Can You Build A MLM Network Marketing Business Part-Time?

The allure of MLM and network marketing in general lies in the fact that so many of the sales pitches focus on how you can earn additional money in your spare time while still holding down your full-time job.  What these pitches don’t allude to is how this “additional money” is oftentimes less than $200 per month – an amount that many people don’t seem worth the initial time and investment.  Despite this, there have been numerous successful people in MLM who have managed to build up their MLM business while only working at it part-time, but be warned that doing this will require extreme effort, time management and motivation on your end.

Formulate a plan for your time to build your MLM Network Marketing business

Having excellent time management skills is one of the greatest qualities you will need when attempting to build an MLM business while only working on it part-time.  Because you are only going to have at most 2-3 hours per day to devote towards your MLM efforts, you better be darned sure those 2-3 hours per day are spent doing things that are productive towards your MLM efforts.

With the people that you talk to daily and if you are planning on building on the internet and your website are going to be your primary source of leads it’s important to devote at least 70% of your time towards generating new and relevant content for your website, creating new videos, releasing free demo products to capture email leads, and finally capturing leads through the use of a squeeze page and an autoresponder.

Develop a Routine and stick to it to build your MLM Network Marketing business

Developing a routine and sticking to that routine once you implement it into your daily life is crucial when it comes to building up an MLM business when you only have a few hours per day to devote towards building that business.  If you work from 9-5 and don’t get home till 6:00, and you generally go to bed at 11:30, this leaves you with five and a half hours of “free time” between returning from work and going to bed.  This assumes you don’t have time to work on your MLM efforts in the morning, considering most people barely have enough time for personal hygiene, getting coffee and running out the door.

Using my formula above, you should develop a system that sees you working on your MLM company at the same time each evening.  Perhaps you work straight through from 6:00 to 8:00, or perhaps you need to help with kids, cooking dinner and housework, which only gives you time to work after 9:00 until bedtime.  No matter what times you choose it’s important to stick with the routine each and every day.

Stay Focused

While social media and social networking websites are great avenues for lead generation when used correctly, all too often people become entranced by the latest cat videos or funny meme websites and then they find themselves totally disconnected from their work.  Remember that nobody ever said working from home would be easy.  It takes dedication and self-discipline to stay with the course.

  1. Thank goodness this is possible or there wouldn’t be time for life!

Nate, creating a routine is totally where I am at much of my time because it seems to be so hard to keep my routine with kids… Something I am continuously work towards while staying sane! 🙂 great tips on the time management… thank you!

  3. Nate, you really hit the nail on the head. It’s all about focus. Consistent focus is needed to build any MLM business. Sometimes people new to the business sit around making forms, fliers, and recreating wheels rather than talking to people about the business and doing actual “income producing” activities. With the right focus and motivation a nice income can result from part-time work in any MLM.

      Hi Stefani,

That’s what it’s all about! It’s all about taking your daily tasks and doing the consistent actives to grow your business. People tend to focus on the wrong things such as, finding people to talk to, or what to say, or how to say it and when you break it down into simplistic easy to follow tasks it’s really not that difficult to build a business. The only downside is that it is a process and with consistent activity, you can build a large business.

  4. Being a traveler I know what it feels like to do the part-time bit once in a while, Nate.

Be uber disciplined. Work until you get the job done by releasing old, low-energy habits. Do you want to watch “Big Bang Theory” every night or be financially free? Heck, when you grow your business you CAN watch BBT, as I am a big fan 😉

Sacrifice now and you can be free later.

    Thanks for the great post!

      Hi Ryan,

I’ve heard of Big Bang Theory but never watched it. I’m going to have to check it out now that you mentioned it.

I agree with you, sacrifice now, and be free later. 🙂

  5. Hey Nate,

I like this type of “Let’s Be Real” kind of posts. There is so much hype about how easy it would be to build a business from home, especially on the internet, but yet no one knows the real scoop of what it takes to do so.

When you can get into the feel and habit of what it takes, once you build that momentum, no matter how long it takes, the road will get easier. Thanks for the message!

      Hey Sherman!

Thanks man for the compliments. I want to be honest and real when it comes to talk about Network Marketing. Just like any profession there are things that need to be addressed. Thanks for the input!

I join my first network marketing about 3 years ago. I have built my business mainly part time. Some years, even on a very part-time basis when I was at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year in university. After some ups and down in my success journey, I am now doing the business full time by putting in extra efforts into prospecting and team building.

I fully agree with you that people should not quit their job to pursue their network marketing career. My mentor who is a fitness trainer, stopped his fitness training business when his income from network marketing was one and a half of what he used to earn from his clientele. Awesome stuff Nate!

    Hi Nate –

I’m brand new to the industry and what i love about it is that I can work this business along side with my full-time day job. I can keep working my business until it sustains my income and then I can quit. Great post!
