3 Ways To Overcome Rejection In Your MLM business

Overcoming rejection in your MLM business is something that most brand new Network Marketers need to learn how to overcome.  Without a shadow of doubt, Network Marketing can be one of the most exciting, fun and rewarding businesses out there.  Behind every successful Network Marketer, there were struggles and failures.  Most Network Marketers are faced with certain challenges while growing their Network Marketing business.  Even today's top income earners face rejection, and get shot down.  Here are three ways to overcome rejection in your MLM business:

1.  Family and friends.

As an excited and enthused distributor, this usually takes place when they first start their business.  Generally, most new Network Marketers are so excited about what they are involved in, and that they want to tell the whole world about this awesome new revolutionary opportunity that will change their lives forever.  Unfortunately, it's usually it is the people closest to you, friends and family, who do not exactly see the opportunity the same way you do. They are skeptical and want to make sure you are safe, and often times misunderstood and is perceived as rejection.

If you have experienced this in your network marketing career, I have some good news for you and that are not alone and it’s not your fault. In most cases, it comes down to lack of training before you approach your warm market.

The best way to approach your warm market is to let them be aware of what you are doing, just as you would if you got a new job, and that you are positioning yourself to be successful.  Send them some samples or some information on the product.

Tip: Ask them if they know anyone anyone that is open to a side project, if it didn't interfere with their current schedule.

If they come across anyone who is looking for a career change, new opportunity or to make extra income on side to have them put you in touch with them. This is the best way to avoid rejection and turn potential adversaries into allies, and to overcome rejection in your MLM business.

2.  Do not take rejection personally.

People that you are going to share the opportunity with may have a timing issue, and that the timing isn’t right in those people’s lives.  If they tell you “no”, what they are really telling is, “Not right now.”‘ Remember that your only job is to invite people and ask them to take a look at your opportunity, and this is one of the first ways you can overcome rejection in your MLM business.

Tip: Do not get attached to the results. Just focus on delivering the information and inviting people to take a look at your business without the need to have a specific result of them joining you. This way, you perceive this view as a way to overcome rejection in your MLM business.

If you are finding this to be a challenge that is stopping you from progressing forward in your business, then here is a tip that could help you out. One that I learned a while ago, and continue to use today to overcome rejection in your MLM business.  There are millions of people in the world to talk to, and do not get attached to the results, instead focus on delivering the information and inviting people to take a look at your business without the need to have a specific result of them joining you.

You need to learn how to have an abundance mentality, and know there are unlimited amounts of people that need what you have!  If you set the proper conditions in your mind, you will overcome rejection in your MLM business, at any given time!

Try to get 50 “no's” in a day and see what happens.  If you are truly going out and building a business, it's merely impossible to get 50 no's.  The question you have to ask yourself.  If you exposed your opportunity to 50 people, and 49 said no, and 1 said yes, would that be worth it to you?

According to network marketing legend, Jim Rohn, the Law of Averages says that if you do something often enough a ratio will begin to appear.  If you talk to 10 people and 1 says yes, a ratio will begin to appear; you are at 1:10.  You’ll notice that once it starts, it tends to continue.   If you talk to 10 you’ll get 1.  Talk to 10 more, get 1.  This is an awesome way to overcome rejection in your MLM business.

3.  Turn rejection into positive motivation.

Learning how to manage your feelings is critical to dealing with rejection, especially when the feelings are related to your self worth, and your self esteem. When you reject yourself or feel the pain of being rejected by another, you need to know how to turn the feelings of rejection into validation, positive self regard, and motivation towards success.

In order to manage your emotions effectively, you must understand what triggers your emotions. You must be able to feel, experience, and express feelings which are both desirable and undesirable. You must allow your feelings, sort them out, and then turn them into productive allies so that they work for you not against you.  It's generally a good idea to write down goals, and understand why you are doing this business.

Tip: Define and develop your ‘why'. Use this as motivation to build your business. If your ‘why' is strong enough, you will be able to persevere and overcome rejection in your MLM business.

Hope these 3 ways to overcome rejection in your MLM business gives you a better idea on how to deal with them and the emotions that comes with them.  Now, it's your turn!  What things have you done to overcome rejection in your MLM Network Marketing business?  I look forward to reading your comments!

I think rejection from your family is typically the hardest pill to swallow. It’s easy to have a stranger tell you NO and laugh at you, but when it is your brother, father or mother laughing, that is whole other matter. Ultimately, you can let it paralyze you or you can let it motivate you. It comes down to how bad do you want it.

    Great post and great blog.

I really enjoyed your comments about how to handle rejection! In any profession that can be a challenge, but in MLM it is especially challenging. Your idea of creating a ratio to help you monitor results is a great way to look at the process! Thanks for sharing some suggestions that can help and inspire people in the process of building their businesses.

    Hey Edwin!

Thanks for stopping by, it’s always nice to see a new visitor.

Rejection isn’t something that most people like to face. It’s one of the major reasons why it holds people back from building a successful business. Years ago, I realized that when people “rejected” me, I figured out most of the time, that it’s either one of few things.

    1) Timing issue – Not be the right time in their life
    2) They don’t understand the value behind in owning a legitimate business opportunity.

Glad to have you here on my site, hope to see you again soon. Have a great week ahead. 🙂

You feel a lot of rejection when you are getting started. It’s so important to stay positive, focused, and learn from every no.

    Hey Andrea,

Yes, having an abundant mindset is also important to have. When you know there’s 8 billion people on the planet, there’s always more people to talk to. 😉
