Online Tips: 5 Simple Ways To Get Discovered Online Using SEO

Before we dive headfirst into the five specific search engine optimization strategies to getting “discovered” online, it’s critical that you understand we do not – DO NOT – suggest that you trust your business success to get discovered online.

Getting discovered online implies that you’re going to just sit back and produce world-class content, products, and services all while waiting for the world to beat a steady path to your door and literally throw money at you – simply because of your offering the best of the best.

This isn’t the “Field of Dreams” here, and there are literally millions and millions of businesses throughout human history that have folded up because they bought into the line of if you build it, they will come. No, you’re going to need to take a proactive approach to get discovered online – getting out and trying to hustle the justice much as humanly possible.

All that being said, here are five specific online strategies you can put into play right now.

Online Tips 5 Simple Ways To Get Discovered Online

Hunt and find quality backlinks to all your web properties

With all of the different searches being made on a daily basis (as well as the major changes to the Google and other search engine network algorithms), it’s becoming almost impossible to succeed online without focusing on generating quality backlinks to all of your web properties and content. It matters little whether or not you’re generating backlinks from specific web platforms, blogs, social media, or any other resource – and truthfully, the weighting system behind his backlinks will probably change before the time this article is published – so just focus on getting as many high-quality links as possible.

Google authorship boosts your posts

Putting your own name to the content that you produce – and using a Google+ verified account to do so – will help your content shoot up the search engine rankings that are then probably almost anything else. This gives you amazing influence (as well as a nice spot on the search engine results) if you’re willing to put in the time to develop it.

Canonical URLs improve search engine rankings

By outlining exactly which webpages in your site are more important and influential than others (and dictating that importance on your own) to the search engine network spiders and robots, you’re going to be able to dramatically influence which pages rank higher – and faster – than others.

Use microdata and schema to shoot up the search engine results

Using different HTML tags to tell search engines exactly what a page about is not only going to allow you to focus on generating content for humans without overloading the page with “on-page search engine optimization”, but it’s also going to make your search engine optimization that much more effective and efficient.

Try to implement responsive design just as soon as humanly possible

Though most of the data to support this is yet to be published and verified by reliable and reputable services, the truth of the matter is that responsive web design – a web design that adjusts to the size and shape of a specific screen – is the future of the web and should be implemented anyways.

Anecdotal evidence aside, there are a number of people and professionals that have claimed to enjoy better search engine results in the moment that they rolled out the responsive design as opposed to when they were using a more “static” website.

      Hi Roy,

It’s an easier way for Google to understand the content with the right intentions on how you want it to be understood. So, say if Google understands it, then it will start showing ‘rich snippets’ in the SERP’s based on how it’s being marked up. Thanks for the comments!

  10. Hi Nate

We were really brain-washed in the beginning that if we build it, they will come. I think if most of us knew that was never going to happen, we would have never started.

Course of action has changed since I put fingers to keyboard and I am sure it will constantly change. How long I stay will depend on what else transpires online or offline. Doing stuff right is still no guarantee of success. You can get your Alexa ranking down and still not make a dime. For me the journey has changed and where I go with it, the jury is still out.

The promises of how it should be soon fades for most that start out online. Either they quit or look at as a new journey in life. Can they stick it out until it becomes successful or do they find some other meaning for doing it.

      Hi Mary,

Yes, there has to be more than just basic expectations. Like the analogy that you used, “Build it and they will come”. It’s more than just those words alone. The actions have to come with intentions and belief. With consistency, implementation, dedication and also evolve in the process has everything to do with have that success along the journey. Thank you Mary!
