MLM, or multilevel marketing, is something of a craze nowadays. Everyone knows what it is, and more and more people are jumping on board. This is for good reason – there's some serious money in MLM, and there's some serious freedom, as well. Of course, the money only comes to those who earn it, and the freedom is only relevant if you're making money. As good as it sounds, the fact of the matter is that very few people make huge amounts of money through MLM. This is not because the system doesn't work, however, but because people often have the wrong ideas going in. For one, they believe that their uplines will do all the work, and make them rich. Let's look at why you have to let go of this preconceived notion if you want to get anywhere in MLM.
Your Business is You
While this should go without saying, it sometimes doesn’t, so we’ll say it anyway: You’re the only one who cares about your business. Sure, your family is probably emotionally invested, and your partners might even care a little bit. But ultimately, they’re in it for themselves, just like you’re in it for you. Since this is the case, you better bet your upline isn’t doing the work to help make you rich; they’re doing it for themselves, and they’ll use every trick of marketing in the book to make sure they’re the ones who reap most of the benefits from their work. This is only fair, and it also means you can’t rely on them to bring you success. So don’t – that’s not how the business works.
The Income Fades
The further down the ladder you are, the less and less trickles down to you. In theory, sales made upstream do contribute to your paycheck. But, in practice, unless hundreds of thousands of sales are being made upstream, chances are good you’re not going to be making anywhere close to hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is where you come in. If you want to make real money, you have to do real work. The big bucks only come when you buckle down and bring them in yourself. Think of your upstream as a boost, not a source – you’re the source.
Even if your upstream did do all the work, and do it well, and provide you with a great income, there’s little chance they’d always do that for you. Thus, in the long-term, you’d be cheating yourself, since you’d be losing all the income that they provided you. This is why you’ev got to do the work yourself if you want to ensure any sort of income stability. You can never count on others to do much of anything, let alone make you money. So get on it yourself – that way, you’ll make big, consistent money.
