Why Positive Associations Are Important For Your Success

All of us are aware of the major factors required to be successful in life. You have to be good at planning, always work hard, and be consistent with your approach. These are the three most emphasized upon factors in all the books and audio tapes you can learn when it comes to success. However, there is another factor that is pivotal to your success as well, and that factor is the company you keep.

As your family has an impact on your upbringing, how you show up in life or how you will work your business will reflect that. Therefore, it is very important that this impact be positive, as it leads to a success in personal and professional life. I’ll be sharing with you the importance of having positive associations in your life, and how you need to change and manage it in order to ensure positive influence.

Why Positive Associations Are Important For Your Success

We Need Positive Influences In Our Life

The fact that man is a social animal is a justification enough to prove the fact that having people around is the primal need of us humans. A child needs a parent to look towards in times of needs, an adult needs a partner to share joys and sorrows, and a person needs friends to tell all the secrets and get their advice. As an entrepreneur, if you are around people who keep you from giving time to your business, don’t have any idea about business, and practically have nothing to give you in value that can help you become successful, then as sad and as painful it is the fact is that you may be hanging out with the wrong people. On the contrary, if you are around people who own successful businesses, then you definitely will benefit from them, as they will influence the way you think and strategize about your business. Therefore, always try to sit in the company of people who share something common with you.

The People You Should Hang-out With

It goes without saying that birds of feather flock together. Therefore, if you are a businessperson then sitting with young boys who have nothing on their mind but partying, it would not be a wise choice for your growth and development. Similarly, if you are a budding entrepreneur and you start sitting with friends who have nothing else to do then to sit on the couch and play games, then again, you are around the wrong people. There are three types of traits you must see in the people you hang out with:

  • Firstly, in your bunch, there must always be a person who is more experienced and successful than you are so that you can learn from him or her.
  • The second type of group you should hang out with is the group that consists of people who are the same as you in terms of success and experience, so that you could share ideas and benefit each other.
  • The last type of gathering you must have is of people who are aspirants and want to achieve something in life. You can be their mentor and guide them to success, which will keep you energized and give you a sense of achievement.
5 Success Traits That Every Entrepreneur Must Have

On the bases of these three traits, you need to make a list of makers and breakers. On one side of the line, write down the names of all the people around you who have contributed to your success and the company of which keeps you motivated towards your goals. On the other side of the line write the names of those people sitting with whom makes you feel dull, boring and makes you look on the pessimistic side of things. The latter are the ones that you need to quit hanging out with and spend more time with people from the other side of the list who give you purpose and keep you motivated.

Now it’s Your Turn!

    Hi Nate,

This is a master-piece content, and I’m glad to probably be the first person to read and make comment.

I was reading Jack Canfields book on the principles of success and part of what he was discussing in the book resonates very well with the listed points above.

Virtually all successful people that I know has one mentor or the other, having a mentor makes the journey very easy for one. Mentors bring about positive influences on our life.

Under the people you should hang out, I’m particularly impressed with the last discussion on having people that are aspiring and wants to achieve something positive in life, this help creates balance as one becomes a mentor to them likewise.

    Thanks for sharing.

      Hi James,

You’re right about having mentors. During my lifetime, I’ve had many mentors. Some, I know personally and some I’ve never met them or shook their hand. I would say most of them do not know that I exist. Who you associate yourself with is who you become. Thank you for the comments!

    Thanks Nate,
Good content here. As is said, your income can be determined from the group you associate with consistently… and so can your success.
If you’re not achieving success as you desire, go find great mentors and raise your personal standards!

  3. They say your personality is the average of your closest friends (not really sure what that means) but I do think it is important to interact with people who share similar mindsets.

Unfortunately, it is not that easy to find people who are passionate about internet marketing in the real world. If none of your friends are interesting in your business perhaps it would be a good idea to make some online friends. Join some online communities that are full of like-minded people. That has helped me a lot.

    Great post.

      Hi Timothy,

The way I like to describe it, is that you are who you attract. So if you are a negative person, you attract negative people in your life. If you’re positive and happy, naturally you’ll attract people who are positive and happy. As far as people who are not passionate about internet marketing, that is true to an extent but at the same time, not everyone will be interested in Internet Marketing. That goes for any type of niches or interests. Not everyone will like the same things we do. Appreciate the comments!

    Great content.

This reminds me of King David’s Psalm 1:
    Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers…

    Thanks.

      Hi Barbara,

One of my favorite verses from the bible. Thank you for sharing that!

    Hi Nate,

Thanks for sharing this and you are right about choosing who you hang out with. We ultimately are for the most part influenced by our surroundings even if it is not a lot it can change our thinking. If you are always surrounded by others who lack motivation then there is a good chance your way of thinking will be similar.

  6. Joyce says:

Absolutely! I have found that I learn almost as much, if not more, from helping others at my level or slightly behind as I do from the people who are above me. And it’s a great way to contribute to the community, too. A win all around. Great message!

  7. Judy Garey says:

I agree Nate. It’s really important to be aware of how the influence of those around us is affecting us. I choose to surround myself with positive, supporting leaders.

    • Nate Leung says:

      Hi Judy,

In addition to what you said, also be aware of what is going in your ears as well. I tend to stay away from negative people because it can get into my subconscious mind. Thanks Judy!

  10. What a great piece! I think everyone should read this especially those in college. I soak up people emotions and energy so I learned long ago to cut the toxic people out of my life. I need to look for more experienced people to socialize with, thanks for the reminder.

  11. You make some very good points. As much as people influence us we also influence them. Thanks for the post.

  12. Awesome post Nate!!! Having positive associations are so important for success! Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Nate,

List each type of friend and release the old and worn out people for the new and exciting. Surround yourself with positive people; you cannot help to feed off of their energy, pick your game up and succeed fast when you release the energy vampires 😉

    Thanks for sharing!

    Great post once again Nate!

It truly is important to find more than one type of group to associate with in business. A person doesn’t need multitudes of groups, but a limited amount that each offers something different to round out your experiences.

    • Nate Leung says:

Yes, picking and choosing the ‘right’ groups that best resonates with you is the best practice! Thanks Pam!

  16. Hey Nate,

This is something that took me a while to realize. You definitely see the difference when you hang around those that have something in common with you versus those that are going in the opposite direction. It’s amazing how much you can get done and move forward when you’re hanging around those that want the same thing. The synergy that is built between all of you is priceless! This post is definitely a great reminder of who we should bring into your inner circle and focus on.

  17. Esha says:

That’s a great write up Nate! I agree positive people bring positive energy! 🙂

  18. I like the way you broke this down for people to be around. At one point I found myself in a situation where I was next to negative people that I had not choice but to be around. It is so easy to get caught up in the downward spiral of allowing other people to bring you down. I kept on working on myself and the statements and comments that I would say during a conversation. It took a couple of months, but now this person has gotten a lot better about negative talk and she is now starting to catch herself when she starts to talk negative. By taking on the role of being a mentor to help change a person also helped in changing me.
