value as always from you. Keep them coming..

Great post Nate. We all have to make choices and sometimes they are not the best choices that we make. Learning from them and taking what we have learned and moving on I believe is key. Mindset is important to not staying stuck in the bad choices.

    • Nate Leung says:

Mindset is everything! It’s the starting for anything we do. Thank you Maggie!

  14. Hey

Agreed with all your points shared, I think it all depends on a person to pick a choice either it may be right or wrong. But the person who choose a right thing or right decision will always comes to achieve.

    Thanks

  15. This is a great article Nate because a person must be willing to be coachable and learn from the succesful people to do what they did to move forward in their business and in life. And another thing to consider is that they have to learn how to serve other people. That is finding out what the other person wants and help them get it.

It is no different than the waitress at breakfast asking the customer “What would you like to order?”

Furthermore they must remember not to take things personal when people are telling them NO. Because they are not being rejected only the opportunity or product was not the right time in the other persons life.

It is no different than the waitress. She does not cry if someone says NO to buying coffee. She pours coffee to the volunteers.

Lets take the volunteers as customers and as business partners.

      Hi Lawrence!

I am in agreement with you! Anyone who comes in to any business must be coachable and teachable. Appreciate the comments!

  16. Hey Nate,

I’ve hit rock bottom a couple of times LOL… but i was lucky to have some people to point me in the right direction. One thing I did was keep my body fit. I was always exercising and I believe this was one of the great contributing factors that kept my mind open for opportunities. Also a friend of mine at the time pointed me to Anthony Robbins and that really blew my mind! But having the right mindset is a decision that you have to make for yourself. Either you keep your mind closed and stay stagnant in your situation or opened to see how you can get out and grow! Thanks for sharing Nate!

    • Nate Leung says:

Glad to see that you bounced back Sherman! If you didn’t, you wouldn’t be serving the way you are now! Appreciate you buddy!

wonderful post. this happens to me lot of times. till today, whenever i am in such a situation i completely take a break to relax and then restart afresh by learning from mistakes.

  18. You are so right Nate about people’s choices, the line about fighting over Xboxes instead of paying for learning is spot on. Of course many people don’t have the education to make this connection, and they need a gentler hand to help lift them up, because they probably need teaching that they can be helped up in the first place!
    Cheers,

Having a broke mindset can hold someone back for a long time.

  21. Important information for us all to remember – most of us, including myself, have those blocks that help us avoid seeing what we can do to better ourselves – fear of change is a huge block to overcome, But, growing and changing is life and sometimes can bring such joy. 🙂

  22. Bill Garner says:

Excellent article Nate. I am reminded of this verse in Corinthians.
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

Reckless thinking leads to reckless living!

To your success in 2014 and beyond.

  23. Ooooo … tough love here and I think it’s good. Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s not the end of the world. You learn from them. Actually I think one HUGE obstacle for people getting what they want is apathy and giving up. The “I can’t do that” syndrome. Many people, including me at times, don’t believe they can do anything else, which just isn’t true. It’s amazing and surprising what you CAN do.

  24. Susan Ray says:

Great way of putting this information. Thank You!

  25. Very good post ,Nate
I think a lot of people do not have a dream and do not dare to dream,
and do not take the time to think really,
I know many who are stuck in old paradigms and
are not even aware of it.
I think self improvement is needed to get aware.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Erika,

Yes, more people need personal development! Thank you for the comments!

  26. Dawn says:

You hit the nail on the head, Nate. I especially love the section about abundance vs scarcity. You can’t be afraid to give things away and you can’t operate with the fear that you are going to lose. That type of mindset will just keep you broke.

  27. To some this may be a little tough love, and that’s okay 🙂
Our mindset is where our success is initiated.
