6 Differences Between Facebook And Twitter Marketing

The fact is evident that without social media marketing, the businesses cannot possibly survive these days. However, this does not mean that having a profile for each of the social media platforms suffices the need; rather, a business must utilize the platforms according to their potential in order to gain effective benefits from them. And in order to do so, the business requires understanding the differences between the platforms.

Facebook and Twitter are the two biggest and most dominating social media platforms these days. Both of these platforms have their own distinctive features and qualities, which make them suitable for a particular marketing campaign. Let me give you 6 major differences between these two platforms with the help of which you can use them according to your marketing plan and objectives.

6-Differences-between-Facebook-and-Twitter-Marketing

Outreach:

The first thing to consider pertaining to the two platforms is the kind of outreach they have. At this point of time, Facebook has over 1billion users across the globe, whereas, Twitter has over 500million users. Therefore, if you wish to reach maximum people and that too across the globe, then Facebook is the platform you can go with, whereas, the use of Twitter is minimal and limited compared to it.

Response Time:

If the objective of your social media marketing campaign is to engage customers and receive their response, then in this regard Twitter will be a far better option. On Facebook, the spread of a message and then the response from the customers can take days because of the broader level spread at Facebook, on the other hand, Twitter is quicker at response time as the message spreads quickly on it and the response is the same quick as well.

Relationship Building:

One of the major objectives of business from using social media is to develop a relationship with the customers. When businesses interact with customers on social media platforms, the ultimate result is the business getting to know more about the customers and trying their best to meet their demands. Pertaining to relationship building, the best platform is Facebook, as it offers to share in various ways and is more feasible for communication compared to Twitter that involves mostly offline sharing and hence very little chances of a conversation-starting and causing a relationship to grow. Therefore, Facebook is a better option pertaining to relationship building.

Brand Identity:

Another reason for the utilization of social media platforms for marketing is to spread the word of business and create a brand identity. This identity is primarily created by the fast and frequent spread of the name of the business, therefore, when it comes to the fast and frequent spread of the brand name, Twitter is a better option compared to Facebook. Therefore, if a business wants to create a buzz about its brand, then it must opt for Twitter as an online marketing social media platform.

Lead Generation:

Businesses utilize social media for the generation of leads as well. The purpose behind the use of social media in this regard is to bring the customers to the website where they could be attracted and a sale could be made out of them. Therefore, in this regard, Twitter serves as the best option as effective call to actions can be included in it to generate leads and direct them to the website.

Sales Generation:

Pertaining to making sales, the best social media platform option for the business is to use Facebook. It assists in making sales-related activities such as promotion and direct sales pitch. Therefore, for generating sales directly, use Facebook as an effective option.

Accurately written post. Thanks for the information.

  2. As far as relationship building, I find both twitter and facebook about equal. I don’t think either of them have led to a sale of one of my books. ‘They’ say, marketing a product takes time. However, that time might run out for an older person and all their effort might prove worthless.

I think both have their advantages and disadvantages!

Good outline of the benefits of social media. It’s up to each individual business to dig deeper and exploit them fully.

  5. Trisha says:

I definitely prefer Twitter but feel that Facebook has been more productive for me in the past. The way things are going with Facebook, I think at some point Twitter will be more beneficial,

    Hi Nate
Very helpful post. Learning how to use social media effectively is key to any online campaign. Simply blasting links hoping someone will bite is haphazard and a waste of time. There are definitely differences between these two platforms and the better we can learn them, the more effectively we can use each.

Nice points Nate 😉 I dig both networks. Twitter seems better for expanding your presence quickly and FB for building strong relationships.

    Tweeted 🙂

  9. I like the both. I have connected with some cool people on both. It’s Bern helpful with leads too. Great Article. Thanks Nate.shared on Twitter.

