One of the major character attributes we have been taught in our childhood is that we need to develop an attitude where we try, try, try again. Thus, all our lives, whenever we face any difficulties, whenever we want to achieve some objective, whenever we want to change things, all come up with and give it a try. Don’t get me wrong, but trying does not help.
There are innate flaws with the idea of trying. The concept, which we need to propagate and inculcate in ourselves as well as in our generations to come, is the concept of Doing. We need to develop a ‘do’ attitude instead of a ‘try’ attitude. In the following lines, I’ll discuss with you the 3 major reasons why you need to stop trying and focus your time and energy on doing.
Hesitancy vs. Commitment:
One of the major reasons why you need to stop trying and start doing is the fact that trying brings hesitancy while doing brings commitment. To put it simply, would you count on someone who says that he or she will try to make it to your party or someone who says that he or she will come to your party? Another example could be that as a business owner would you prefer a service provider who says that they try their best or the ones who say that they do their best? I am sure that in both cases people prefer the ones with the attitude in latter options. Therefore, if you wish to clear out hesitancy in your life and make yourself committed to a cause or whatever you like, then you need to stop trying and just jump in and start doing it.
Failure Factor vs. End Goal:
Let me give you the bitter pill; all of us who fail in doing something or in achieving some objective come up with a single optimistic attitude which entails ‘all I could do was try’. The point, which I want to make, is that the trying attitude always carries the element of failure in it where you try with a possibility of failure. On the other hand, when you do something, then all you envision is the end goal and you don’t have any undivided attention towards the possibility of fear. Therefore, those who wish to do something they go on and do it and don’t settle for anything less, whereas those who are not strong in their ambition, try. Ergo, understand the difference and develop the right attitude in yourself.
Passivity vs. Action:
Another great reason for you to quit the trying attitude and adopting the doing attitude is the fact that trying to bring passivity while doing commends action. Let’s take a simple example where you have to start the gym to get fit. I guess I don’t need to stress the obvious fact that most of us try going to gym every day and try doing the exercises, as a result of this trying, few of us don’t even start a gym, while the rest of us go for a few days and then quit. On the other hand, there is another group of people who go to the gym every day and who simply do what they do without any element of not doing it or quitting it. Therefore, trying there is an element of passivity that stops people from moving forward and pursuing what they want to pursue. On the other hand, with doing there comes action, and when there is action, there is no need for anything else left.
