5 Ways To Avoid Being Stressed Out in Your MLM Network Marketing Business

Good business, good academics, and a good life all have one thing in common: Those living that good life, doing those good academics, and executing that good business are all suffering from as little stress as they can. Stress is a damaging thing that can get in the way of . . . Well, just about everything. It’s important to do everything in your power to avoid being too stressed out, so here are five things you can do to reduce stress in your MLM business. Some of them pertain to your general life, and some pertain directly to your business, but they’re all wonderfully effective.

5 Ways to avoid being stressed out in your MLM business

Exercise

It’s cliche advice, but only because it’s good advice. Exercising regularly is one of the best ways to reduce stress. This is a scientifically proven fact, and there’s no shortage of anecdotal evidence for its truth. Get to the gym three times a week at least, if you can, and when you go home, you’ll feel a whole lot better, even into the day after.

Set Financial Goals . . .

. . . But acknowledge that goals are flexible. Chances are good you won’t be able to cop $50,000 in a given amount of time, even if you have before and have everything in place. The whole idea of goals is to let them be guidelines. If you set your goal to $50k and make $45k, that’s fine. If you make more, that’s obviously great, too. The point is, don’t get too hung up on specifics. Focus more on progress and on being in the ballpark – this way, you’ll be successful throughout your career and be less stressed than you would be had you focused on the details.

Surround Yourself with Support

Many people don’t believe in MLM. While everyone is entitled to his or her own beliefs, you don’t need to be associating with people who are just going to tell you you’re making mistakes. Instead, spend time with people who are also on their way to striking it big with multilevel marketing. Make friends at conventions, meet with the bigshots, and make sure not to hang around the people who don’t believe in you or your business.

Why You Should Never Pay for Another Person's Distributorship

Accept the Failures

Before embarking on any journey, you have to acknowledge that you’ll fail, at least once, but probably a few thousand times in various ways, before you make it big. If you think you’ll get to success without trying all too hard, you’ll be disappointed when things go wrong, and give up. The secret is persistence, and the secret to persistence is to be okay with mistakes. So make them, and learn from them.

Use Your Tools

When you sign up with an MLM business, you’ll be given a whole bunch of tools. Many people make the mistake of not exploiting these tools to the fullest, which is why they never make it and are always stressed. IF you use every tool in your toolbox, however, you’ll be able to handle just about any situation with ease, and without stress. So learn your toolbox and surround yourself with greats to be less stressed and more successful!

Now it’s your turn!

    Hi Nate

Stress – what is that? 🙂

I had a day today that I stressed more than I usually do because my computer was not working, then my printer died and I just got stressed. I went for a walk and yes it helps.

I agree with your list. Exercise for me is key. I just do not do well without it. In my very stressful past businesses I used to go to the gym twice a day – a bit of over kill but it helped.

Accepting your failure is critical to success – but let’s call them “learning experiences” as my friend Robert Kiyosaki would say. It puts it as it should be we stuffed up and we can learn from it.

Use your tools is another biggy for sure. Too many people in MLM do not do that.

    A great post Nate.

      Hi Sue,

I can relate with you because when the computer goes down, seems like everything else goes down with it like a domino effect!

Yes, exercise does help with stress. I train at the gym 4-5 times a week and helps me with the release of endorphins.

Appreciate you stopping by! Have a great week ahead!

    Great stuff,

Exercise is great not only for reducing stress, but also for increasing your energy levels. When I wasn’t working out or doing much exercise I found that I was constantly tired and lacked motivation.

    All great tips, however.

    Good stuff,

Stress is a killer and sometimes you need to know when to walk away. Even just doing that and taking a walk or exercise and clear your head. Every business has stress, but how you deal with it will help you for the rest of your life.

Set goals, but don’t make the goals so far out of your reach you will never achieve them. You will just add more stress.

Failure is not a bad thing, because you learn from mistakes and the next time around you are even stronger.