  10. Debra Jason says:

While Facebook has 1+ billion users compared to Twitter’s 500 million, when you post on FB you’re not reaching those 1 billion peeps.
I use both FB and Twitter, but get more engagement (i.e. building relationships w/biz professionals) on my FB personal profile than on my Fan Page. However, I still do both.
And, I use LinkedIn – the largest business professional network!
Thanks for your interesting comparisons, I will share with others (on Twitter). 🙂

  11. Good information. I use both platforms, Facebook has been more productive for me.

i prefer twitter to facebook these days although having the networks groups are alot better and simpler to use on facebook for networking x

  13. Lina Bouc says:

I do use both Facebook and Twitter, but oddly what has been working for me? Reddit and StumbleUpon. It may be because we write viral stories, but some of our news articles have done very well. I would also suggest Pinterest if bloggers use pictures in their content. You can link directly to your blog. This ever-changing landscape of interaction continually grows. Gotta love it. Great information, thanks for sharing.

  14. Edie Dykeman says:

My preference is FaceBook because it is much easier and more fun to connect with family, friends, and business interests. I’ve been on Twitter longer than FB, about five or six years, and really did give it a try. I used TweetDeck for a while and enjoyed seeing the various threads but I found myself spending too much time on Twitter and not getting anything else done. So, FB it is for me unless something better comes along – and I haven’t seen anything else that I like.

  15. Jen says:

I love both platforms for different reasons. From a blogger’s perspective Twitter can be a great tool to attract the attention of brands, and Facebook is a great place to connect with our readers.

  16. Sojourner says:

I used to prefer FB, but I like the rapid fire nature of twitter and I find that my links get opened more on twitter than FB.

  17. I only have the experience of my blog but I have to say that I’ve been a lot more successful promoting it through Facebook than through Twitter. And, as I’ve mentioned before, I think a lot of businesses trying to use social media just don’t do it right – on either Facebook or Twitter.

  18. Jan Kearney says:

I use both platforms. I prefer Facebook because the rapid pace of Twitter makes my eyes cross!

However, taking part in business tweetchats does get the click-throughs and sign ups. Also arranged more face-to-face meetings via Twitter

  19. Bonnie Gean says:

I use both platforms, but mostly interact with my people on Facebook. I use Twitter mainly for updates on blog posts, etc.

I get the best results with Facebook in terms of communication with my audience; whereas, I get better “personal response” from Twitter followers.

For me, Twitter is for friendship as Facebook is to marketing. 🙂

    Nate,
I found your article very informative and useful. I did not know the differences between facebook and Twitter. I pretty much use facebook, but I should look into twitter I think. Thanks so much for sharing!

  21. Other than shooting out tweets when I make a post, I haven’t really done much of anything with Twitter. I do use Facebook quite a bit though. Your post is really helpful. I’m starting to see the value of putting more time into twitter as it can compliment the Facebook efforts.

  22. Hi Nate actually I do use both twitter and Facebook but I like Facebook better because of the different way we can utilize it.They offer :group ,page, event ect…And customers feel like home in Facebook. Thank Nate for your post…

  23. Nate,

I like your breakdown of the comparisons and benefits of each. When I began online I was very active on Twitter. At that time I had very few followers so when I tweeted, I got quick responses. Now my tweets can get lost in cyberspace. On Facebook, on the other hand, I have some loyal friends and followers who quickly respond to my shares – and that feels so good. And in the groups there is a lot of interaction. I keep forgetting to use hashtags on my tweets or Facebook posts.

    Warmly,

    Dr. Erica

  24. Comparing Facebook and Twitter is something like comparing cats and dogs, or knitting and crochet. So many similarities, yet they are very different. I use both. Twitter has great potential for relationship building — you just have to choose the individuals you want to interact with, and do it. But the breakneck speed of Twitter is dizzying for me. Facebook is more my pace.

  25. Liz Delaney says:

Thanks Nate. I loved your comparison. I realyl should spend more time on Twitter. I used to. I tweet my links – and those of others, but don’t spend as much time on it as I should. Facebook is more my style. I have made valuable contacts there – and some wonderful new friends.

  26. Merle says:

Great post Nate. I tend to use Facebook much more than Twitter although when I am sharing posts I always make sure I post them to Twitter. Thanks for sharing.

  27. Thank you ,Nate
there were a few things I did not think about before,
like Twitter is not as busy as Facebook
    and the response time ,
I put post on both ,but think Facebook
is better for connecting with people.

  28. Hi Nate,

Good points to think about. I use both Facebook and Twitter but tend to spend more time on FB.

  29. Samir says:

    Hello,

Yeah all of the difference between facebook and twitter marketing are really true and I guess both are good in their own ways.

    Thanks
