10 Tips On How To Brand Yourself Online

Branding yourself will help you succeed in any niche or business. Have you ever thought about branding yourself?  When people check you out on your website, you will be building an instant rapport with them.

Remember, when it comes to branding yourself, people will only do business who they know, like and trust. They don't really care about what you are promoting or offering, they want to know how you can help them.

The MLM and Network Marketing profession is built on trust and people need to understand that building rapport is very crucial. The ‘Branding Yourself' concept also holds true for any type of business or ‘niche'. I'm going to break down ‘Branding yourself' into 10 separate parts.

1.  Branding Yourself Online.

First, a concise explanation on branding yourself.
Branding Yourself Defined:

“Entire process involved in creating a unique name and image for a product (good or service) in the consumers' mind, through advertising campaigns with a consistent theme. Branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers”

10 tips on how to brand yourself onlineTake the opportunity to consider this definition of branding yourself carefully – branding yourself has the essence of why and how to brand yourself.  This is what makes branding yourself so critical when it comes to MLM.

2.  The significance of branding yourself in MLM.

You must understand the concepts of branding yourself. When it comes to branding yourself as a leader, you will be looked upon as someone who can provide something unique to your prospects and customers. The key here is to offer value… LOTS of value! The more you offer in value, the more people will listen to what you have and will start to follow you.

Why should anyone lock arms with you, instead of another sponsor, team or company? You must have a smoking hot answer to that question.  If you want to set yourself apart from the countless other sponsors, teams and companies out there, you have to be different and unique.

Branding yourself as a leader, trainer, networker and team builder to weather this particular storm should it ever come your way. Your brand (often referred to as ‘You Inc') gives you an autonomous structure independent of any organization you might work with, which may be plugged into a new company at a moments notice, and allows for additional affiliate or any other marketing outside your primary business.

Branding yourself should inspire confidence, trust and positivity, and be combined with effective marketing to build an environment for people to know, like, and trust you. This model will lead people to opt-in to your list, click on your emails, follow up your offers and ultimately, join your team or do business with you.

3.  Branding yourself by selecting a brand name.

Generally, the best name to use to brand yourself in MLM is your own name. If you do not want to do this, brainstorm to cultivate your brand name. Michael Jordan's ‘Air Jordan' is an illustration of this, which although associated with Michael, is a very strong basketball brand which now operates independently of him.

4.  Branding yourself by selecting a niche.

You must know clearly what your brand values and purpose will be in order to brand yourself effectively. What are you selling? What are promoting? Who do you want to reach? What is your target market's needs, wants and desire? Answering these kinds of questions will help you identify your niche. A broad niche such as ‘MLM' will be more challenging to target than a more focused one such as ‘MLM Lead Generation' or ‘Social Media Marketing'

5.  Branding yourself by purchasing a domain name.

Having a domain name that incorporates either your personal name or even the name of the brand is very powerful. If you aren't making use of your own name as your brand name, it's worth taking into consideration the keyword content of the brand and domain name. Using a domain name which features keywords you're trying to rank for will help you rank effectively. Check out, GoDaddy.com for domain name availability by clicking here.

After you purchase your domain name, you will want to host your domain name by setting your own site.  I highly recommend using your personal, first and last name.  It will brand you as a leader in your particular industry.  I highly recommend, Liquid Web.  Very reliable and also very stable.  You check check them out by clicking here.

6. Branding yourself by showing your face.

Studies have shown that a face – especially a smiling face helps to develop trust in a brand. Since you are wanting to brand yourself as a leader, it's a good idea to use your own face as the face of your brand. Use the same image or set of images for each profile, banner or header – this consistency makes instant brand recognition even easier and gives a sense of consistency

7. Branding yourself by being different and unique.

Why does your target market need to know that is so special about you?  Do you have some experience that makes what you have to offer stand out from all the rest? Are you creative, do you have strong leadership skills?  Do you have a  good insight about people and the way they work? Do you possess a boat loads of pure passion and drive to succeed and help others?  Perhaps you bring fresh content and inside direct knowledge of what it's like to be a beginner and the courage and effort it takes to navigate those first steps on the path?

8. Branding yourself by sharing your story.

If you can become a good story tell more than half your battles are done.  Remember, how you want your target market to know, like and trust you?  The key is to sharing a story that your target market can relate too.  Be sure to include your story into your Bio or About pages.  Ensure there's a story which people can relate with or be inspired by (or both). Make use of your story to brand yourself by displaying your value, experience, humanity, individuality and to stimulate emotional connection with those who read it.

9. Branding yourself by being everywhere – Massive exposure in the social media world.

Make sure your brand is featured across a wide selection of different social media platforms, especially those which are relevant to your profession. Always use your brand name as your profile name. Facebook and Youtube are essential, some other good ones are Better Networker (MLM and Internet Marketing), LinkedIn (Business Networking), Digg (Content Sharing) but there's many. Don't be limited, and do participate intelligently in the forums and sites you choose to join.

The more various ways you present your brand, the greater individuals will absorb your brand identity. Written articles, Videos, and Audio recordings would be the most obvious mediums to utilize online.

10. Branding yourself by utilizing frequency and repetition.

Rinse and Repeat. Put your brand in more places. Get your message seem by as many people as possible.

Make certain, they are going to see it over and over. Don't be greedy, share your content. Participate in internet forums that has to do with your business or ‘niche'. Network actively on social media sites. People generally need to see your brand several times before they start to notice it, though the process is quicker if they see it in several different places.

Now Just Do It! (As a famous brand once said). Look at ways to capitalize on the unique elements you have to offer. Bring your special skills, talents and perspective in line with the needs, wants and desires of your clearly defined target market. Be creative. Think outside the box. Brand yourself.

Now it's your turn!

    Great tips,
Thank you for sharing. My biggest question is whether to attempt to keep my Facebook business page (with nearly no exposure but the ability to access more people- also share on my personal wall) or delete that and post strictly on my personal wall keeping every thing public?
    Thanks,
    Farah

Wonderful ideas, Nate, for branding yourself. It’s important to distinguish yourself from the masses, especially in the MLM industry. Get your name out there, get your name out there, and get your name out there! But make sure there’s quality and value behind that name. Be real, be unique, be someone you’d like to follow.. Awesome

    Hey Nate,

This is a nice set of tips on branding yourself online. The one that really resonated with me was number 8 on sharing your story. Yes it’s great to share tools and strategies, but I believe if you want to really connect with people and have them remember you, then sharing your story is definitely a great way. It goes back to the old cliche that people do business with people and not companies. When you can actually tell your stories that people can relate to, then this will definitely propel your brand online and you will attract more people who you have a lot in common with. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Sherman,

As the saying goes, “Facts tell, stories sell”. This is where the rubber meets the road. This is what separate those who are trying to sell versus someone trying to help someone out by sharing results from other people. Great feedback Sherman!

You nailed it. I have been branding myself for the past 3 years as the Skyping Reading Tutor, and I keep branding myself. It never stops. I have a blog, domain name, and I have also taken my actual name as well so people can learn all about me. Thanks for reminding me of the importance to continue to do this.