Good article. Enjoy the rest of your week Nate

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Arleen,

Yes, stress is a killer and it effects not only your body but your mind as well. Stress will be there no matter what is how you deal and react to it is what matters.

Goal setting is an awesome way to alleviate stress. At least this way, you have a blue print and you’re following guidelines so that you don’t second guess yourself.

      Thank you for the comments!

  12. Hi Nate!

It is so easy to get caught up in stress when running your own business. After all, each and every action causes a reaction and we, as business owners need to strike a balance.

For me, it gets down to “mindset.” Having the right attitude running my own business saved me so much stress. An example of this is that I recently moved. Now we all know that is high on the stress chart. But focusing on my new surroundings kept the excitement alive. Then there was “setting up house.” – The unpacking. It took the entire summer.

I know I wasn’t at my usual “game” online and had to let things go a bit. Now there was moments where I got stressed out about it, but I had to keep reminding myself that this is normal! We do need to take time away from our business and people do understand.

The proof of the pudding was when my clients understood I would be away for a while and were so eager to hear my experience. I didn’t loose them, but rather gained a more closer relationship to them.

Stress to me is a choice. Either you accept it or do something about it. All the while I was going through my “lost summer” I made sure I took a walk each day, ate right, and drank more veggie juice to pump up my mind/body/spirit.

      Hi Donna!

Yes, I agree with what you said about stress being a choice. You can choose to be stressed or not. So often times, we trick and convince ourselves that we need to be “stressed” out. For what? When I hear people say, I’m always stressed out and I tell them that they need to change their words wisely because if they keep saying, they are “stressed” out, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Appreciate the comments!

    Hey Nate,

I don’t have an MLM business but I do have a few blogs and an ecommerce site, so there’s a lot to running things day in and day out.

It’s easy to get stressed but the thing that helps me the most is exercise and a little quiet time in my hammock. I walk every day about 5 miles, rain or shine 🙂

But also support from friends and family is a big one. Working off the buddy system is great too. Having a colleague or friend that you can call or talk to for ideas and support helps a lot. This person doesn’t necessarily have to be in the same business as you, in fact you can simply share task lists and then hold each other accountable to get your list done.

When you have to answer to someone, no matter who that is, it can make a difference. And if things become overwhelming you can at least talk it out with someone and get friendly support.

Those things go a long way with keeping you sane and motivated as well.

    Liz

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Liz,

Yes, having an accountability partner is a great way to reduce stress. The fact that you two keep each other accountable will help you not only grow your business but you won’t have to stress as much. It’s always good to air out your concerns while you’re stressed out. Thanks for the comments Liz!

  19. pam schmidt says:

In my opinion, many marketers miss out on the amount of sleep their bodies need. I see many of them posting at 1AM, and then again at 5AM. That can really add to stress.

    • Nate Leung says:

Yes, I can see that. If there isn’t balance, there definitely will be unnecessary stress. Thank you for the comments!

  20. Melissa says:

set small goals then I reward myself!

  21. Bill Garner says:

    Hi Nate,

I’m convinced that so many marketers get stressed because they got started in a home based business and didn’t take the time to evaluate whether or not the product was an inherent “yes” product for their budget. When those autoships start piling up and the sales don’t, people begin to panic. However, when you purchase a product that you love and are passionate about, you can weather those early days when the expenses outweigh the profits.

Another mistake frequently made by networkers is that they don’t plug in to the company culture. I have learned to enjoy the journey and the prizes along the way. It’s been a fun ride thus far, and we’re only beginning.

Thanks again for another great article!

    Bill Garner

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hey Bill,

Yes, that what separates those who work the business like a real business and the ones that work it like a hobby. The ones who work it like a hobby start to panic when they have a garage full or unused products. That can definitely cause some stress. But what’s the underlying issue? I believe that people need to be honest and focused on what it is, they want to accomplish. Once that focus and the goals have been laid out, stress will be minimized. Thanks for the feedback Bill!

Great tips Nate! Exercise, using the system and playing team has definitely kept me going…no matter what! Thanks for sharing your insight!
