MLM is all about expansion. There can be no multilevel marketing without multiple levels, after all, and there canβt be multiple levels without multiple people. The most important part of MLM is spreading the word, and helping people and letting them know that the opportunity is both a good one, and a profitable one. After that, you have to qualify your prospect for your MLM opportunity. What that means is that you get them approved, or at least ensure that they are ready. Here are three simple ways to qualify your prospect for your MLM opportunity.
The Test
If you are in charge of determining absolutely how you qualify your prospects – most MLM network marketing opportunities allow you to set your own standards with certain small restrictions, for instance – then you can set up a method we call βthe testβ. This is where you determine what qualifies prospects for your MLM opportunity. Since you have a custom control, you can approve people who donβt quite fit the bill because you can waive requirements. More importantly – and more prudently – you can help them through the steps. That is, if they lack something, you can help them gain it; if they need, say, this sort of background, you can give them the knowledge.
The Mentor
Take charge in qualifying your prospect for your MLM opportunity, youβre likely to have intimate knowledge of them. If this is the case, you should be able to relatively easily act as a mentor for your prospect. In this capacity, you tell them what they need to do; where they are now; and where they need to be to get approved. A relatively simple technique you can employ for this is the creation of a dossier which contains all the information necessary to get approval. It will contain information on what you need, where to go to get it, what you need to know, and where you need to go to learn it. Being there to answer any questions is, of course, a must, but creating such a document and standing by it is ultimately a great way to get the job done. Setting proper expectations is one of the best ways to qualify your prospect.
The Tutorials
Finally, if by βqualifyβ, you mean, provide with enough knowledge to succeed in the business, you can point any and all of your prospects to the training tools you and your organization have made available. This way, theyβll be able to learn everything they need to know free of extra charge, which, of course, enables them to qualify themselves in a way that is productive for them, profitable for you, and good for everyone involved. This is, of course, also a mentoring capacity for you, since you have to answer questions and clarify concepts, but being the provider of the information is significantly freeing and allows you to really help them fine-tune skills and knowledge that you might not have had the same guidance with. This is how to build an effective network.

Thank you Holly! π
This is my first time stopping by. I love these tips because they are practical and easy to employ. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Catherine,
Welcome to my site. I’m glad you got value. π
Simple, concise advice.
I like how you were able to boil this down to it’s core components. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words! π
I’ve always been interested in MLM as a tool for social good- like spreading awareness and raising money for a cause. Any thoughts? It’d be amazing if you could write a post on that. I’d love to read something on that topic.
Hi Stephanie,
Yes MLM does serve a good purpose. MLM does have products that allows it’s reps to raise money for a charitable cause. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Nate, As usual you just pack your posts with a lot of great information. I am new at this, so I don’t even know how to qualify someone and at this point I would just like 1 person to sign up. But I am posting everyday and learning everyday. The technical stuff gets to me sometimes. Thanks for sharing…………..
Hello Irene,
It can be challenging starting off. As long as you’re working directly with someone that is showing you the ropes and that they genuinely care about your success you will get your first sign up. Keep learning and implementing every day. Thanks Irene! π
Well said. Remember this business is not for everyone. Keep your message in front of your target audience and focus your attention on those that show interest.
Thanks for the comments Matt!
Great Article
One method I use is training videos which I think is in the same category as Tutorials which are very helpful to new members.
One that also helps is not being afraid to ask a question.
Wouldn’t another way be to find out if they are motivated enough
to follow direction and take massive action?
Hi Cindy,
Yes, there are other methods. The bottom line is that you need to find their deep desires and also their ‘why’. You figure that out, everything else follows and once you find out what it is their trying to get out of the opportunity, you will get them to take action on their own and make it their idea instead of yours. Appreciate the question!
This is great info for someone just starting out in an MLM biz AND for someone who’s been in for a long time and hasn’t had much success. Thanks for your tips Nate!
You’re welcome Stefani! π
This is something that most people don’t realize. In MLM we feel like we need to recruit everyone. This just isn’t the case. Not every person we come in contact with is meant to be a network marketer. We need to qualify the people we talk to. These are some awesome tips to do that Nate. Thanks.
Hi Al,
Yes you are right my friend. Not everyone is an ideal prospect. Although it can benefit most people. Thanks for the comments!
I don’t think many people consider whether or not a lead or recruit meets the criteria. They just sign someone up. But in order to have a strong team, you need to have people who will stand up to such criteria.
Hi Pam,
I agree with you. Having a strong team will last longer, and will hold up and stabilize in itself. Thanks for the comments!
Qualifying your prospect is one of many mlm recruiting secrets that people forget about. People want to recruit everyone and people who do that usually recruit no one.
Yes, exactly. Thanks Mike!
Nate,
Have you ever read the book Go Pro? It is all about Network Marketinng and recruiting for your offline of online business. I love it and I am about to read it again! Nice article!
Hi Kristie,
I have. Matter of fact, I did a review on his book last year. You can check it out by clicking here. Let me know your thoughts on the review, would love to have you comment on that.
Great tips as always Nate! Personally I know who my ideal client is and if they fit that profile, it’s a go. If they don’t, then we’re not a match and that’s ok. π
Right on! Thanks Judy!
Hi Nate –
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that it is NOT your job to convince people into network marketing, it IS your job to see if people are open to taking a look at your opportunity. Itβs all about getting eyeballs to your company presentation.
Hi Nate,
I always find every article in your website I came across to very helpful.
Thank you!.
Claire
Hi Claire –
